Somehow, it is difficult not to look at a new year as a fresh start – and even more so at the beginning of a new decade! For Peach, the 2020 outlook is looking very good: we are now the only weekly publication, and we continue to be the most picked up gay magazine in metro Atlanta. This aligns perfectly with our main goal of being the biggest and best support to the Atlanta LGBTQ+ community, and I hope we can continue to build symbiotic relationships with our local businesses, organizations, and events to build valuable platforms that provide maximum exposure and lift us all up. If you have ideas for articles or content, please feel free to email me at mikkel@peachatl.com, and if you wish to advertise with us, email Jeff Anderson at jeff@peachatl.com. All the best wishes for a prosperous and wonderful 2020!

New year, New decade, New you? By Darren Floro-Bryant

It’s that time of year when everyone decides whether or not to establish resolutions. A lot of times, losing weight, getting fit, or getting more active are popular resolutions. These are great, but what do they mean, and how can you stick with them? With any of these popular New Year’s resolutions, everyone has a mental image about how they want to look, but don’t know how or if they can achieve it. We look at magazines, movies, and athletes and compare ourselves to the people in these roles and make ourselves feel bad if we don’t look like a marketed ideal. We all have good intentions when we set these resolutions, and the end goal is always a desirable result. It’s the steps involved to get to that result that are sometimes numerous and difficult. But this year is different. It’s the end of a decade. It’s the start of 2020! And as the cliché says, hindsight is 20/20. So, this is the year to take what we’ve learned or what we’ve always wanted to do and put it into practice. First and foremost, you need to be realistic and stay positive, even when the work is daunting, or the results are not as fast as you would like. While, in many cases, we live in a world of immediate gratification, not all goals work that way. Start small. Take that long-term goal and break it down into a series of smaller, more achievable benchmarks to help keep you on track and motivated. For example, instead of saying you want to lose weight, give yourself a date that you would like to lose 2 pounds by. Sit with a nutritionist or a dietician and make substitutes to your eating habits that won’t cause you stress or anxiety by changing your entire eating pattern. Once you have done this, set another similar incremental goal that allows you to make positive changes, setting you on the path that will help you achieve the image you have envisioned in your mind. This same concept can be applied to any of the resolutions stated above or that you have set out for yourself. For example, when clients come to me with new goals, this is the process I use to help them achieve their goals. 10 | follow us @peachatlmag

Rmember that some resolutions are hard to stick to because they are usually announced to friends and family. This puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on you because if you don’t achieve this resolution, you may look like a failure. To help avoid the external pressures, sometimes keeping these resolutions to yourself is a great way to make the changes at your own pace. You are in charge of you. Alternately, seeking help from friends or family or enlisting the help of professionals can increase your potential for success. They will use their experience and knowledge to help you break down your goal to help keep you motivated and positive. They will use their expertise to give you tips, tools, advice, and methods that keep you moving towards your goal. Most times, this information can be utilized to help you maintain your results and assist you in setting new goals. As a personal trainer, this is where I tailor my tips to your specific goals. Remember, you are the one doing the work, but asking for help or support can help you achieve your personal goals. No matter what your resolution is, always account for some setbacks. Sometimes on your journey to the ultimate goal, there will be times when things don’t go your way, or the results are not what you were after. This is the perfect opportunity to reassess your path and make some changes; just don’t give up. Also, don’t compare your results to another individual on a journey to a similar goal. Every one of us is different, and each of us responds differently to the methods that are presented to us. It is important to remind yourself that your goal is individual to you. Your resolution is set on your timeline, not someone else’s. Just as your resolution is personal to you, how you approach it should be just as personal and individualized. Do what works for you and be accountable to you. Darren Floro-Bryant is originally from Ontario, Canada, but now lives and works in Atlanta, GA. 2019 in Review What the Celebs Said Interviews by Chris Azzopardi Photos Courtesy of QSyndicate In 2019, out glam-rocker Adam Lambert encouraged us to keep fighting, out musician Ben Platt talked about authenticity, out actress Anna Paquin underlined how film and TV can change minds, and out Schitt’s Creek creator Dan Levy was in awe of his show’s resonance. Country music superstars Trisha Yearwood and Miranda Lambert also chimed in on LGBTQ issues, speaking out on their LGBTQ allyship. Meanwhile, A-list screen allies like Jamie Lee Curtis, Laura Linney, Amy Poehler, Charlize Theron and Laura Dern continued to show up for the community, discussing everything from their queer-inclusive movies to their longtime activism. Here’s a look back at 2019’s most memorable quotes:

“I wouldn’t say full-blown icon. Like, mini. I’m sort of like a mini icon.” – Laura Linney

“I experimented and I did what I think every young person should do: feel brave enough and free enough in order to figure it out.” – Charlize Theron

“Keep going, keep pushing. And when the opposition is stronger, we have to push back stronger.” – Adam Lambert

“If you’re authentic, I think that’s the most attractive quality beyond just a beautiful voice, feeling like this is undoubtedly exactly who you are.” – Ben Platt

“One of the wonderful things about the LGBTQ community is that they kind of throw caution to the winds and it’s a moment where people get together and celebrate the positive rather than the negative.”

“I hope they take away that I haven’t lost hope. That I still believe that people are good and that we’ll get through this.” – Wanda Sykes on her Netflix comedy special, Not Normal

– Anjelica Huston on Pride

“The reason why I fight the good fight: to try to make people see it the way I’ve been seeing it my whole life.”

“I think that people learn about people they don’t understand through entertainment. That’s one of our most powerful tools for bringing people out of their own bubble and their own world.” – Anna Paquin 12 | follow us @ peachatlmag

– Carly Rae Jepsen on normalizing the LGBTQ community

“I don’t even know what Twitter or twatter is! And I really don’t want to.” – Dionne Warwick

“To now be in the position that I am, getting to write what I find to be a really lovely queer romance that millions of people get to watch, it’s quite profound.” – Dan Levy www.peachatl.com

“You know, no one’s coming up to me going, ‘Oh god, that was fantastic!’ I mean, it’s so far gone. It’s far in the past. Who cares! But it’s nice to hear and I hope somebody enjoyed it. It’s like, maybe Goldie enjoyed it. Or Bette! They’ve had more interesting lives.” – Diane Keaton on The First Wives Club now

“I think questioning yourself or questioning the context you’re in comes natural to this community, and for me that’s something that I feel connected to…” – Robyn

“What if we could just stay in the place of being completely open?” – Judith Light

“I know it’s still not easy in certain circles, but I like where we are and where we’re going. We preach ‘love one another’ and that’s what we’re supposed to do.” – Trisha Yearwood

“It was so special, and when he was giving me permission to post about it, we both cried because it was such a big moment. I see now, talking about it, why it’s a big moment for other people: because it was a big moment for us too.” – Miranda Lambert on posting WorldPride pics of her and her gay brother

“I am letting her know that she should be free to love who she wants. I think it’s very clear that that mother is letting her know that she knows she needs to be her true self and whatever that looks like for her is incredible.” – Laura Dern on playing Mrs. March in Little Women

“The idea of just being present, it’s the way I approach the relationship with my son, the not judging. I’m not going “I don’t think it’s anybody’s at it trying to make him into business what people’s something he doesn’t want sexuality is, to be perfectly to be.” honest. I find it like a reverse “I say that it goes together – Kyle MacLachlan discrimination. People’s private for me, my faith and my love lives are their private lives and whether I’ve ever kissed a for not just gays but people.” girl – have not – is irrelevant – Kristin Chenoweth to whatever advocacy I participate in.” – Jamie Lee Curtis | 13

By Matt Sunderland If Hollywood were to make a movie of his life, Josh Brady says it would be called “What Not To Do.” “I’m still trying to figure out this whole life thing,” he admits. Porn’s brightest young star grew up with his two younger siblings between Los Angeles and a little town in Northeastern Oregon. Their parents were divorced, and he recalls his youth being chaotic at times, but mostly because of his own doing. He was a wild child who refused to conform to societal norms. Even today, he relates to singer Ke$ha and says he aspires to match her strength. We spoke with Josh Brady in Las Vegas, where he was on the set of his next Helix Studios film. Love the new photos! Were you going for the James Dean look in the shoot? I think we were definitely going for a little bit of the hot bad boy kinda vibe. It’s a very un-Brady shoot. Wait, do you even know who the Brady Bunch is?

Photo: Helix Studios Not really. I did all the normal stuff: movies, played sports, and video games, but yeah, I occasionally got into some trouble. How were gay kids treated in your hometown? I didn’t come out until I was out of high school, but as far as I can remember, gay people were treated pretty normally. What led to your decision to pursue an adult film career? I had already been working in the gay club scene for a couple of years prior to porn, so one day I decided to go for it. I haven’t looked back since. What are the best and worst parts of the job? The best parts, in my opinion, are all the cool and attractive people I’ve met and filmed with. The worst would have to be that it’s made sex a job instead of simply a pleasure. How has being a porn star impacted your dating life?

Josh Brady: (Laughing) I do know who they are! I like to think I’m the problem child of the family that they never talk about.

I don’t really date much, but in the couple relationships I have had, both guys weren’t very fond of my job, and it definitely was the topic of a few arguments.

Were you trouble?

Who is your best buddy in the biz, and what kind of hijinks have you gotten into?

(Laughing) We were supposed to make friends in this class? I can definitely say I’ve gotten into plenty of hijinks with everyone I’ve worked with. What do you look for in a guy? Josh Brady: I mean, looks are the first thing I notice. I tend to be into toned twinks more often than not. But personality-wise, they have to be sweet, caring, funny, witty, loyal, and honest. What is something fans would be surprised to know about you? I’m actually a pretty shy and quiet person until I get to know someone and am comfortable with them. What superstitions do you believe in? I believe in ghosts and demons and all the witchcraft stuff that goes with it if that counts? Do you have a secret talent? I’m a master of procrastination, avoidance, and never making my mind up. Beyonce, Billie (Eilish), Barbra (Streisand) - who is the real queen B?

sic, good food, baby animals, and genuine, kind people. What makes you angry? Traffic, waiting in lines, and people. Who are your heroes? Ghastly, David Dobrik, Ryan Reynolds, and Blackbear. You find a magic genie bottle. What are your three wishes? A billion dollars, a nice house in the hills, and no mental health issues. Which celebrity would you most like to slide into your DMs? Probably David Dobrik asking if I wanted to hang out and join the vlog squad (laughs). You’re about to be hit by a truck (sorry). What flashes before your eyes? The fact that I had a lot of fun and cool experiences but not as many accomplishments as I wanted.

Out of those three, probably Beyonce because she’s a bad bitch, but Ke$ha will forever be my #1 because I kind of relate to her journey and aspire to be as strong as she’s grown to be.

What does your gravestone read?

Who is the unlikeliest person that you follow on Twitter?

What is the biggest misconception about Josh Brady that you would like to clear up once and for all?

Hmmmm, I don’t think it’s unlikely that I’d follow anyone, really, but I do follow a lot of astrology and cute dog twitters.

I’m only a porn star a few days a month. Other than that, I’m just a normal person trying to figure life out as I go.

What makes you smile?

Lest We Not Forget … By Jamie Kirk We are kickstarting another year. Another chance to get it right. Another year to reset, reshift, and refocus. The time of year where we see the ever-so-popular bumper stickers that say “New Year, New Me.” But what does that really mean, because nothing really changes because the year changes. It›s not like when the new year starts, we go out of debt, our nasty cold leaves our body, or we deep-dive into or out of a relationship. Change is hard enough and even more so when we put limitations and dates on it. I am all for refocusing at this time of year and taking inventory of what worked and what did not work in the previous year, listing achieved goals and missed opportunities. But there are two big “rocks” that we often miss in our recalibration efforts. The first one is that we don’t start from a place of gratitude. We forget to list the things in our lives that went right for us in the year. For some reason, we tend to focus on our shortcomings and shortfalls. We begin to focus on all the things we didn›t accomplish, the friendships we didn›t mend, the bills we still have. Instead, I vote that we step back and write down the things that we are grateful for. I know it›s a cliché, but it works – it really works. If journaling is not your thing, another option, which I love, is to simply find an old Mason Jar, get a few sheets of blank paper, tear up little pieces, write down the event for which you are thankful, and place it in the jar. Done! Now and then, empty the jar and look at all the good stuff that has happened — a game-changing exercise. The other big “rock” is that we apply too much pressure on ourselves and shoot too high. Don’t get me wrong; I am not recommending that you set the bar low, nor am I saying you should make sure you don’t have to work to see a successful outcome. But putting too much pressure on ourselves breeds resentment. When we set 24 | follow us @ peachatlmag

a goal that is actually not attainable but looks good on our vision board, we will likely end up frustrated. Frustration, on top of disappointment, is a recipe for disaster. As you look for a way to move your life in a different direction, be realistic, and remember not to try and eat the elephant all in one bite. Sometimes it is not the goal, but the avenue to get there. If you want to learn how to play golf, maybe the initial goal is to watch a YouTube video once a week for six weeks and get the techniques down, even before you get a coach or buy the clubs. The goal can still be to learn how to play, but you are taking a small bite of the more significant initiative. When you apply the right pressure on yourself, you will see more pleasing results. We have to be kind to ourselves on the way to being better people. When you take into account the two additional steps of always starting from a place of gratitude and applying the right amount of pressure, goalsetting becomes easier. Most everyone these days has become so politically correct that we feel that our lives have to represent what others would approve of. That is not necessary. No one needs to be exposed to those areas that you want to improve upon. There is no need to put on social media that you are in debt and wish to pay off all your bills. Who cares? No one needs to know you want to write a book or get published. Just do it. Keep it personal and do the work. Prove it to yourself and no one else. Remember to set your life plan or goals just a bit out of reach, but not too far, so they are unrealistic. Bearing in mind that if you set your goal of re-engineering your life with unattainable expectations or if you start your plan without showing gratitude, you could very well end with disappointment at this same time next year. Turn over a new leaf and really consider not only the “what” you want to work on, but the “how” you plan on successfully getting there. www.peachatl.com

Him: Where are you? Text your Peach Pits to 540-30-PEACH, or e-mail mikkel@PeachATL.com

Me: I left early. Going home

Him: Come back. You’re drunk!

My boyfriend and I started a baby jar, so every time someone asks when we’re having kids, we put a dollar in, and when it’s full we will spend it on whatever we want, because we don’t have kids

Me: Don’t worry, I called a Lyft

Him: We had the party at your place…

Me: Wait, where am I going?

Hostage or not, sometimes it’s just nice to be held.

Wanna hear something scary? One day you will be able to do whatever you want, and you will choose to stay home!

Ok, so I set a goal of losing 10 pounds by the end of 2019. It’s going well so far – only 15 to go here at the beginning of the new year…

Middle age is when you finally get your head together and your body starts falling apart

After I say “that’s crazy” twice, please wrap up your story

I am giving up drinking for a month. Sorry, that come out wrong. I’m giving up. Drinking for a month

So who did you kiss on New Year’s Eve? The floor when I passed out

GEMINI (May 21 - Jun. 20) Your moods will be fiery today, and the slightest spark could make them go kaboom. But setting off fireworks also puts you at the center of attention, never good when you’re in the middle of a hissy fit. That’s a display no one will be cheering, so put a lid on the drama today.

CANCER (Jun. 21 - Jul. 22) Opening your big yapper could land you in a hot water today. So formulate sentences in your head and analyze them before delivery. It may take you longer to say things, but that will be best for everyone today, yourself included.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)

LEO (Jul. 23 - Aug. 22)

Postpone any social engagements you may have today. A rough day at work will dampen your enthusiasm for being outgoing and bon vivant. And no one wants to be around a sullen recluse who speaks in grunts. So delay going out until later in the week when you’ll feel the love.

Be your own man today, and don’t let anyone shape your opinions. Stick to your guns, as people will be persuasive. But you’ll still buy a ticket for the Rufus Wainright show because it’s expected of you, and because you never get enough of a guy singing the Judy Garland songbook.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)

VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sep. 22)

You may discover a dirty little secret about someone you don’t like today. Spreading this news discreetly through the general population will give you the upper hand in your tenuous relationship with this person. But take the high road and keep it to yourself, no matter how tempting it may be.

Be willing to do what’s necessary to climb that ladder today. That may mean being cruel and bitchy, although people may not notice a difference. Be hard-boiled, but don’t surrender to the dark side. Resorting to dirty tricks and subversive actions is too low to stoop in the name of ambition.

PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) You’ll feel as if you’re lost in a haze today. That won’t be a good place to be as the day swings into high gear. Better drink plenty of coffee to get you up to speed. But even that may not help, so you had best learn to fake it and hope no one notices.

ARIES (Mar. 21 - Apr. 19) Your enthusiasm for a new day will last only as long as your morning caffeine buzz. Better do something to get your energy levels up. A lunchtime workout could be the fix. Exercising will have you sweating bullets, while the eye candy will get your blood boiling.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 - Oct. 22) A gathering heat in your head may be causing storm clouds to hover above. Your irritability will be intimidating to people, and the constant lightning strikes to your head will eventually need some moisturizing. Best lighten up before the rains start. A bad hair day won’t make you feel any better.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21) Perhaps the clothes felt a little tight this past weekend. Maybe you were feeling less than sexy. Take your bruised ego back to the gym for some retooling. Be consistent and eat sensibly and your return to splendor and a 30-inch waist should only take a couple of weeks.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 20)

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)

The frenetic pace of hyper people won’t be to your liking today. You’ll prefer a slow ramp-up to a blastoff. So let them zoom right by you. They’ll crash by lunchtime while you plod right past them, getting things done.

You’ll project a masculine energy today that will have all eyes on you. You may not even be aware of the effect you’ll have on guys, as even the non-smokers rush out to buy Marlboros. But stay humble and slightly naive today. A slight hint of innocence will drive them even crazier!

By Mikkel Hyldebrandt Trouble in the love department? With sex? Or just people in general? Send us your queries, questions, and problems, and you’ll get answers served straight up and with a little ice.

I recently met this person, and one of the things I thought was so wonderful and refreshing about him was his complete disregard of gender-specific norms. He is just the freest person I know, and he turns some incredible looks where he effortlessly mixes and matches across gender stereotypes. So admirable! But just recently, he confided to me that he was actually transgender and that he was coming to terms with the fact that he needed to transition from male to female – and I am having a hard time with it. I am attracted to him, but I don’t think I can deal with him being her. Please help me out here.

The other day, my date and I were watching Sex and the City. You know, the episode where Samantha is dating a guy with funky tasting spunk. Yes, totally cute, until he turns to me and says my cum tastes really bad, and I should look into it. I was stunned because I thought everything was alright, and that he liked ‘eating me.’ So, looking into it here: is there anything I can do to make it sweeter? Is there a supplement? Sincerely Sour Seed

Sincerely Trans-Fixed Dear Sour Seed Dear Trans-Fixed You met a guy who is openly bends and disregards gender norms (are you sure they even identify as he/him at this point?), and you find that admirable. Still, you struggle with the fact that they may choose to identify as a trans woman and ultimately transition from male to female? It seems like you are stuck in some pretty rigid gender norms yourself, so my advice to you is to start educating yourself. First of all, you need to consider that this person has chosen you as a confidante to what is probably the most significant journey of their life. That’s really a big deal, so please don’t be that person at the very beginning of this process that meets them with prejudice and closed-mindedness! If you genuinely admire their ability to play with identity and gender effortlessly, don’t be part of a system that paints everything in plush pinks and powder blues. It is totally fair if you feel you can’t engage in any romantic relationship right this moment because you need to re-evaluate your emotions, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t be a friend and support instead. And it is also okay to have questions and seek answers, which is something your trans friend can help you with as they take their next steps on this journey. So pull yourself together and prove yourself as a trans ally – lord knows that trans men and women need that! – and engage in this process with an open mind and heart.

There are plenty of supplements out there that suggest that when ingested, your semen will taste like a nice little treat that everyone just wants to guzzle. But there is no serious research that indicates that taking a supplement or even eating or drinking certain things will make you taste sweeter. The reason is simply that no two bodies work alike, and there is absolutely no saying how foods or supplements will be processed in your particular body. That means you could be drinking nothing but pineapple juice for weeks (one of those things linked to possibly making semen taste sweeter), but if your body processes pineapple juice to produce toxins, your spunk may taste even funkier. There’s just no telling. Luckily for the both of you, there are plenty of other ways to finish a sex session, so think alternatives instead of letting this bring you down. I’m sure when things are heated, he’ll want to ‘eat’ you again.
