Over time, pdt’s designs have become the commercial, cultural and public buildings we recognise as state landmarks today, forming a rich visual representation of Queensland’s history. Today, the pdt team works on projects of all sizes providing designs for master planned developments through to small community projects. Regardless of the size or scope of the project, we continue to offer a personal and dedicated service. We believe that upholding strong design principles, instigating a collaborative working process and building solid

relationships with our clients is as important to today as it was 75 years ago. So although our designs continue to evolve and our technology has advanced, the principles of our practice remain at the heart of every project we work on. pdt remains one of the largest architecture practices in Queensland offering a cohesive service encompassing architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and master planning and urban design.

gold coast university hospital With a total floor area of 175,000m2, the hospital establishes a new benchmark for the delivery of health care facilities in Queensland and Australia. It is one of the first fully integrated urban design, landscape and architecture health projects to incorporate a precinct strategy. Consideration for patients and staff has been applied throughout the design process resulting in an award-winning facility based on evidence-based design. Use of carefully planned courtyards and landscaping provide valuable break out spaces for patients and visitors while the atrium space of the main entrance and use of public art works help to create a welcoming and less clinical introduction to the hospital. New facilities include state of the art clinical services, teaching facilities, intensive care and surgical services, a pathology and education building, mental health unit and comprehensive cancer care centre. st andrew’s war memorial hospital “St Andrew’s Hospital engaged pdt as the architects for the recent redevelopment of its hospital. This was a challenging project requiring replacement of the oldest parts of the hospital, integration of new buildings to several existing ones and all done in a way that meant the hospital could remain open for business. Adding to the challenge, the hospital occupies all of its city block leaving no ready free space, there is significant slope on the rocky site and all of the buildings being retained are of different ages and styles. pdt took this challenging scenario, and a fairly tight budget, and designed a new clinical services block that now forms the heart of our hospital.” Dr. Ian England, General Manager, St Andrew’s Private Hospital In association with Silver Thomas Hanley Architects
