STATION It’s an iconic building of Melbourne, very touristy, but not my fave. In fact I was never really look at the building as a design, just because it is very functional. It is a transit place, to people to go home or go to work. Everyone short of in a rush. When I look and research, it is quite interesting. It has historical, architectural, and socially significant to Melbourne growth. The History : • It was a result of a worldwide competition in 1902, won by James Fawcett and HPC Ashworth. Built from 1905-1910. • Supposed to have a green flowing roof to that side, but was not built because of the cost. • It was the busiest station in the world at the time, even more busy than French Station and US Grand Central Station. • It wasn’t only a station, but also a jogging place on the roof, ballroom ( which is still there but not used and not accessible) and nursery, offices, for the staff of the Victorian Railway Institute. • The function totally change, hand in hand with the social life of Melbourne • 1983, Big Renovation. Causing the interior to be modernized and have like commercial modern shopping center. Which is ashamed, because they could’ve kept the characteristic. Wonder how would it fit in now with all the modern building surrounding it. The Architectural • Yellow Grand building that stretching so long for more than one block. • It is formed by straight line running on the long side. Really long line. Even when windows were placed, the line doesn’t disappear but come in the arch and continue. To the arch as well, the line going inwards. • Influenced by French Renaissance, but in a free manner. • It has French Renaissance characteristics with symmetrical composition, Giant Pillar, Rustication Arch, Broad Arch, Dome. • But also have Art Nouveau decoration on the internal • And something that is popular in Melbourne at the time which is the brick, golden cream and red. • Doesn’t really categorized something, because have a range of style. Also like Melbourne Architecture in general, where it is combination of a lot of architectural style. “Fruit Salad”. It’s a tourism place, iconic building, transit and commute place, meeting point.

BUS SHELTER
FOOTSCRAY STATION BUS SHELTER
-NO DIRECTION -
THE CONCEPT OF THE BUS SHELTER OUTSIDE FOOTSCARY STATION IS LOST IN DIRECTION. SEEN FROM THE INVENTORY PHOTOS, THE AREA HAS A LOT OF SIGNS AND DIRECTION THAT HELP PEOPLE AND COMMUTER TO GO FASTER FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER. BUT THIS ALSO MEAN PEOPLE WILL NOT EXPLORE THE BUILDING OR SURROUNDING, JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY SETTING THEIR MIND TO THE DESTINATION PLACE. THE DESIGNER TRYING TO DESIGN THE OPPOSITE OF IT ON THIS SHELTER BY CREATING SECLUDED SEATING AREA ON BOTH SIDE. PRIVATE SEATING AREA THAT DIDI VIDED BY PARTITION, ALLOWING PEOPLE TO EXPLORE THE SHELTER BY THEIR OWN TO FIND A SEAT OR TO FIND A MEETING POINT, WITHOUT CLEAR VISIBLE OF WHAT OR WHO THEY EXPECT TO SEE. .

RICHMOND STATION BUS SHELTER -ART TUNNEL-
LOCATED NEAR RICHMOND STATION AND OPPOSITE BRIDGE, MAKING THE SITE A BUSY STREET WITH BUSY TRAFFIC. THE DESIGN IDEA COME FROM THE TUNNEL UNDER THE BRIDGE, COMBINED WITH THE ADVERTISMENT POSTER AND BILLBOARD AROUND THE AREA (AND INSIDE THE TUNNEL). TO REFLECT BACK ON THE SURROUDING ENVIRONMENT, THE BILLBOARD AND AD ALSO CAN BE DISPLAYED IN THE GLASS PANEL ON THE SHELTER. THE ROUND SHAPE INSPIRED FROM ROUND ARAR CHADE HALLWAY NEAR MELBOURNE CITY HALL. THE DESIGN ALSO WORK WELL WITH THE BUSY STREET,BY HAVING ENCLOSED BUS SHELTER, PEOPLE WHOM WAITING FOR THE BUS WILL BE PROTECTED FROM WIND, RAIN AND ALSO SAFER TO BE IN WHILE WAIING FOR THE BUS.

-LIGHT BOX-
ONE OF THE EXHIBITION HELD IN NGV WHICH WAS ‘PEOPLE OF THE PACIFIC’ BY GREG SEMU, INSPIRED THE DESIGN OF THE BUS SHELTER LOCATED INFRONT OF NGV. THE IDEA IS A LIGHT BOX WITH COLORFULL PIXEL INSIDE WITH DIFFERENT DEPTH FUNCTIONED AS SEATING AREA. THE COLOUR SWATCHES COME FROM THE PIXELATED COLOUR IN “FAKE FOOD” EXHIBITION. THE PIXEL COLOUR CUBES ARE FUNCTIONED AS SEATING AREA WITH LIGHT HIDDEN INSIDE. THE BRIGHT COLOUR AND DECORATED WITH A LOT OF LIGHT, MAKING THE BUS SHELTER EASY TO SPOT.

MUSIC PAVILION
In fear every day, every evening He calls her aloud from above Carefully watched for a reason Painstaking devotion and love Surrendered to self preservation From others who care for themselves A blindness that touches perfection But hurts just like anything else Isolation, isolation, isolation Mother I tried please believe me I'm doing the best that I can I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through I'm ashamed of the person I am Isolation, isolation, isolation But if you could just see the beauty These things I could never describe These pleasures a wayward distraction This is my one lucky prize
THE PAVILLION INSPIRED BY THE BAND JOY DIVISION ALBUM COVER (PICTURED),COMBINED WITH THE TRACK ISOLATION. THE ALBUM COVER TAKEN FROM A FIGURE IN THE CAMBRIDGE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ASTRONOMY (1977 EDITION) - A STACKED PLOT OF RADIO SIGNALS FROM A PULSAR. THE DESIGN IS TO USED THE 3D FORM OF THE PULSAR FREQUENCY, AND FUNCTIONED IT AS A CEILING AND AN UNDERGROUND FLOOR BASE. VISITOR CAN SEE THRU THE PULSAR FORM THAT IS UNDERGROUND, AND WALK ON THE GLASS FLOOR, HENCE THE ISOLATION FEELING. THE DESIGN IS A CONCRETE BOX, THAT REPRESENT THE FEELING OF ISOLATION OR TRAPPED. WHILE SOMETIMES ISOLATION IS A TORTURE IT CAN ALSO BE A PLEASURE. EVEN AS YOU SEARCH FOR PEOPLE AND COMPANY, NOTHING TO COMPARE THE OF BEING YOURSELF OR ISOLATEDE. THE TWO 3D PULSAR FORM ARE ALSO EMPHASIZE THE FEELING OF ISOLATION FOR VISITOR STANDING UNDERNEATH IT.
