Natural Things To Do The Beaches North Beach is home to the lighthouse and is ideal for watching international cargo ships on their way to the Port of Savannah. South Beach is where you’ll find surfers, the Pier & Pavilion, restaurants, bars and shops. And there are miles of accessible beaches in-between. North Beach Bird Sanctuary Tybee is one of the best places in Georgia to bird-watch. And the kinds of birds change with the tides. From Black Skimmers and Brown Pelicans to Red-throated Loons and Buffleheads, you’ll be amazed. You may even spot Tybee’s official bird, the Painted Bunting. Little Tybee Island Accessible only by boat or kayak, this pristine, uninhabited nature preserve is home to an endless, unspoiled beach of driftwood, native shells and crabs.
