Whether you have shaving fatigue or want to see if you can grow a full beard in a month, No-Shave November or “Movember” is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. But you don’t need to let it grow wild and unkempt – with the right tools and products; you will look gorgeous all month.
What’s No Shave November? ‘Movember’ or ‘No-Shave November’ asks men worldwide not to shave for a month to raise awareness for prostate cancer, men’s mental health, and well-being. It is also the chance to show off your facial hair and test if you look good in a mustache, goatee, or ducktail.
It is vital to keep your beard clean, but it is essential to ensure that the skin beneath is clean and hydrated. The logical choice would be to use your shampoo for your beard (I mean, it’s hair, right?), but that’s not the best way to go as it can strip both beard and skin of essential oils. So wash your beard with your face wash instead to make sure you don’t strip the skin.
Brushing or combing your beard regularly makes it appear neater and more styled. It also stimulates hair follicles and distributes lotions and oils more evenly into the beard. Use a wooden comb to avoid static and a boar bristle brush if you’re a pro.
Remember that thing about not drying out the skin beneath the beard? Using a lotion on your beard will hydrate your beard and the skin, so it doesn’t dry out because, yes, there is such a thing as beard dandruff.
Beard oil is a great way to nourish the beard deeply and naturally moisturize the skin. It also works as a great final styling product which adds shine and makes the beard appear smoother and more groomed.
If you want to tame unruly hairs and frizz, beard wax is the way to go. A wax lets you style your beard in a little more detail as you would your hair. Like with the oil, the wax will make the beard look smoother and well-groomed.
A beard roller or derma roller is an effective way to stimulate hair growth if you feel you need to fill out gaps in your beard. A derma roller creates micro punctures in the skin, which causes the blood to rush to the area, boosting hair growth and activating dormant follicles. A couple of minutes a couple of times a week does the trick.
Once you have reached your beard goal, it’s time to trim it in shape. Use a trimmer to cut length, frizzy, flyaway hairs and create a defined neckline. It is also a good idea to trim around the lips so your lips aren’t covered by beard. If you’re in doubt, have a pro barber help you shape up your beard.
Fall is here and with it a slew of events and parties that give you the chance to give back to your community – and all you have to do is party! We spoke to key Atlanta organizations about their mission, and how you can support them simply by partying with a purpose.

Positive Impact Health Centers provides client-centered care for the HIV community to have a life worth loving. Their Party With Impact! raises funds for AIDS services and prevention in Atlanta, and Peach spoke to Olivia Chelko, VP of Development and Communications, about goals, awareness, and who will be on stage for the night.
Your Party With Impact! has had numerous iterations over the years. This year, it’s a comedy show. Can you tell us more about what is in store at the event?
Party With Impact changes every year. We do art auctions, comedy shows, and concerts. A few years ago, we did a comedy show with Leslie Jordan at Center Stage for the event.
This year, we are thankful that Sam Jay has agreed to come to Atlanta and do a show to raise money for HIV services and prevention in Atlanta.
Sam Jay is a stand-up comic and Emmy-nominated writer (Saturday Night Live). She hosts and executive produces HBO’s Pause with Sam Jay, a weekly latenight series currently in production for its second season. In 2020, she debuted her first Netflix onehour stand-up special, Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning. Up next, she is on the Peacock series Bust Down.
Why is throwing a big party or having an event like this an excellent way to raise money?
We always have event sponsors that cover the costs of events. Ticket sales for this event go directly to PIHC services and care. This event also helps bring in individuals that might need services but need to learn about the work of our agency. Our goal is to raise 75K for needed HIV care in Atlanta. It also educates the community and those in the room about our services in metro Atlanta.
Positive Impact Health Centers has done some fantastic work this year to provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS and curb the MPX outbreak. How did you achieve all this?
We are incredibly proud to have never closed our doors during COVID. We had to adjust how services were received but also accelerated many new programs – like Telemedicine, Condoms by Mail, and free HIV home testing kits. Incredibly proud of the staff and their work during syndemics - HIV, COVID-19, Monkeypox, Substance Abuse, and Mental Health.
We always are looking for people to join our AIDS Walk Team and AIDS Vaccine 200 Cycle Team every year. You can find more ways to volunteer on our website – PIHCga.org.
The event will be on 12/2 at 8 pm at Variety Playhouse. You can purchase tickets at the box office and avoid ticketing fees or do so on the Variety Playhouse website, variety-playhouse.com.

Since 1990 PALS has provided ongoing care and support to the pets of Atlanta area persons living with critical illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and cancer, the disabled, and the elderly. David Lile, an active volunteer with PALS, talked to Peach about what to expect somewhere over the rainbow and at the end of the yellow brick road.
The Fur Ball Masquerade is back! This year, it’s Wizard of Oz themed. Can you share what else you have in store for us all at the event?
The planning committee is pulling out all the stops with theme decor and entertainment. There will be a wine pull where for $25, you can purchase a numbered bottle and win a good everyday or special occasion bottle of wine or even a commemorative Lady Gaga Dom Perignon! There will also be a silent auction. I help PALS secure signed playbills and posters from Broadway Cares each year, and they have several hotel stays, signed original art pieces, pet baskets, gift certificates, and other unique items. It’s a great opportunity to do some holiday shopping, all for a great cause!
What do you hope to achieve with this year’s Fur Ball Masquerade to Oz?
To celebrate the healing power of the humananimal bond. Dorothy and Toto were separated in Oz, but with the help of a colorful and very caring cast of characters, they were reunited. We want everyone to know that this is the work of PALS.
Our Drag Queen Bingo is our most beloved event. On November 8, the theme is Rocky Horror, and on December 13, we celebrate the “Holidaze.” As you know, LIPS always has overthe-top décor installations for the holidays, so these next two months will be spectacular. Add to that performances by our drag queens Ericka Lee, Desiree Storm, Justice, and Charmaine St. Clare, and $1100 in bingo payouts; you get the best value in town for a $20 ticket. Plus, I am known as “Dave the Ball Guy,” and I have the pleasure of pulling the balls at our Bingo event. Who can resist seeing that! PALS also operates a low-cost pet vaccination clinic at our Chandler Park office, and we will have one on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
How can the community get involved with PALS Atlanta?
Please support us by attending our event. PALS has been a volunteer-driven organization for the past 33 years. We need volunteers to help us at the office or community outreach events or deliver pet food. We are a small and lean nonprofit that does a lot of work. We also have some board positions available. We need compassionate people to provide our service to those in need for another 33 years!
How can we attend the 2002 Fur Ball Masquerade to Oz?
Tickets are available now at a special price of $100 VIP and $75 General Admission. Price includes full premium open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, souvenir mask, gift bag, and valet parking. You can get tickets at palsatlanta.org.
We’re obsessed with your bingo nights at Lips – what are the upcoming themes?

AID Atlanta is not only commemorating their 40th anniversary with one event. According to Jon Santos, Director of Fundraising and Events for AID Atlanta, the whole year has been a celebration of the oldest AIDS service organization in the Southeastern United States. And the celebration continues until the year closes out.
This year is the 40th Anniversary of AID Atlanta. How have you celebrated this momentous occasion?
The entire year has been a celebration of the AID Atlanta Family. Those who were visionary to found our organization, the staff—past, present, and future—who work so hard for our clients and patients, and those who support us. We have had a Groovy Skate Party, AID Atlanta Day in the City of Atlanta, Fulton County Commission and with a special Resolution Honoring AID Atlanta in the Georgia State House of Representatives. We participated in new and exciting ways for us in AIDS Walk Atlanta and Atlanta Pride and are culminating the year with our 40th Anniversary Celebration on November 12th, and our World AIDS Day commemoration on December 1st
Since 1982, AID Atlanta’s mission has remained the same: provide HIV/AIDS-related services, care, and education. But a lot has changed in 40 years – can you talk about those changes?
Known primarily as a center providing confidential HIV testing, we also provide STI testing and treatment, Prep and PEP therapy and prevention education. Science and medication have been the greatest drivers of change. The advances of the last 40 years are that we have a single daily pill (and now even injectable medications) that can help someone living with HIV become virally suppressed. This means HIV does not replicate in their body, and mostly they cannot pass HIV onto another person. Due to medical advances and research, ARV medication can also be taken in PrEP therapy as a measure to prevent new HIV infections. There is still no cure for HIV, but we have certainly many more viable options for treatment now than we did in the 80s and 90s.
What are some of the major milestones from the past 40 years?
When you are the first at creating something there is information you have, and then you learn that there is something better and you must change. Being nimble is the hallmark of the organization because in the beginning we did not know so much about HIV/AIDS.
AID Atlanta developed the case management model to provide supportive care and assistance to clients which was then replicated across the nation and was the basis for today’s medical case management. Providing an Information Hotline that is staffed to answer questions about HIV, AIDS, safer sex practices. Affiliating with AHF has been a great hallmark as the relationship for AID Atlanta is the best of all worlds. AHF knows how to run health care centers and pharmacies and our exponential patient growth since 2015 is attributed to AHF’s expertise and generosity.
What are some milestones you expect to reach looking forward?
I expect AID Atlanta to have a great deal of effort spent on housing and housing assistance for people living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS, either directly or indirectly. Safe, affordable housing is one of the greatest indicators of whether someone will take their medication, achieve viral suppression, and remain in care.
How can the community get involved with AID Atlanta?
First and foremost, Get Tested and/or each one brings one! It is free and it is confidential. The key to getting a handle on HIV/AIDS is valuable information about our personal health. Second, please attend our fundraising events, including our 40th Anniversary Celebration, and third, join our team for AIDS Walk Atlanta & Music Festival next year. This remains our greatest fund and friend-raising events.
… and how do we attend the 40th Anniversary celebration?
Go to aidatlanta.org/anniversary to get tickets!
Anything you would like to add?
AID Atlanta was founded by a group of friends who answered the questions “If not now, when? If not us, then Who?” The last four decades have had challenges and opportunities, but we remain grassroots, community-based Atlanta organization that is a part of our community. At this time, we are very grateful to the AID Atlanta family who supports us in this important and life-saving work. THANK YOU, ATLANTA!

For The Kid’s Toy Party is one of the most anticipated parties of the holiday season. Since its 2003 inception, the fundraising event has collected and raised funds for over 65,000 toys for more than 20 beneficiaries. Current board president, Stacy Brown, aims to collect another 5,000 toys at this year’s events, which will be held at the Biltmore Ballrooms again this year.
The Toy Party is coming up in December, always a highlight of the holiday season. Can you share what you have in store for us all?
Toy Party is Sunday, December 11, at the Biltmore Ballrooms, and the board is working hard to repeat last year’s success and make this year’s party even better. Returning this year is Atlanta’s very own Phoenix and the Fantasy Girls with a very special surprise guest. Of course, we have specialty cocktail drinks, VIP hour, our fabulous silent auction, and much more.
The Toy Party is the biggest event of the year for FTK. What makes this event so important? Not only does FTK collect and distribute toys and backpacks each year, but we form lasting relationships between friends, family, and the community. We at FTK love seeing everyone bring their toys for kids and the excitement it brings. This event is more than just a party to gather and have fun; it’s about opening our hearts and doing a little extra for someone.
Toy Party raises funds and collects toys for children in need all over metro Atlanta – how many toys are you aiming to collect this year?
Our goal is to collect 5,000 toys and distribute them to our beneficiaries that serve families in need for the holiday season. We work with over 20 have over 20 beneficiaries, including AID Atlanta, Dr. Annise Mabry Foundation, Chris 180, Jerusalem House, East Lake Foundation, and many more.
Do you have any other upcoming events this year?
Yes! On Saturday, December 3, 2022, at The Hideaway, More To Love ATL will return with Gag the Grinch benefitting FTK. Last year was so much fun, and the MTL crew went all out to raise money and collect toys for FTK.
How can the community get involved with For The Kid?
We need volunteers to help make Toy Party 2022 successful. Please email us at volunteers@ forthekid.org to get involved!
How can we attend the 2022 Toy Party?

So awkward! I went on a date with a guy, and the night ended with some making out but nothing more, and I wanted to see him again. But afterwards, I was horny, so I went to a sex club for some cruising – and that’s where I bump into my date! It was so awkward, and we ended up just avoiding each other. So I finished my business and got out! I’m so embarrassed about the whole thing, and I just don’t know what to do! I like him, but is this a date breaker?
You had the perfect opportunity for a shortcut to an even better connection by acknowledging that you prob ably share some of the same sexual appetites. Instead, you ignored not only each other but the glaring fact that you were both there at the same spot to get off because you had been sexually charged by the amazing date you both just went on. And instead of interacting with each other, you kind of scurried off after you got what you came for. So yes, this situation is awkward and not the best, but there is a small window of op portunity if you reach out to him – text, call, email – and simply acknowledge the awkwardness and that you both could have handled the situation better. Maybe, if you can laugh off the silliness and insecurity, you can start over somehow and go on another date where you are more honest about what you really want.
