The Paris-based artist possesses a glamorous, elegant, timeless and irreverent style. With a great sense of aesthetics and observation, he is able to capture the moment of a model on the runway or a portrait of the many designers and celebrities he encounters. His work expresses a unique, signature style, often with a thick or blurred black line underlining the shape of his subjects, punctuated with washes of color for depth and effect. The exhibition was initially set to close on January 27 but has been extended to February 10, 2019. Visit scadfash.org for schedule and more information.

Doing Baldwin Proud By Gregg Shapiro Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins has the golden touch, especially when it comes to film adaptations of literary works. “Moonlight,” Jenkins’ 2016 film adaptations of gay writer Tarell McCraney’s “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue”, earned both men an Academy Award. Jenkins once again excels with “If Beale Street Could Talk” (Annapurna), based on the 1974 novel by the late gay writer James Baldwin. In fact, the film’s opening epigraph, a Baldwin quote about the book, firmly places the movie in literary territory. In truth, it’s hard to imagine another filmmaker (certainly not Ava DuVernay, for example) who could have created such a worthy adaptation. Set in New York in the early 1970s, young, unmarried couple Tish (Kiki Layne), 19, and Fonny (Stephan James), 22, have known each other since they were even younger, having grown up together. The film opens with Tish having to look at Fonny “through glass” as he is in prison, accused of a rape he did not commit. It’s in this setting that she tells him she’s pregnant. From there, “…Beale Street…” moves back and forth in time. In flashbacks, we watch as Tish and Fonny fall in love. Tish works behind the perfume counter at a department store. She still lives at home with her mother Sharon (Regina King in a career-defining performance that earned her a Golden Globe Award), father Joseph (out actor Colman Domingo) and older sister Ernestine (Teyonah Parris). Fonny went to a vocational school, but found it unsatisfying. He quit and stole tools from the school so he could make wood sculptures when he wasn’t working as a short order cook. Tish, who occasionally narrates the story, talks about the eye-opening effect of seeing Fonny outside the world in which she moved. As their relationship develops and they become more intimate, they eventually have sex. It’s the kind of tender and passionate first time for which we would all be grateful. Afterwards we can see that they are looking at each other through different eyes.

After telling Fonny that he’s going to be a father, Tish shares the news with her family. Her parents and sister take the news better than she expects. That same night, after drinking a toast to the baby, Tish’s parents invite Fonny’s family over to let them in on the big event. Unfortunately, Fonny’s fire-and-brimstone mother (Aunjanue Ellis), who never liked Tish, and blames her for the “destruction” of her son, creates quite a scene, resulting in her husband Frank (Michael Beach), slapping her silly. It’s an intense scene and features the first of King’s two Oscar moments in the movie. Meanwhile, Victoria (Emily Rios), the woman who accused Fonny of sexual assault has left New York for her native Puerto Rico, decreasing the chances of getting at the truth in the case. But everyone bands together and does what they can to seek justice. Sharon and Ernestine meet with Hayward (Finn Witrock), the lawyer. The fathers, Joseph and Frank, have their own scheme involving fencing stolen goods to raise money to pay the lawyer. Sharon even journeys to Puerto Rico to meet with Victoria. While it doesn’t pack the same emotional punch as “Moonlight”, “If Beale Street Could Talk” is still another notable achievement by Jenkins. As much a story about young love, life consequences and racial prejudice and inequality (something that definitely rings true today), as it is a commentary on the disparities in the judicial and prison systems. The fact that it’s Regina King, in a supporting role, who basically owns the movie, says more about her underappreciated talents as an actress than anything else. It’s a safe bet to put your money on King come Oscar time.

Let’s face it, cold weather does not do our skin any favors! My skin fluctuates between dry and oily, and who knew there was such a thing as beard dandruff?! So, during the colder months, I change my skincare routine to both build a better barrier against the cold and to prevent any skin peeves.

Favorite Things Make Winter Look Good

Editor-in-Chief mikkel@peachatl.com Instagram: @hyldebrandt

Take Care Your Scalp

Your scalp can get itchy and irritated because of the cold, so to prevent a case of dandruff, treat your hair and scalp with soothing and moisturizing hair products. Yes To Tea Tree & Sage Calming Scalp Relief, $5

Wash Gently

I actually enjoy washing my face, but if overdone, it can strip my skin of natural oils that build an effective barrier against the cold. Use a non-stripping and soapfree cleanser instead. Ren Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk, $28

Moisture Aplenty

When the humidity drops, your skin needs a moisture boost to keep its balance. Without it, your skin can alternate between parchment dry and oily because when dried out your skin will (over)produce natural oils to counter dry conditions. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer, $28

See a Serum

If you really want to change the condition of your skin, you need a serum – a concentrated extract of skin-loving ingredients that will penetrate deeper into the skin. In the wintertime, an antioxidant serum can be helpful to soothe inflammation in the skin caused by the colder temps. Rustic Maka Balance Antioxidant Facial Serum, $25

Moisturize Your Beard

Or rather, the skin beneath your facial hair. Excess moisture and dryness can wreak havoc on the skin and cause the not so cute condition beard dandruff. Wash with a cleanser (never shampoo!), and rub some moisturizer in your beard (yes, you can use your regular cream). Murdock London Beard Moisturizer, $32

Here Come the RESOLUTIONARIES! By Mikkel Hyldebrandt If you work out regularly, you know that come January, the gym will be overflowing with all those people who have vowed to lose the holiday weight gains and have made a resolution to a healthier year. In other words, the Resolutionaries! But instead of shooing them from your fitness playground, why not try to welcome them by leading as the prime example of gym practices? On my first day back at the gym after New Year’s, I was mentally prepared for larger than usual crowds. But I wasn’t prepared for the middle-aged guy on the treadmill in front of me who kept breaking into outof-breath, near-death sprints accompanied by loud groans of exertion. Nor was I prepared for the amount of sweat that sprayed off him, so the floor and treadmills on either side of him where sprinkled wet. I felt my anger rise with every sweat-dripping, nearly fatal sprint, but when he finally stepped off with his clothing sweat-soaked and dripping, I was momentarily relieved to see that he went to get paper towel to clean up the sweaty massacre. Until he simply wiped the top of the handlebars and took off leaving the equipment dripping along with sweaty trail all the way to the locker room. ‘Damn Resolutionary,’ I thought, internally cursing him and his likes, already looking forward to the not too distant future where all vows and resolutions had been broken and put to rest. But then I was thinking about when I first joined a gym. About how insecure it could make me. About how I wanted to appear at least like I knew what I was doing. About how often I would have no clue about my own limits. So, even though the sweaty guy was apparently new to the gym, and he had little idea what he was doing, it was still a good thing he was there, right? And instead of wishing him far, far away, could his behavior be changed? Could he be molded into a tolerable gymgoer - maybe even with the help of those experienced gym rats around him? Like me? So, with 16 | 01.23.19

that in mind, here are a few friendly pointers that will welcome the resolutionaries while making the whole experience more pleasant for everybody.

Getting It Right Like the guy on the treadmill, newcomers often don’t know how to operate equipment, and they don’t know their own limitations yet. You can always point out that they are doing it wrong (with a high risk of injury!), and then suggest that they may schedule that free training assessment that is offered with every new membership. Or you can alert the staff at the gym to the fact that a client is about to seriously injure himself (or others) with what he is about to do.

Gym Etiquette This is probably the biggest reason for irritation: newcomers don’t know how to act in the gym! They don’t clean off the equipment, don’t re-rack weights, and hog the equipment forever to name a few pet peeves of everyone else. It is perfectly fine to let them know that the gym is for everybody, so no one should just consider their own workout, but also keep in mind that others are working out around you: wipe equipment, re-rack weights, and don’t take up all the space all the time! Be friendly despite your annoyance, so you help perpetuate an attitude of inclusion and positivity.

Encouragement If you are not one to walk up to a stranger and tell them how to work out correctly or remind them of proper etiquette, a little encouragement can go a long way. Eye contact, a little smile, a nod, can make a newcomer feel much more comfortable in a strange and new environment.

Give Margaret Cho a Hand Comedian talks new Asian-led kink series, queer sex and Hollywood homophobia

By Chris Azzopardi Damn that bulging carpometacarpal joint. Without it, Margaret Cho’s kink play could’ve been trouble-free, but nope – that thumb joint has been “the bane of my existence since 1991,” she tells me. That’s right: I talked to Margaret Cho and we somehow landed on the topic of fisting. These things happen! (They especially do if, like I did, you launch your convo with Cho by informing her that your introduction to the word “fisting” was via her early stand-up). Clearly, our afternoon chat took many wild and sexually freewheeling turns when the trailblazing comic called to discuss executive producing Mercy Mistress, an Asian-led web series exploring BDSM through the relationship of its lead, a queer Chinese-American dominatrix named Mistress Yin (played by actress-activist Poppy Liu), and her new client. The series is based on sex-work activist and BDSM educator Yin Q’s memoir. Difficult digits aside, Cho discussed her intro to kink, diversity casting, what makes queer sex special and why Christian Grey should’ve been a sub.

You’ve long spoken openly about sex, sexuality and kink. Why is it important to you to talk about queer sex in your work? It’s just another way to embellish identity. There are just ways of being ourselves, and when you’re queer and you come out, you come out to a world where you kind of need to figure out who you are because the examples aren’t out there for us. They aren’t defined. The lanes aren’t so, like, obvious (laughs). So, you really need to create it. When I was growing up in the ’80s and ’90s we had to deal with AIDS, which was such a huge, difficult monstrosity to get your head around and also to understand what we could do sexually that was not fluid bonded, so that’s where bondage and BDSM – all that kind of stuff – really came into the culture in a very, very big way. So, I was working in San Francisco at a lesbian BDSM collective making leather dildos and vaginas. (Laughs)

I believe you’re referring to Stormy Leather. Yeah. Way back when. And so, I was just very interested in that world, and it just developed alongside everything. Now, BDSM is very mainstream with Fifty Shades of Grey and that kind of stuff, so it’s cool.

Is there a toy that you made that you were particularly proud of, like, “Hey, I did that”? No, because I wasn’t designing them. It was more just the sheer number of ways you could make a strap-on. You could do a chin one, you could do a forehead one, like a unicorn. You could do a thigh one. I think the thigh one actually makes a lot of sense, ergonomically. It’s actually better for the lower back than the traditional jockstrap harness.

A strap-on that’s easier on the lower back appeals to me as I get older. Yeah, you wanna make sure you can continue doing these repetitive movements. Strap-ons, there’s a great appeal to them. They’re really fun, and even if you’re not necessarily in a queer sexual relationship, you could definitely use them in any way, shape or form. I think that it adds another element. If you can add another phallus, it’s always a positive.

Regarding your own queer sex education, whose examples were you following while growing up in the ’80s? (Sex-positive feminist author) Susie Bright had a major role in that, and in the digital age somebody like (erotica writer) Violet Blue, who’s a good friend of mine. Also (former porn actress and sex-positive feminist) Nina Hartley, who is a very, very old friend of mine and really great. They’re people who really just showed me the ropes, as it were. (Laughs)

Is Mercy Mistress a good introduction for somebody who doesn’t know much about the kink world? Yeah, I think it’s a great, great introduction. And also, we’re seeing Asian-Americans in a way we’ve never seen before, which I think is really incredible too. That’s what I get really excited about. I think we’ve really gotten to this place that we’re looking at diversity as something that is really necessary and really important, so I love that. And it really puts the control back into our hands, like we can actually control the narrative, as opposed to being an object; we’re actually running the thing. That’s really amazing.

How did you get involved as a producer? My company, Animal Family, is one of the producers. We got into contact with the Mercy Mistress people; they just really spoke to us, and we really loved what they were doing. We loved the landscape of the world they were showing. We loved everything. It just seemed like a natural fit.

being around all of that, it just seemed inevitable. My father owned a gay bookstore and he hired all these employees who were identifying in different ways, who were transitioning. Transitioning started in the ’70s, which is an incredible thing if you think about how early this was. People were transitioning, of course, before that, but that was the first experience I have had with people who were deciding to define their own gender. I got hired at Stormy Leather and I started meeting trans men for the first time. Before that it was just male-to-female trans women, but this was different, when it was female-tomale transition. That was a very big, eye-opening thing; it just gave female body sexuality so much agency, which I had never really experienced before, and I thought that was really amazing and powerful.

In recent years, the trans community has been given a greater mainstream platform. But as we know, and as you point out, transgender people have existed for a very long time. Yeah, it’s been there; it’s just that we as a society haven’t looked to them, and yet they’ve changed and shaped culture for centuries. It’s really been forever but we just didn’t know.

I think the same can be said about the kink community in a way, don’t you? It’s something that’s been there but we haven’t explored it in a mainstream way.

And when we do, do we get it right? Did Fifty Shades of Grey get it right? Well, my feeling about Fifty Shades of Grey is, for the Christian Grey character, there’s no way he could actually be a dominant. He has to be a male submissive. Usually men who are wealthy, in great positions of power, and who have that much luxury at their disposal to kind of extend on their sexuality are going to be a male submissive because they are just sick of being in charge. That, to me, is where I find it to be off. It’s almost like Cinderella or something. It’s kind of this weird European folktale where these gender roles are very stringent and don’t allow for the men to fully explore their potential in who they really could be.

Because, according to Hollywood, it’s the way a man should act. Yeah. And that’s the reason for these stories: to enforce the status quo and keep the culture intact and keep us from overstepping. But I don’t want to be told that when you’re in there for fantasy. It’s not authentic to me. But I appreciate that it exists – and I appreciate that it sent countless millions of people to explore what this kind of sexuality is.

When did your interest in kink first pique?

What perspective does Mercy Mistress offer on kink that hasn’t yet been portrayed in the media?

Growing up in San Francisco around that era of queer politics was a very big deal. I grew up on Polk Street, which was really the epicenter; that and the Castro, where Harvey Milk was doing a lot of work. So, I think

It’s a real place of honesty and truth around what kink is. That it’s just about a turn-on and the different kinds of people encountered in this world. The images of people in it are very authentic, which I think is very different.

20 | 01.23.19

A gay character tells a straight character: “You all need some kind of manual to figure out kinky sex.” What can LGBTQ people teach the straight community about kink?

I think that’s exactly what should happen, but homophobia still exists, even in the realm of film and in the realm of not even what’s real, but what’s possible.

We listen to our instincts because that’s all we have to go on. And that’s the biggest truth: We do what we like because we fight so hard to get to do what we like.

It seems Hollywood is walking a tight rope. Bohemian Rhapsody was damaging when it comes to the way gay sex is portrayed in film. I think Hollywood really has muted our sex lives to be palatable for mainstream consumption. What’s your take on the way queer sex is portrayed in mainstream Hollywood films?

How does your “interests and limits” list these days compare to your kink origins? I’ve actually gotten way more vanilla, which is funny, because when you’re out there, you’re trying to show off a little bit, to some degree, as to what you can take and what you’re able to handle (laughs). And embellish that – embellish your own prowess. As I’m approaching 50, rapidly, I feel like, actually, I’m much more sedate, but I appreciate all the things that I’m experiencing seeing. I think that’s great. But yeah, still can’t get that thumb-knuckle in for the fisting! (Laughs) All these years later, I could never get that thumb in there, and I always had this feeling of like, “I’m just not really good enough to do this.” But you don’t have to get the thumb in.

We’re always going to have to strive for better and strive for more. There are examples where it actually goes very well. I’m thinking about Wong Kar-wai’s Happy Together, which has incredible sex scenes, and that film is about 20 years old, and it’s from Hong Kong and that’s another element of it. Hopefully we’ll get more of that. But you know, it’s still developing and still growing. There’s just the complexity of the sexuality too. I just saw Boy Erased, which to me did a great job in really talking about how we can be misguided and misunderstood, like whether it’s assault, that it actually can be assault, that there’s all these questions: Is this rape? And, yes, it is. That was actually the first time I had seen that issue come up in a mainstream movie.

It’s still fisting without the thumb?

Do you think that scene was important?

It’s still fisting without the thumb! And, you know, it’s really fun.

I thought it was important because it was giving permission for a male survivor to say that it happened and there was no thinking of, “Oh, he deserved it,” or, “He wouldn’t mind that because he wanted that anyway.” It being brought up was really meaningful, and as a survivor myself it was a really important thing that I had never seen in a film, especially with male characters. That kind of really blew my mind.

Even all these years later?

In my mind, I’m still laughing about this thumb thing. It’s the first joint that comes out. I’m looking at my thumb right now. It’s that first little thumb joint. I just cannot get it in – no matter how small their thumb is, that joint always stick out. That joint has been the bane of my existence since 1991. I just can’t get it in there. No kind of lube is gonna (work) and I’m probably as stretched out as you can get and it’s still not gonna happen.

And you give up? I give up. I’m done.

When it comes to kink, does anything shock you anymore? Mm, no. Because it’s in the realm of play, nothing should be off-limits. It’s play for a reason; it’s just fantasy. It’s these cathedrals we construct around our imagination; they have no bearing to what is in the real world, you know? If it’s just play, everything is just play. People get into very wild situations that we don’t have to judge or that we don’t have to say, “That’s too far,” because it’s not for public consumption; it’s just between two people or between however many people have agreed on this particular fantasy.

Have you seen Call Me By Your Name? Yes, yes, I’ve seen that.

Some in the queer community wanted to see Armie Hammer’s character eat the peach after Timothée Chalamet’s Elio ejaculated in it because that’s what happens in the book. Was that a missed kink opportunity?

I’d like to come back to Asian representation in media, since you blazed that trail with your 1994 sitcom All-American Girl. As someone who keeps finding new ways to break that ground, and after Crazy Rich Asians and Mercy Mistress, what do you hope is the next step for Asian representation? I just hope there’s more, which there is, which is great. I’m really excited about it. I’m so thrilled about Crazy Rich Asians and, of course, All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. And now both of those projects are going to have sequels. They’re already in the works; it’s happening. And there’s more and more. So now we’re looking at more of an excitement around Asian-American participation in entertainment, which is something I’ve been working on for more than 20 years, trying to get there, so this is a realization of that dream. It’s very exciting. As editor of Q Syndicate, the international LGBTQ wire service, Chris Azzopardi has interviewed a multitude of superstars, including Meryl Streep, Mariah Carey and Beyoncé. Coming of Age in the 80s By Jeff Fuller

Recently, I re-watched, Stand By Me, one of my favorite movies from the 1980s. The movie, based on a Stephen King novella, is set in the 1950s and tells the story of four boys who set out into the woods to find a body of a missing boy. This touching, quotable movie played an important role for Generation X boys like me growing up in the mid1980s. Watching the movie in the late 2010s, I realized I was watching a story written by someone in his 30s or 40s, telling a story set in the time period of his own youth while reflecting on my own youth decades later. 80s nostalgia is everywhere now, much like 50s and 60s nostalgia was when I was growing up. Now it’s my generation’s turn to create nostalgia trips, producing works like Stranger Things, Ready Player One, The Americans, and the San Junipero episode of Black Mirror. There is a renewed interest in 80s music. 80s nights at The Basement in East Atlanta are filled with people with no living memory of those times. Now that the 80s is a generation in the past, it is now seen as a fascinating, exotic time. My experience of the 80s was both happy and heartbreaking. I grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio, a lakefront suburb of Cleveland that could have been the setting of any John Hughes movie. In the early 80s, I was a precocious, exuberant kid. While many gay kids idolized Madonna, my diva was Olivia Newton-John. I remember buying all her albums (on 8 track) and listening to them in the basement, where I would roller skate to “Xanadu,” “Heart Attack,” and “Physical.” The 80s news media described a frightening outside world: the threat of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, child abduction and cyanide in Tylenol. I was thankfully too young to experience the worst of the plague years of HIV/AIDS firsthand, but I was old enough to witness the horrors of it unfolding in the news and the uninformed hysteria about how the disease was spread. Unfortunately for me, and many others who grew up when I did, HIV/ AIDS was the first context for hearing any discussion of “homosexuality” or “being gay” outside of playground taunts. I had a close friend in my early years of elementary school. He was a goofy, class clown, Ferris Bueller type, always

32 | 01.23.19

causing trouble and always getting away with it. We used to write computer programs in BASIC and build forts in the woods. But because we spent too much time together some of our classmates called us “fags.” Desperate to fit in, I stopped hanging out with him altogether. The late 80s, my junior high years, were difficult. Bullies sprayed fart spray on me at a junior high school dance, shoved me into my locker and called me “faggot” all the time. I escaped into my own world of books, music, television and my own imagination. During these years, I loved watching The Golden Girls at home. I also spent a lot of time listening to music, especially New Wave music like Duran Duran, Depeche Mode and INXS, rather than the heavy metal hair bands that all the bullies did. I remember being intrigued by George Michael, less in his Wham days, but when he traded in his pastels for a leather jacket. The “Faith” album was the only music purchase that I ever had any controversy with my parents over. By the early 90s, hair bands gave way to alternative and grunge music. John Hughes movies gave way to dark comedies like Heathers. Flannel-wearing, artsy people in coffee shops and marching bands accepted me and I began developing self-esteem. However, I completely hid my sexuality in the hopes of fitting in. Even though the Basket Case and the Nerd were in vogue, the Princess and the Jock world still ruled the world. It would take me several more years and more cultural change until I would feel brave enough to accept my sexuality and take steps out of the closet. In Stand By Me, the sensitive, writer Wil Wheaton character asks the River Phoenix character, “Do you think I’m weird?” The River Phoenix character responds: “Definitely . . . but so what? Everybody’s weird.” Maybe the 80s would have been an easier time to grow up in if there were more people in my life to reassure me that everything would turn out okay. Apart from being a Gay Generation-Xer, Jeff Fuller is an attorney, writer, travel blogger, historian, and military spouse. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Jeff went to college, graduate school and law school in the Southeast. He has called Atlanta home for the last decade, interrupted by a few periods of extended travel abroad to places like Brazil and Berlin. He occasionally blogs at journeyingjeff.com.

Rubye’s Sing, Dance and 1/2 price winter rates Wear Red Lipstick Party! in Dec, Jan & Feb! January 12, 2019 Volunteer Campground Cleanup, January 26th peachATL.com | 33

Bottoms Up for Winter The winter season tends to get me feeling down. Usually my fix for it is to travel to my private island just next to the equator. Nothing like escaping the gloomy weather with some sun and surf. A good friend of mine recently asked ‘what can people, who don’t have private islands, do to escape the cold?’ It never occurred to me island real-estate isn’t a more common thing. Nevertheless, I decided to figure out some fun ways the everyman can feel better when the weather has them trapped indoors. I personally love a good after-party. I like to throw one whenever possible. I had a Golden Globes after party recently. When my milkman passed away, I threw his funeral attendees an after-party, complete a “who loved him most” award ceremony and a touching in memoriam power point presentation. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. If you’re ever feeling bored inside your house and it’s too cold to go out, throw an after-party! I once threw one for my dog when she finally learned to roll over. I invited all the neighbors and we took shots each time she’d successfully roll over. I want to point out that giving your dog shots will affect their ability to do the trick. Get creative with what the after-party will follow. Some of my favorite parties attended included my friends’ “Pre-nup Signing After-Party”, “The Results Came Back Negative After-Party” and my friend Lucy’s annual “Are We Doing This or Not? After-Party”. If a casual after-party isn’t your style, organize a friendly neighborhood orgy! My nephew, thrice removed, Nathaniel Lieu’d’chris hosts an annual Mid-Winter Wet Dream. I learn many of my sex tips from him. Millennials like Nathaniel, I feel, have advanced human sexuality generations into the future. He told at his last soiree how millennials have grown fond of eating bootie. I have dabbled in the art back in my college days, but I found it thrilling that more and more straight men are enjoying the beauty and joy of people playing with their fart box as much as their hard co**s. My nephew has a special game he calls Bottoms Up. It’s like beer pong, but you play it by placing a funnel in your butt and have people try to land a ping-pong ball inside. Whoever succeeds, gets rimmed for twenty minutes non-stop. If you manage to pop it back out, you get rimmed. It’s quite the spectacle! But be a good sport and make sure you show up at the party freshly douched and squeaky clean. My neighbor shared her favorite winter pastime. She has a motto “when the weather gets low, I get high”. She is a professional pot smoker, and part-time distributor to local youth. Colds days are nothing for her as long as there’s spirit in her heart and a bong in her hands. She loves a good Netflix marathon. She puts a spin on it by taking a hit every time she feels the show she’s watching is trying too hard to be cool. You should have seen her blazing through season three of Orange Is the New Black! I decided to put a spin on her activity, by suggesting that the next time it’s cold outside, host a party (sex or otherwise), have your guests (particularly millennials) put a bong in their butt, and make a game of smoking them out. I’ve not tried it yet, but I can’t see how it could go wrong. Winter may bring the dreary cold temperatures, cloudy skies and a reminder of the endless black void that will consume us all one day, but it doesn’t have to be lacking in fun. You can lift your season moods with a simple call to a few friends, some enemas, weed and alcohol. I hope to hear from everyone on how they turned their seasonal frowns upside down. And if you happen to be hosting an event yourself, hit me up!

Yours in keeping it clean,

That boy is being handed around to all the bears in the community – maybe he should be called Goldicocks?

CANCER (JUN. 21 - JUL. 22) Show some restraint when throwing money around today. Sure, you’ll be able to afford it, but are you being blinded by a fat price tag and a lot of bells and whistles? Bigger and better often translates to trashy and cheesy when money is in the wrong hands.

LEO (JUL. 23 - AUG. 22) You shine like the sun, but you rarely share your warmth with just one person. You may be a man of the people but even you needs a one and only. So today spread your light on a special fella. Everyone else will just have to get used to being in the dark.

AQUARIUS (JAN. 20 - FEB. 18)

VIRGO (AUG. 23 - SEP. 22)

A warm and giving environment often promotes creative collaboration. And not just in the workplace. Show your partner some TLC and things could get quite creative. Sometimes long term partners forget how easy that can be.

You may have to bear your fangs to overbearing people today. With their drama and histrionics they’ll make your day a nightmare if you don’t. Flash your claws as well, but do what you have to do to get them off your back and running for the band-aids.

PISCES (FEB. 19 - MAR. 20)

LIBRA (SEP. 23 - OCT. 22)

You may have too much going on today, so take some ‘me’ time to just sit and visualize. Entertaining your fantasies can be a nice break in the day but you may have to finish some of them after you get home from your boyfriend’s place and you’re on your own computer.

Look at the big picture today as details won’t matter. Analyzing things will make them more complex than they need to be. Sometimes you just have to take things at face value, and that includes guys. Let your gut tell you if seeing is believing.

ARIES (MAR. 21 - APR. 19)

SCORPIO (OCT. 23 - NOV. 21)

Your virility could be put to the test today. A big daddy with a dominant personality could swagger into your life, and you’ll suddenly feel like a little boy. But be a man and rise to the occasion today. Little boys can grow up real fast.

Money may not be coming in as smoothly as you’d like, so you may have to start cutting some corners. This could have a drastic effect on your social life. But look on the bright side: Going out only once a week could put the sheen back on what has become a tedious exercise.

TAURUS (APR. 20 - MAY 20)

SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 22 - DEC. 21)

Be tolerant of strange and unusual people today. They seem to be everywhere these days, like the inmates are running the asylum. Learn to laugh with them, because they always seem so happy and content. But then again, that may be the Prozac at work.

This could be a lucky day for you as good fortune smiles. So don’t be afraid to take some romantic risks. Call a few guys you haven’t spoken to in a while and reconnect. You may find that some of them will be happy to hear from you again, while others still haven’t dropped the restraining orders.

GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUN. 20)

CAPRICORN (DEC. 22 - JAN. 19)

No wonder our flag is a rainbow, because there’s so many colors in our world. A more diverse group of people you could not meet, so celebrate that today. It’s our diversity that makes us strong, and it’s our differences that make us united.

Tired of running the show, you may have to teach others how to take control today. Sometimes people close to you need to learn how to think for themselves, and not depend on someone else. What happens if that other person is no longer there? It’s called tough love and they’ll be better for it.

By Mikkel Hyldebrandt Trouble in the love department? With sex? Or just people in general? Send us your queries, questions, and problems, and you’ll get answers served straight up and with a little ice.

My boyfriend and I have a great sex life. He’s a wonderful bottom, and I’m a committed top. But lately, he has been asking me if he can top me, and I have an issue with it. You see, I have been topped before, but by really masculine guys and my boyfriend is really cute but definitely not that. I am just not turned on by the fact that it isn’t a total butch guy who is ‘taking’ me. I know I’m not fair to my boyfriend, and I want him to explore this with me, so how do I get over it?

Sincerely Butch Topper Dear Butch Topper I’m glad that you recognize that you need to get over it because right now you are playing into some pretty nasty stereotypes about getting penetrated. We still live in a society where ancient notions of penetrative sex prevail – like dating back to ancient Romans and Greeks! Even today with a whole equal rights movement behind us, something derogatory is almost never said about a “top,” while a “bottom” often hear disparaging remarks. Take the general saying that Atlanta is full of bottoms – does that sound positive or negative to you? I wish you – and the rest of the gay community – would stop buying into these patently ancient and also false ideas of gay sex! It’s time to change the interpretation of what is what because who cares! You should at least be willing to do what your boyfriend gets done to him. You should never do anything sexually against your will, but you being apprehensive about bottoming solely because he is less butch than you, is totally unfair. So ask yourself what it would take for you to make it acceptable. Do you need to butch him up and at the same give that leather Daddy fantasy a go? Or do you change your way of thinking so that you’re not focused on a bottom fucking you, but it’s your boyfriend?

Maybe look at it this way: It’s a new way to know the man you love. Now go get it!

The other day, the guy I’m dating and I were watching Sex and the City, you know, the episode where Samantha is dating a guy with funky tasting spunk. Yes totally cute, until my date turns to me and says my cum tastes really bad, and I should look into it. I was stunned because I thought everything was alright, and that he liked ‘eating me.’ So, looking into it: is there anything I can do to make it sweeter? Is there a supplement?

Sincerely Sour Spooge Dear Sour Spooge There are plenty of supplements out there that suggest that when ingested your semen will taste like nice little treat that everyone just wants to guzzle. But there is no serious research that indicates that taking a supplement or even eating or drinking certain things will make you taste sweeter. The reason is simply that no two bodies work alike and there is absolutely no saying how foods or supplements will be processed in your particular body. That means you could be drinking nothing but pineapple juice for weeks (one of those things linked to possibly making semen taste sweeter), but if your body processes pineapple juice to produce toxins, your spunk may taste even funkier. There’s just no telling. Luckily for the both of you, there are plenty of other ways to finish a sex session, so think alternatives instead of letting this bring you down. I’m sure when things are heated he’ll want to ‘eat’ you again.
