There’s Always Something Happening On Tybee! Spring Events March 13, 2010 - Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade The parade will assemble at Memorial Park, proceed down Butler Avenue, take a left on Tybrisa Street, and end on the Strand. This Irish Parade began seven years ago under the guidance of Jimmy and Jay Burke. It gives all the Irish a chance to celebrate their Irish Heritage. Since it began, it has become a tradition that seems to grow bigger every year. There will be lots of Irish families marching, along with bands, bagpipers, floats, and the Alee Temple Shriners. You are invited to join in this Irish Celebration, Tybee style. March 18, 2010 - Third Thursdays on Tybee This is the second of three Third Thursdays on Tybee where you get to take in musical talent outdoors while experiencing the variety of shops, restaurants and island culture. Take pleasure in hearing nationally known contemporary folk artist, Lauren Lapointe. 5pm - 6pm - The lot at Tybee Oaks. March 31, 2010 - “The Last Song” Movie Release “The Last Song” is based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks and was filmed on Tybee during the Summer of 2009. It will be released in theaters in the U.S. on March 31, 2010. April 9 - 11, 2010 - Tybee Seafood Festival Tybee’s premiere annual carnival and “culinary” event! Wrapped in old-fashioned, beach-side atmosphere this family-friendly festival features exciting live entertainment with special guest performers, carnival rides and other attractions, and the most mouth-watering seafood on the southeast coast! The carnival will open to the public on Thursday at Ocean Plaza parking lot, and remain open over the weekend – Saturday’s “seafood review” on Tybee’s Pier and Pavilion features delicious catch-of-the-day favorites prepared by the island’s finest restaurants and caterers and live performances of some of the regions best musical artists.www.tybeeseafoodfest.com April 15, 2010 - Third Thursdays on Tybee Teenager Lacey Caldwell will charm those strolling around Tybrisa and The Strand with her award winning vocals! 5 - 6pm - Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout April 17, 2010 - Tybee Island Wine Festival 3pm - 7pm on the Lighthouse Grounds - Bring your beach chairs and friends for an enjoyable Spring afternoon at the Tybee Lighthouse tasting 100 plus wines from around the world, plus Craft Beers. Watch the teams arrive on the beach! www.tybee500.com May 21, 2010 - Tybee Island Beach Bum Parade The Beach Bum Parade might surprise the unsuspecting visitor. Like most parades, there are floats pulled behind cars and trucks. Unlike most parades, however, the floats, often trailers or boats, are filled with water-throwing paraphernalia. Spectators, lined up along the parade route on Butler Avenue, armed with buckets, squirt guns and hoses. What results is an all-out water war for fun loving beach bums of all ages.
