From the Editor The weather is definitely giving us all the Spring vibe realness right now, so in anticipation of the changing of the season, we wanted to give a taste of what your culinary undertakings will look like once the weather flips the spring switch. We have talked to three chefs from a few of our favorite spots, and they give us their take on foodie trends and seasonal ingredients – and even a few cooking tips! Dig in! Scott King is also hungry, but he wants to gobble on a manwich, but also realizes that that kind of hunger is never really satisfied – maybe you can guess what kind of hunger (or thirst!) he is talking about?

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder At the Fabulous Fox Theatre
The Tony® Award winner for Best Musical, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, will play the Fox Theatre in Atlanta from March 13-18, 2018 in its first national tour. Gentleman’s Guide tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, a distant heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession, by any means necessary. All the while, he’s got to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea. One of Broadway’s most celebrated musicals, Gentleman’s Guide received ten 2014 Tony® Award nominations, winning four awards: Best Musical, Direction of a Musical, Book of a Musical, and Best Costume Design. In addition, it won the Best Musical prizes from the Drama League, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle, and received a 2015 Grammy® Award nomination for Best Musical Show Album. Gentleman’s Guide beautifully revives the classic musical genre, and it even has an Atlanta connection: James Taylor Odom plays the character of Lord Adalbert D’Ysquith. What: A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. When: March 13-18, 2018 (six performances) Where: The Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St NE Admission: $30-95, tickets at foxtheatre.org

NEW GAY IN TOWN: Can We Be Future Friends?
By Branden Lee

I’ve always been against the idea of being friends with exes. I always imagined it’s too hard to truly keep an ex in my life since I feel like I always hold on to some love for my exes. Even if we’ve broken up and no matter how long it’s been, this person was once an integral part of my life and meant so much to me.

Friendship is extremely important to me. I don’t use the term “friend” lightly, and if someone is my friend I want to be able to share everything with them. Including who I’m dating/hooking up with. Being friends with my exes would mean being able to comfortably talk about who we’re both seeing without feeling jealous, angry, or bitter about the other moving on. In the past, I’ve gotten to a point with a few exes where I can discuss who we’re now seeing, though that’s usually years down the line. Yet I still don’t have a desire to actually hang out with my exes, but am fine with texting or following each other on social media. I know many gay people remain friends with their ex. For some, it’s easier and more convenient to just transition an ex into a friend, since you already had the trust, bond, and connection together. Friendship is also a deep bond; you just have to subtract the sexual and romantic love aspects from the relationship to maintain a friendship. I have heard of so many situations of friends being uncomfortable discovering that the new person they’re still seeing is roommates with their ex. Good roommates are hard to find, and when you’re trapped in a lease, it’s not that
easy to move out once you break up. I’m not sure if I’d be comfortable in this situation since even a secure person would be bothered that the person they’re dating is sleeping under the same roof as someone they once loved and had sex with. You never know what’s going on as soon as you leave, and I’ve also heard of people finding out the person they’re dating is still sleeping with their ex. I don’t really get over my exes until someone new enters the picture. My old love needs to be replaced by my new love for me to get over a breakup. If I’m hanging on to my ex as a “friend,” it’s just delaying and preventing myself from moving on. Constantly talking, flirting, staying in contact just provides hope of a reconciliation. I do think it’s best to end contact with exes. I don’t want to have to block each other since I want the option of being able to contact them if necessary, and being able to see what they’re up to online. Just the whole trying to remain in contact as “friends” is too much for me.
Everyone is different. It does seem more mature to be able to stay platonic friends with exes. It seems more nuanced to be able to be happy for your ex moving on and even attending their wedding to someone else in the future. Maybe it’s because I’m young, or that I’ve only had one boyfriend in my life, but I’m just not at a point where I can fathom being that comfortable keeping an ex in my life. The reasons behind the breakup also play a factor. If we broke up because we mutually knew we weren’t meant to be, or life circumstances tore us apart, then that’s easier to accept and possibly be friends. If the relationship ended due to dramatic circumstances that never were resolved and one person didn’t truly want things to end, then it makes sense that friendship in the future isn’t plausible. Breakups are always hard. We can’t predict if we will stay friends with exes or not. It would be nice. There’s also nothing wrong with knowing that exes are better left in the past, especially if you need to heal completely.
If we’ve decided to break up, then I want a clean break. I need to be free. Free to put myself together. Free to live my life without them. Free to move on, feel happy, and find love again.

Seasonal Eats By Mikkel Hyldebrandt
As the season changes, we are bound to also change the way we eat. New ingredients come into season, and our palates change to accommodate lighter and fresher fare. Peach asked some of our favorite chefs across Atlanta about their thoughts on food trends and seasonal favorites.
Chef Ryan Harrison, Gusto The casual eatery has several locations strewn across Atlanta and blends multi-cultural influences in healthy, freshly cooked bowls perfect for a lunch on the go or a healthy dinner option.
What’s your style of cooking/cuisine? I like to blend ingredients inspired by both international cuisine and familiar American flavors, that adds a distinct flavor profile and texture to each dish.
What do you see as a food trend right now? Poke bowl (raw fish over rice) is becoming a thing right now
My Favorite (Spring) Cooking Ingredient Asparagus
My Cooking Tip Always season your greens with salt and pepper. It’s a simple step that is usually overlooked.
All chefs and restaurants featured here will be part of the wildly popular Taste of Atlanta festival in October. Check out tasteofatlanta.com for more info.

Chef Taylor Domet, True Food Kitchen
Our Favorite (Spring) Cooking Ingredient
The relaxed, eco-chic eatery located at Lenox Square serves health-conscious and vegan-optional fare that challenges the general notion of health food with cuisine-style dishes and an excellent cocktail menu. Taylor is the Regional Director of Culinary Standards Chef for True Food Kitchen.
Eggplant is one of the most underrated vegetables in my opinion! We are adding a Miso Glazed Japanese Eggplant dish to our spring menu that I’m very excited about. We roast the eggplant on high heat with a sesame-miso vinaigrette, which adds a nice sweet, spicy & smoky flavor to the eggplant. We pair that with some lentils, roasted peppers, and a tahini yogurt.
What’s True Food’s style of cuisine? We take a lot of pride in what comes in the back door at True Food Kitchen. Focusing on nutritional density and overall health benefits at True Food is driven by Dr. Andrew Weil’s beliefs in food as medicine.
What do you see as a food trend right now? Vegetable(s) as the center of the plate is growing in popularity across the US. More people are continuing to move towards a less meat driven diet for a multitude of reasons.
Our Cooking Tip Simplicity & technique should be given the respect they deserve. There’s nothing better in my opinion than food that has been perfectly cooked & seasoned: rotisserie chicken, roasted bell peppers, grilled asparagus. Focus on your seasoning and cooking technique, and you can’t go wrong.
Chef Savannah Sasser, Hampton + Hudson The contemporary gastropub serves New American eats and delicious drafts and cocktails in a stylish, welcoming atmosphere. A new favorite in the popular Inman Park area.
What’s your style of cooking/cuisine? I feel like my style is always growing and expanding but I always start with my foundation of French, and I always try to do a twist on classics.
What do you see as a food trend right now? There are so many different cuisines and influences around Atlanta it can be hard to pinpoint certain influences, but there will always be a center around agriculture. People are continuing to understand the importance of eating locally and knowing where their food is coming from.
My Favorite (Spring) Cooking Ingredient I always enjoy cooking with ramps and rhubarb.
My Cooking Tip I always like to remind people that when reading a recipe, use it as a guideline not an absolute, (unless it’s baking, that is an exact science) use ingredients that you like, that are seasonal and make the dish your own.

Dance like You’re Straight By:Gregg Shapiro Let’s face it queer folks; dance music was never our exclusive domain. Attend an electronic dance music festival or concert, and you’re likely to see as many straight people as you’d see at the Vans Warped Tour. Our straight brothers and sisters are not only dancing to it in growing numbers; they’re making it, as well. You probably never imagined you’d be dancing to a Flaming Lips song, but you’d be wrong. Moving in a decidedly and daring electro direction on Oczy Mlody (Warner Brothers), The Flaming Lips blow a sizzling kiss towards the dance-floor. Partially the outcome of collaborating with Miley Cyrus (yes, her), who can be heard here on “We A Family,” these 12 songs move the band’s brand of psychedelic music into the 21st century and beyond. Even without a remixer’s pawprints on them, “Do Glowy” and “One Night While Hunting For Fairies and Witches and Wizards to Kill” are inviting dance tracks. Mostly glitchy and hazy, Oczy Mlody redefines the chill-out vibe and redefines everything you thought you knew about this always compelling band. Electronic music trio Future Islands ramps up the dance grooves heard on 2014’s brilliant Singles on the equally exhilarating The Far Fields (4AD). The dance beats are tantalizing, and the melodies are alluring, but Future Islands’ secret weapon is front-man Samuel T. Herring. No one else sounds quite like him or moves like him. His soulful and emotive vocals take every song to an entirely different level. Opener “Aladdin” is sure to rub dancers the right way. There is also a conscious variety to the throbbing dance beats and funky bass lines, exemplified by “Time On Her Side”, “Ran”, “North Star” and “Black Rose”. The radiant duet with Debbie Harry on “Shadows” is the proverbial cherry on top. Neko Case, of The New Pornographers, should be a dance diva, worshipped and adored by gay men around the globe. On Whiteout Conditions (Collected Works/Concord), she gets her chance. A Canadian band better known for its wonderful melding of classic and modern pop styles, The New Pornographers take a delightful detour with the 21st-century new wave update heard on this album. Most of the 11 thought-provoking songs, written by A.C. Newman, are driven by a combination of propulsive beats and synthetic keys. Songs including the title cut, “Play Money”, “High Tick-

et Attractions”, “Avalanche Alley”, “Juke” and “Clockwise”, featuring Case, who solos and shares vocal duties, will come through as well at a dance club as they do on listeners’ home sound systems. It doesn’t have to be salsa night at your favorite hangout for you to find a reason to dance to the songs on Tastes Like L.A. (lascafeteras.com) by Las Cafeteras. This mixed gender East L.A. band whose “party with a purpose” mission gives you something to think about in songs such as “If I Was President”, “Vamos to the Beach”, “Two More Days”, “Señor Presidente” and its rendition of “This Land Is Your Land”, while you dance. However, if your taste in dance music leans (or slams) more towards surf or garage rock, consider youthful punk band The Regrettes. Fueled by raw and riveting female energy – the band is made up of three women and one guy – The Regrettes’ debut album Feel Your Feelings Fool! (Warner Brothers) doesn’t mince words. Covering subjects to which people of all ages can relate, The Regrettes sing about social, sexual and personal issues on songs such as “A Living Human Girl”, “I Don’t Like You”, “Hey Now”, “Juicebox Baby”, “Hot” and “Ladylike/Whatta Bitch”. On their respective previous albums, Grouplove and Coin gave us the impression that they had an affinity for dance music. However, on their new releases, it seems as if both bands are attempting to distance themselves from the dance floor. “Welcome To Your Life”, the opening cut on Grouplove’s Big Mess (Canvasback/Atlantic) is more arena than club. You can dance to “Do You Love Someone” but it rocks enough to appeal to the fist-thrusters in the crowd. “Good Morning” is the one song sure to go directly to people’s hips, while the suggestive “Don’t Stop Making It Happen” has its funky charms. Here’s the biggest problem with Coin’s How Will You Know If You Never Try (Star Time/Columbia) – aside from the dreadful cover art and title – it sounds too generic. There’s nothing especially distinctive about any of the songs, most of which were written by committee (the four band members and sundry others). In the interest of finding something nice to say, “Are We Alone?” and “Miranda Beach” aren’t bad.
The Flaming Lips perform on March 5 in Athens at the Georgia Theatre.
Manwich
Or How to Feed a Hunger That is Never Satisfied By Scott King
Is a manwhich a sandwich made for a man, or a man made for a sandwich? Questions like this keep me up at night while I wait for the Tylenol PM to kick in. After I have sex, I am happy for no reason for at least 14 hours. Don’t misread me; I’m good to go again. It just feels, for half a day, like things are going to be okay. The ennui, the angst, they vanish into thin air like the notifications screen on your phone when you hit ALL CLEAR. After sex, I can go 30 minutes without checking Facebook. Would I lie to you? But then it’s back: lust. Beautiful, poetic, prosaic, horny and exquisite, lust. Profound in its depths, banal in its ubiquitousness, lust. Do you ever catch yourself checking out a hot guy and then notice, with your peripheral vision, some other scrub doing the same? I do. It dampens my excitement when I realize I’m not the only Angela Chase in the room. Where have all the Jordan Catelanos gone? There’s a reason they call it beast mode. Sometimes I think I go to the gym just so I can eat. A lot. Not because I’m afraid that all the studfinders ain’t gonna call no fat gurl, but because I love the feeling of fueling up and fueling down. It’s a type of indulgence you know. Indulging in overeating, indulging in over-exercising. Indulging in being too big for your britches and too sexy for your oops I did it again not-so-accidentally snug-fit retro classic tee. Indulging in the vain pursuit of wanting men, women and domesticated animals to turn their heads when you walk by. We’re only human, after all. And humans are basically apes, with better hygiene. Did you know that the modern English word “appetite” is actually ancient Latin for “ape titties?” I’m a total breast man I can dig it. “Ap*pe*tite” - noun. “A natural desire to satisfy a bodily need, especially food.” Hunger for sex is as natural as hunger for food, and, in modern life, it is equally conducive to perversion and chronic mental disability. I ain’t no psychiatrist; I ain’t no doctor with degrees. But it don’t take too much IQ to follow these tips from me: IT’S ONLY NATURAL

Word on the street is, even women whose vaginas have fallen out want it. Whatever it is. Don’t judge yourself, Judy. God made you gay and insatiable for a reason. I hear she makes no mistakes. LOVE MAKES SEX, BUT SEX DOES NOT MAKE LOVE During season 1 of HBO’s “Six Feer Under,” the semi-closeted David Fischer is talking to a dead porn star, like you do. She asks him if he thinks God cares if he has sex with men. Even a lot of men. David says, “I think God appreciates it when love is involved.” At this, the wise and prematurely deceased actress quips, “Oh, honey. I loved every man I ever fucked while I was fucking him.” Touché, but still. WHILE she was. Not afterwards. Not forevermore. Not with enough force or volume to fill a person up, spiritually. Only you can do that. Or your higher power. Or your family or your friends or your loved ones or your religion or your faith or your faithful master shaman. You see where I’m going with this? Good. WHY WAIT? If he’s cute, go for it. Don’t worry about what other people will think or what you thought you’d be watching on telly tonight. Listen to your heart listen to your soul listen to your mind listen to your body. If three out of four say yes, then just do it. Him. SAY YES OR SAY NO Every relationship needs to breathe. This includes your relationship with yourself. That’s why you get out of the house: to get out of your head. This also includes your relationship with your lovers and with self-love wink wink. It’s okay to give it a rest every once in a while. Life may be a buffet, but you don’t always have to go back for seconds. It’s okay to stop eating when you’re full. Bon appetite!

Top is tight, bottom’s loose, and I’m feeling skinny! Asking for a friend: Treating someone you don’t like nicely just means you are well-mannered, right?
Me: Summer’s coming up fast – I should probably start eating better.
To me drinking responsibly is not spilling my drink
Life: Girl Scouts selling cookies outside the gym tonight.
That moment you realize he is literally half your age and he’s in his mid-twenties…
If you’re mad at someone, make sure they care first before you waste all that unnecessary energy! That’s all.
I like I’m in my 40s, and I can still turn a few heads at the gym – especially when I do squats.

ARIES (MAR. 21 - APR. 19)
LIBRA (SEP. 23 - OCT. 22)
Today you may feel a passionate attraction for someone intelligent who perhaps makes a living in law, education, or publishing this week. Conversations with this person could touch on some deep issues, such as spiritual matters, the human psyche, or the nature of the universe. You should be deeply affected, not only by the person but also by the subjects. Wait till after Pride to clear your head.
You might have to play nurse this week. A love partner could claim to feel unwell, and you might expend a lot of energy trying to make your friend feel better. Don’t overdo it. There may be psychological factors at work. Your friend could be jealous of the attention you’ve been giving your other friends. Be attentive, but within limits!
TAURUS (APR. 20 - MAY 20)
SCORPIO (OCT. 23 - NOV. 21)
This could be a quiet week for you and your partner. Or you could spend some time reflecting on past achievements and future goals. It’s important to get a clear picture about the past so you can draw conclusions and make workable plans. If you have a family, you’ll probably be interested in activities that everyone will enjoy. Make some time to get together. Leave tension behind.
You’re generally focused on the material world, but something about the energy generated by your planetary alignments causes you to look within. You might think about the joys and pains of past Prides and wonder how they affect your life now. This is a positive, healing process, so don’t fight it. It won’t interfere with what’s going on around you.
GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUN. 20)
SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 22 - DEC. 21)
All the positive energy generated by the celestial atmosphere seems to come together this week as you experience a rush of sensual passion for a romantic partner. An unexpected encounter could not only fulfill this desire but also bring you closer. If you aren’t already committed, expect to discuss it soon. Be careful to exercise restraint. Your lover could panic if you push too hard.
A group event like Pride could put you in contact with a number of people interested in doing a healing meditation for the planet. This sort of activity can work wonders to strengthen the bond among those performing it. You might not talk much during the discussions, but you’re apt to be in total agreement with the idea. Enjoy your weekend.
CANCER (JUN. 21 - JUL. 22)
CAPRICORN (DEC. 22 - JAN. 19)
The arrival of a surprise visitor for Pride could generate mixed feelings. On the one hand, you’re probably glad to resume contact with this person. On the other, because you weren’t expecting this guest, it could create extra work for you - as if you didn’t already have enough on your plate! Recruit others to help with necessary tasks so you can enjoy your weekend.
Happiness reigns in the home as everyone feels the energy changing. It seems that the end of one cycle brings closure, and now you’re free to start a new journey of rebirth. You, above all, are apt to feel a powerful rush of intuition, which could reveal positive events coming up for you and those close to you. A few doubts may cloud your impressions, but let them go.
LEO (JUL. 23 - AUG. 22)
AQUARIUS (JAN. 20 - FEB. 18)
Someone who’s been ill and perhaps undergone surgery might phone you this weekend. You could invite this person to join you for a little social gathering we call Pride. Several people could be involved. All of them will have some interesting and useful information to offer. Natives of Leo in particular might attract your attention. Enjoy your day.
Are you going to go away soon? If not, you may be planning a trip for another month, perhaps going for educational purposes, such as to attend a workshop. You might have agreed to some overseas business travel. You should feel especially energetic, enthusiastic, and optimistic now. You’ve done well thanks to your diligent work, and you should continue on that path.
VIRGO (AUG. 23 - SEP. 22)
PISCES (FEB. 19 - MAR. 20)
With the planetary atmosphere this week, your sensual nature is in full bloom. If there’s a romantic partner nearby, that person should be on guard! There will be a lot of other people around this weekend, so a chance to be alone probably won’t present itself until the end of the weekend. If you don’t connect with a potential partner, at least you’ll have a good time. Hang in there and be patient!
Instinct and determination drive you toward unconventional plans for making money. A finance counselor or other professional could be involved. You may see this as an opportunity to restore your ailing bank account. You may have future purchases in mind, perhaps even a new home. Consider your plans carefully before going ahead. You’ll want to be sure it’s what you need.

WHAT happened was . . .
What Happened Was... Trouble in the love department? With sex? Or just people in general? Send us your queries, questions, and problems, and we’ll give you the answers served straight up and with a little ice. I have identified as gay for several years now, but I’m beginning to think that I may be bi. I fantasize just as much about girls as I do boys, and my last crush was definitely a girl. Problem is that when I try telling my friends, they make fun of me, and call me homophobic – but I’m really not. I just like girls too! How can I change their minds and live my truth?
Sincerely Bi-Millenial Dear Bi-Millenial Coming to terms with your sexuality can be hard, and sometimes we gravitate towards social structures that are known to us. Even though you may be bi-sexual, your immediate instinct was to identify as gay, because, although not simple, it was easier for you. So, now you have to convince your ‘gay world’ that you are not strictly homosexual or monosexual – and that can definitely be difficult! First of all, don’t let anyone dictate what your sexuality should be. Your preference and who you are attracted to is entirely your thing! Next up, you need to talk to your friends about what labels they are almost forcibly putting on you. You may still be figuring out what is going on with you, so ask them to be a little more tactful and respectful about your situation – it’s the least they can do if they are your true friends.
I recently met this great guy, and we hang out a lot. As in a LOT! I really, really enjoy spending time with him, but my friends are starting to become impatient with me because I haven’t seen them in months. It’s just I want to spend my every waking moment with my man, and I forget everything around me when I’m with him (even texting back oops). How do I spend time with my man and my friends?
Sincerely His Eyes Only
Dear His Eyes Only Well, that’s easy; you combine the two worlds! Needless to say, your friends are being heavily neglected right now, and that’s not fair to them, because the will melt away like snow on a hot spring day if you don’t take care of them. Sure, you’re in the throes of being in love right now, but what happens when the initial passion dies down, and you have a need to share your great love story? Guess, who won’t be there to lend an ear – your friends! It’s wonderful that you have met someone you are truly compatible with but for your own and your friends’ sake; dial down the obsessive behavior just a smidge and leave the door open so your friends can come back into your life.
I recently bought a sex toy, and it is doing all the things to me to a point where I would prefer that over the real thing. My partner of many years has noticed this, but I’m almost addicted to that little whirr and spin it does, so every day when I get home from work, I take it for another whirl which leaves me uninterested to my hubby’s advances later on that night. I want to be a good (sex) partner, but I just can’t let my little, supercharged friend alone. What do I do?
Sincerely Dilf-Do Dear Dilf-Do Exploring your sexuality with sex toys is great – especially if it takes you to new heights. But you have to be a little bit more considerate to your partner, especially if you have had a healthy sex life so far. Why don’t you hold off on using your magical friend this afternoon and wait until your partner comes home, and then show him just how wild it makes you. Betcha, he will think that’s hot too. From there it is just incorporating the sex toy(s) into your sex life even more, and you’ll both be rushing home to get your little sexcapades going! NEED ANSWERS? REACH OUT TO US, AND YOU WILL GET THEM! SEND YOUR BURNING QUESTIONS VIA OUR EDITOR AT MIKKEL@PEACHATL.COM.
