Newhaven & District Railway Club Article Plastic Free Peacehaven Article

“Model Railways?“ I hear you say, “Surely that’s only for old folks in anoraks!”

NOT SO! The local branch for readers of this magazine is the ‘Newhaven & District Model Railway Club’. The range of activities and interests we offer is more interesting than you think. Yes, most of us can legally have a pint, but Model Railway Clubs across the country for all ages and diversities, offer opportunities to improve or learn from scratch many great skill-sets. These include, but are not limited to, running locos and rolling stock, creating and enhancing scenery, buildings etc, teamwork on project construction, understanding and installing electric power for layouts, painting/airbrushing, track laying and much, much more.

All this in a genuinely friendly, helpful, safe environment. We are a registered Charity, compliant with all the current necessary legislation, and are looking to enhance our role in the local community by expanding our numbers. Be part of something special, “Give it a Go!”

Plastic free Peacehaven

Plastic free communities are an accredited initiative to support surfers against sewage. The hope is to reduce the amount of single use plastic from our seas, rivers and shorelines.

It’s not about eliminating all plastics but reducing amount of avoidable single use plastic we usebottles, coffee cups and cutlery. Think how well we embraced reusing single use plastic bags, so it is possible.

To do this I am looking for help from like minded people to join my steering group. The group meets four times a year and also supports others to make simple changes. Peacehaven Town Council has already agreed to support and commit to initiatives.

Other elements are:

Local business’s to reduce using single use plastic.

Support from local communities, groups, events and schools/nurseries.
