With my wife Katie, I manage the Farm’s 475 PB Charolais operation and its new 100 head commercial division. We strive to access the best genetics and to select the cattle that work within our environment and management expectations. This year we celebrate our 44th year raising and selling Charolais genetics. Here is a showcase of the animals we offer at 3rd Piece of the Program Sale December 12, 2018 held on the farm! We are again extremely proud to offer an elite group of females in this Piece the Program sale. The front pasture cows are leading representatives of our senior herd sires. These cows are bred to industry leading genetics and will sell beside their last year's heifer calves. Our bred heifers will calve and then raise market demanding calves to give buyers that initial investment. All of our bred heifers in the sale are synced and exposed to our consistent predicable calving ease sire – Pro-Char Winchester 6D. Take a look at the Winchester heifer calf on offer and makes sure to tour the Steppler Bull Pen on sale day to witness the large Winchester sire group. This highly marketable sire group will be on demand March 10th. To round out the sale, we offer fancy, sweet fronted, deep chested show heifers. We have always been a huge supporter of the youth in this great industry. These heifers are quiet and will make excellent 4H and youth heifer projects. Check out our Junior Program on page 3! March 10, 2019 also marks Steppler Farms 8th Annual Bull sale. We will offer 100 Steppler bred and raised Charolais bulls, making our sale one of the largest Charolais bull sales in Canada. We choose these 100 bulls from our 475 females so we are selective, only using bulls that meet the strictest of criteria. To meet the different industry needs, we offer for sale high calving ease oriented bulls as well as higher performance, scale pushing herd sires. Finally with so many bulls to select from, we are able to hold over a tremendous set of bulls to satisfy our two year old market; in addition, we have bulls to back up our buyers through our Breeder Warranty and Herd Bull Guarantee. The name of this sale is what it’s all about. Steppler Farms really are sharing “A Piece of The Program” with you. They have taken a cross section of pedigrees from the top end of the program to show what their cowherd is all about. This is a piece of the 475 head cowherd that produce the 100 bulls they sell every year and they want you to see what is producing those great herd sires. This operation has spared no expense in buying the best herd bulls available and for many of them this is the only place you can buy those genetics. They have also added some top AI services to compliment and compare what they are doing with the industry. Juniors, check out their revised program for you. It is the best in the industry and they will also help those who want to leave the heifers there until the CCYA Conference and Show, in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, next summer. Steppler Farms will assist with delivery to central points in Canada to a maximum of 300 km at a cost of $75 per animal. Delivery is at the seller’s convenience but will be as soon as practical. Extra costs are to the account of the purchaser. All risk is assumed by the buyer.

Junior Program We understand the importance of the Juniors in our breed and we are always looking for ways to give back. This year we are offering a $500 sale credit to all juniors attending our sale on the 12th. One credit per junior (4-H or CCYA member), one credit per animal and must be transferred to the Junior. Juniors that aren't able to make the sale, stop by our stall at Agribition and enter your name into a draw for a $500 sale credit. Draw will be made a few days prior to the sale.
Export Costs Export tests and paperwork will be done by Steppler Farms but all costs will be the buyer’s. Steppler Farms will deliver the purchases to the U.S. border upon completion of documentation.

We purchased Winchester out of the Pro-Char Johnston sale this past spring, to add to our heifer bull battery. When breeding 150 plus heifers each year, we are constantly looking for that calving ease sire that can help us develop our heifers into functional mature cows. By teaming up with Beck Farms, Lang SK, we were able to purchase this breed leader who ended up as the highest selling bull in Canada that year. Braxton is one of the most impressive bulls that we have ever had walking at Steppler Farms. Braxton is so fluid in his stride; he is quiet, deep chested, huge hipped, with perfect structure, and he comes from a tremendous cow. The calving ease in this sire is second to none. The calves have a tremendous amount of vigour at birth and never look back. As bred heifers, the Braxton females, are developing perfectly. We purchased JWX Burnin it Down 613B as the high selling bull out of the 2015 Wilgenbusch bull sale. We were looking for an outcross pedigree that would add length and performance. Burnin It Down has done exactly what we wanted him to do and more. 613B continues to dominate in the breed for performance. He is in the top 1% of the breed for weaning and yearling, making him one of your performance sire options. The first set of Burnin it Down females are truly impressive. They have the sound udder structure, perfect level of milking ability and they are fertile.
We purchased Seminole 927W as a yearling out of Sparrow Farms 2009 bull sale because we were impressed by the bull’s tremendous thickness, length of spine and depth of rib. In addition, Seminole is correct in every way and is perfectly footed with lots of hair and excellent testicle development. With Seminole, we won 2010 Supreme Champion Bull at MLE in 2010 as well as winning Grand Champion Charolais bull the same year. We used Seminole heavily in our breeding program and he now has a spot as the cornerstone sire at Steppler Farms. The Seminole females are simply awesome, with excellent udders and ample milk. Seminole’s Australian semen rights were sold to Bauhinia Park Charolais with great results! “The Seminole progeny look great over here, he has stamped them with length, depth and plenty of strength. When we toured the HTA 2017 bull pen we found Contender. His length of spine, big rib, huge top and hair really impressed us. Then we toured the cows and his dam, grand dam, and great grand dam where all still actively producing! They were all sounded footed and had a great udder structure. Contender has been a great addition to our bull battery. Outcross pedigree, consistent calving, and the added performance. When touring through our 2019 bull pen, you will notice the stamp that Contender has put into his offspring. Long spined, correct structure and the Contender hip.

We purchased Copenhagen 210Z from the Sparrow’s 2013 Bull Sale. Copenhagen’s depth of quarter, curly hair and his excellent foot led us to buy our first horned bull in a very long time. Looking back, what an excellent decision to have made. Copenhagen’s first calves are all stamped with his depth of quarter and full hair coat and they are as correct as they come. The Copenhagen heifer calves were the first to cycle in our replacement pen and our 2014 show heifers were Copenhagen daughters. The Copenhagen daughters are simply awesome. Lots of milk and beautiful udders. Copenhagen’s mother and grandmother are two of the best uddered females I have ever seen.
Jacksonville is our calving ease specialist. We have now calved over 300 females bred to Jacksonville with little to no trouble. He has a negative BW EPD of -2.5 and calving ease EPD of 8. Other than Jacksonville’s ability to calve, his females are his next strongest trait. Jacksonville females are so versatile. They are correct, perfect footed and low maintenance udder types.

We added two bulls from the Horseshoe E program to ensure consistency in calving ease. LAE Cruise 502C and LAE Canadiana 561C fit the bill. These bulls are smooth fronted, small headed, and have a balanced muscle structure – all things I look for first when selecting a heifer bull. Both bulls are quiet and have awesome mother cows. LAE Cruise was shown beside his mother at Agribition.

Braxton embryos out of our 2014 show female Steppler Miss 104A. 104A has been successfully shown as a bred, winning Reserve National Champion Female. 104A was sold through the Agribition sale, topping it at $18,000, to Dale and Natalie McKay of Brandon, MB. 104A and her Blue Value bull calf, Steppler Blue Print 64C, were brought back again and won the Grand Champion Charolais Female at the Brandon Ag-Ex in 2015. Steppler Blue Print 64C sold through our bull sale and topped the sale selling to Turnbull Charolais, Pincher Creek, AB. 104A has continued to develop into a front pasture broad cow. Huge rib, excellent udder and awesome feet and structure. These type of females are herd bull makers! Crossed with Braxton! Herd Health
Production and efficiencies are very important on our farm. We have a short, intensive breeding program. All females are AI bred for efficiencies and calculated matings. We try to get 95% of the cows exposed in the first cycle with a 70- 75% conception rate. Correct, accurate nutrition, high quality semen, and time invested in heat detection and inseminating are the keys to achieving this target. Once the cows go through the 28 day AI program, the herdbulls go to work. Since most of the cows have conceived already, the herdbulls finish the job. The mature bulls easily travel throughout the last 32 days of the breeding program. All females are pregnancy checked early in the summer and culls and opens are taken out. We maintain a high and rigorous herd health regime as outlined below. This enables us to have a successful breeding program and ensures potential buyers of the high health standards of these sale cattle.

Terms & Conditions Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Breeder Guarantee – Females: As per the Canadian Charolais Association Code of Ethics. Copies are available at the settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at any time. Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied.
