As an editor and social media manager I have worked closely with Gay Naturists International to implement new ways of gathering during the Covid-19 pandemic. My hope is to make Peach more inclusive and give seats at the table to as many people as possible through features, interviews and community engagement. I want to offer the opportunity to different gender expressions for Peach of the Week, feature new events around town and include new ways to enjoy life around ATL "post-COVID".

HOT BOi SUMMER IS HERE! LET’S PEAK TOGETHER by Mikey Rox Our lady friends have been hittin’ summer hard for a couple years now. Megan Thee Stallion made sure of that. But thanks to Instagram and TikTok, our brethren – yes, even them straight boys – have been showin’ up and showin’ out in shorter shorts and croppier crop tops. With Covid restrictions coming to an end, there’s no rest for the weary in 2021. Peak hot boi summer starts now. Here’s how.
Pick up a few good vacay (or any day) reads to pack in your bags this summer. I’m concentrating on nonfiction adventure stories and witty memoirs this season – like The Wild Truth by Carine McCandless (a companion book to Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild – but anything that keeps your synapses firing is fair game, including this magazine.
Stimulate your body and mind
One of my favorite ways to make new friends and break a sweat simultaneously is by participating in social sports leagues. Most cities have an organization or two based on the concept of mixing intramural sports with post-game barhopping. Over the years, I’ve joined dodgeball, kickball, cornhole, bowling, and trivia leagues. Not all of them were LGBTQ+ focused, but I’ve never minded watching beefy breeders toss balls around, and I’m guessing you won’t either.
Sign up for a social sports league
I’m not the only one who’s put on the Covid 19. Many of us are softer around the middle after a year of isolation. But donuts be damned, I’m getting back into shape if it kills me (and it just might). I’ve cut out sugar completely, I force myself to hit the gym daily, and I’ve started an intermittent fasting regimen with only eight hours of feeding per day. Don’t follow my lead, though. Get back to the body you love however you see fit. What matters most is that you get moving again – and finally Pick up a pair of killer shades put the past 14 months behind you. Clothing and accessories don’t Keep your wits about you, too. make the man, but they can make 12 | follow us @ peachatlmag

the man more confident. Like a great pair of sunglasses, for instance – preferably ones with mirrored lenses made to scope out eye candy more stealthily. My higher-end collection includes polarized pairs from Persol, Ray-Ban, and Versace, but I’m also a fan of more accessible styles, like the playful new Shark Week shades from Knockaround that retail for a digestible $35.
help. Do a little digging – literally – by investigating a neighborhood beautification committee. I spent time planting flowers, erecting greenhouses, and designing parks for a group that dedicates itself to improving dilapidated spots around town when I lived in New Jersey. Most communities have something similar and they’re all eager to accept your altruism.
Strut your stuff in shorter shorts
Travel by automobile
Queer men are no strangers to short shorts, but this summer we’re going even shorter. Five-and-a-half inches is the standard for “short” shorts, but this year sky’s-out-thighs-out outfitters like Chubbies are taking the hems higher to a better-wearbriefs-underneath length of just four inches. No free-ballin’ in these bad boys unless you want a summons for indecent dick-posure. Pierce your ears and paint your nails
train,
plane
and
Traveling outside the confines of the four walls you’ve been staring at for the past year is feasible now that mass vaccinations are underway. Schedule a road trip to a national park, hop on a plane to somewhere you’ve never been, or book a ticket for a once-in-a-lifetime crosscountry Amtrak adventure. I’ve done the latter several times, and it’s never cost for more than $500 to ride the rails from sea to shining sea. If that stimulus and unemployment money is still burning a hole in your pocket, now’s the time to treat yourself. You’ll be back in the office soon anyway; might as well have one last hurrah.
Stick a few crystals in your lobes and gloss up your digits. I recently had a few of my nails painted for my 40th birthday. Am I having a midlife crisis? Maybe. But do my fingers look fire? Absolutely. By Jamie Kirk It’s time. Period. No more excuses. Turn off the coronavirus daily count on the TV. Stop whining about the impact of the second vaccine. Get out of the sweatpants and ratty college T-shirts. The weather is getting warmer, the mood is not so heavy, and people are generally a little bit nicer right now. It’s about to be the summer, where every day should feel like Sunday Funday. Put on your shorts, tanks, and swim trunks, and start enjoying the next six months of decent-to-awesome weather. We can take more selfies by the pool, go on more hikes or walks with the kids, and just hang out on the patio and take in some vitamin D. Summer is simply the most amazing time of the year, and not just because of the weather. Each of the other three seasons seem to carry a certain negative connotation. For winter, other than the holidays, the days are short, cold, and seem dreadful. The spring, even though it is a time of rejuvenation and rebirth, the pollen count per day makes you feel like your eyes are on fire and your head is about to explode. And then there’s fall, which is so very lackluster. There’s a few holidays, but the real highlight of fall is Halloween. But that’s just one evening of ghost, witches and spiked cider. Summer is refreshing and gives us a chance to try new things, go new places and take on new challenges. Maybe it’s time to spice up the food menu by barbecuing every Wednesday for dinner, walking the Beltline daily for lunch, or doing yoga on a rooftop. Change is good and sometimes great. Being able to shake your routine upside-down can do wonders for your mood. I can fully understand that consistency in our schedules is ideal, but mixing up our routine can have benefits also.
year. It can still be a little hectic and overwhelming. It’s important to take time out for ourselves. Get a massage. Walk in the park. Join a book club or explore an activity that brings you joy and allows you to recharge. It is imperative that we keep our tanks full so that we can be more present in all other aspects of our lives. I know summer is such a light-hearted time, but the upcoming months may not be easy-breezy by default. We have to be intentional about our approach to be at ease and available. Turn off social media for a certain period of time. Monitor your screen time and be conscientious about unplugging when possible. Outside of client issues, babysitting emergencies, or fraud alerts from a credit card, turning off the phone will not cause the sky to fall. And taking it one step further, you can announce when you are disconnecting and give people a fair warning regarding your unavailability. Life is about showing up and being present, not about remaining available at a moment’s notice and being distracted as you pretend to be present. Technology is great. Family and friends are great. Taking in the outdoors with other Atlantans is great. Cooking summer dishes is great. But the greatest gift we can give ourselves this summer is to be present for it. Not allowing this summer to fly by us like the unforgettable summer of 2020. This summer we have to be aware that it is happening to us and not through us.
We need to concentrate on the lessons we learned during the pandemic and apply them to our daily lives. We cannot allow ourselves to get distracted. We have many, many, months to make up. We can make these months up by being productive and focusing our energies on living in the moment. Living in the moment by which we take stock of what is going on in our lives and how it makes us feel. Staying committed to how our I realize many of us are on significant overload, lives look from the outside is not as important as kid overload, and Zoom-meeting overload. Our how it makes us feel on the inside. passports have been underutilized for the past 14 months, and many of us only needed one oil change last year. However, taking a trip with friends and family might be just what the doctor ordered. According to a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, people who devote time to friends and family are overall happier than those who Jamie Kirk works in Marketing for don’t. the tickets. Remember, though, when she is gone to the games and you get jelly that she’s going with someone else you CAN’T complain. My suggestion is suck it up, buttercup, and do this for your partner as the brownie points will come in handy later on. Dear Lesbo,
I am so tired of the traffic in midtown from all the construction. My normal commute of seven miles used to take 15 minutes. Now I’m in the car for over 30 minutes. My question is do I invest in a scooter to zip through town or do I ask the boss to work from home and do a flex schedule? My fear I really want to thank everyone for your is my boss is old school and flex to him is me support. I especially thank the man at Kroger showing him my six-pack stomach. that asked me for my autograph. I felt like a -Traffic Tornado movie star. Keep reading, pretties, and keep Dear Tornado, sending me your questions. Wow – what a week! Gas lines are like toilet paper lines. It’s all kind of ridiculous. If you’re in line for gas, be nice, be helpful and smile. If someone tries to jump the line, be careful – these fools may shoot you for GAS.
Dear Lesbo, I am a strong butch lesbian and I’m not much into sports like soccer or football. My girlfriend, who is not as butch as I am, is into all sports and loves watching or going to games. My question is simple: she wants to buy season passes for the Falcons, but I think it’s a complete waste of money. How do I tell her? -Salty to Sports
I promise you traffic is not getting any better in the next three years. Actually, it may get worse. Try the scooter as showing off your six-pack will only start some trouble on both your parts. Explain a flex schedule and slightly remind him of this weekly. In time he will get it and I promise that you will appreciate not using your body for things. Be careful on the scooter as zipping through town can be dangerous.
Remember, all the answers are my own opinion. The publisher and editor may not share my opinion. Keep these questions I understand your dilemma. However, I coming as I love to answer them. Have a believe there could be a happy medium great week and be safe out there. here. Do you believe it’s a waste of money because of costs for passes, or is it because If you have a question for Lesbo, please you truly have no interest in going? First, send to askthelesbo@peachatl.com. All remember a happy WIFE is a happy LIFE. If answers are my own and come straight from it’s that you don’t want to go to games, just my heart. tell her you have no interest in going and ask her to choose a friend to share the cost and Dear Salty,

peach of the week Realtor, influencer and entrepreneur Darryl McNeil – owner of Atlantabased real estate agency Kinetic Homes – has been helping Black and LGBTQ+ buyers find their forever homes for about 15 years. Let’s get to know him. Peach Magazine: Who are you? Darryl McNeil: I’m an entrepreneur and marketing professional, originally from Philadelphia. I’m the youngest of four, and I have a passion for the African-American and LGBTQ+ communities in the Atlanta area. I’ve been married [to my husband] for eight years. I have an addiction to the Investigation Discovery channel; my favorite show is See No Evil. I have an English bulldog named Philly. He’s lazy, doesn’t like to go too many places. [Laughs] PM: How long have you been in real estate? DM: Since 2007. I’m licensed in New Jersey, where I used to live, and I’ve been licensed in Atlanta for about 3 years. PM: I’m interested in buying, but I’m not sure I’m ready. What should I do? DM: First thing to do is get your finances in order. Understand your credit and your score; identify any issues with it and get it into shape. Identify where you want to live to ensure that your price point matches your interest. Finally, you want to get a kick-ass
realtor – like me – to help you through the process. PM: I know a ton of realtors. Why should I choose you? DM: For me it’s more than a transaction. I have a passion for the clients I serve. I give a damn that they find a home they love for the long term, and I love making connections with people in the city. Lastly, I’m pretty damn likeable. I can grab a drink with you. I’m just like you. We’re cut from the same cloth. My slogan is ‘Helping Our Community Get Home,’ and I understand the challenges that come with that. For example, I understand the culture from an African-American experience, where we want to live. I’m a realtor who understands the history of the city and the changing identity of the Afro-American community. When I’m dealing with LGBTQ+ clients, I understand the difference between his and hers walk-in closets versus his and his or hers and hers. Those little things make a big difference. PM: What are the opportunities now for the everyday buyer? DM: You can borrow more for less. That’s the key. People who couldn’t buy before can now afford it. I’m not sure how long that’s gonna last. Knowing you can get a home now is more realistic now than 12 to 15 months ago. The job market is changing and more hiring is coming through. The opportunities to support your income are more plentiful than they were prepandemic. To learn more about Darryl McNeil and Kinetic Homes, visit Kinetic-Homes.com

Wear your mask if you wish, or take it off if you wish. You have to remember though that the CDC guidelines do not apply to businesses. They can make their own decisions as to whether or not they will continue enforcing mask rules. Non-vaccinated people either haven’t gotten the vaccine because of their own lack of effort or they don’t believe in it. Atlanta has been very fortunate in the vaccine rollout so there really is no excuse anymore, locally. If anti-vaxxers decide to chance their fate with the mutations going around by removing their masks, so be it. Notice that the focus has shifted from a protect the community mindset, to a protect yourself one because of the widespread access to vaccines. You can only protect yourself and those you love close to you. What the rest of the population does is out of your control.

In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, Peach will be breaking up our Top 10 into twoweeks. Five here, five there. There’s just so much to feature! But this week we are taking a look at some movies and shows that feature the AAPI experience or are written and produced by AAPI individuals. Parasite: Quite possibly the most acclaimed films of 2019, the South Korean film Parasite follows the lives of multiple poor family members who infiltrate a wealthy home posing as various highly qualified individuals. The film grossed over $230 million worldwide with a production budget of $15 million and won four major awards at the 92nd Academy Awards, making it the first non-English film to win Best Picture. (Available on HULU) The Mindy Project - Developed by and starring Mindy Kaling, the show follows Dr. Mindy Laheiry. A lovable and neurotic doctor living in Manhattan, Dr. L lives her life with the dream that she will find “the one” in the same fashion as her favorite Rom-Com movies. Battling with the never ending judgement of females in the workplace, Dr. L normalizes and lightens the conversation around genderprejudice while battling her own insecurities around her ethnic background, relationship frustrations and constant need to be “right”. (Available on HULU) PEN15 - This cringe worthy comedy about middle school trials and tribulations is a millennial nightmare! Writers Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle play younger versions of themselves set in the early 2000s. The show depicts the day to day of entering middle school, exploring their sexuality, experiencing drinking and drugs, and the rough patches that can happen between best friends as times and hormones change. Maya deals with her stern and loving mother, while Anna deals with her parents impending divorce. The show will hit home in ways you could never imagine for anyone who remembers Lisa Frank, see through corded phones, and your first AIM screen name. (Available on HULU) Superstore - Centered around the life of associates at big corporation superstore Cloud 9, the show follows Amy (America Ferrera) as she navigates a new employee (Jonah) and their interactions with co-workers as romance develops. One standout character however is Mateo; a fun-loving but snarky gay Asian associate who has quips and quirks throughout the development of the show. As we follow his journey, we learn Mateo truly wants love and we experience his struggle trying to find the right one in the midst of daily Cloud 9 chaos. (Available on HULU) Never Have I Ever - Also developed by Mindy Kaling, Never Have I Ever focuses on the life of Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan); a young high school sophomore who recently lost her father and hopes the remaining time in high school is a “sexy high school experience”. Much like PEN15, the story centers around rich female friendships and the desire to assimilate into “American” culture, while deep rooted familial ties to religious upbringing gets in the way. It’s time to look and reflect within, Taurus. You’re a hard worker but you don’t handle your feelings well. There’s going to be troubles at work and home but you need to take a step back and reflect on how you’re going to react to the situation. Try to be as rational as possible.
Have you thought about expanding your circle, Gemini? It might be time to find a new circle of friends through exploring new activities. Maybe you join softball or you get together with some local artists and compare notes. Either way, it’s time to be more social and enjoy open and honest communication with others. Take a look at your actions, Cancer. You have the opportunity to adapt to situations around you this week. People are going to need advice and help from you, and you can use your skill set to really assist those around you. Make sure to take a step back and look at each potential outcome.
Involve your friends and family in your decision making, Leo. Go ahead and use your skills to teach and work with your friends and family. Teach them something new, something they might not know about you.The connection that you build with them will be much stronger when you let a piece of yourself show.
You need to try something new, Virgo. You tend to fall into the trap where you continuously do things that you know you are good at. Take a moment and see if there's something you've been afraid to try that you can experiment with this week. It can be anything!

Be aware of the example others are setting around you, Libra. You are often the one who rationalizes and thinks through everything, but this week you need to take a step back and breathe. You're going to be tested and the only way for you to get through this week is to follow other people's lead. People are going to doubt you this week, Scorpio. Your job is to ignore all the nay-sayers and continue on with the temperament and dedication that got you to where you are today. Go out and see the world. Try something new this week. Again, people will say you cannot do such a thing, but you need to prove them wrong. You have a choice to make this week, Sagittarius. The choice will either be to spend time with those around you or to spend time alone. You're going to weigh the pros and cons to all of the possible outcomes and go from there, but what is most important is how you reflect on that time postactivities. Use this as a growing experience and time for reflection.
You've been working a lot lately, Cap. Now is your time to get some rest. Imagine how much more productive you are going to be when you take a moment to relax and rest. Everyone around you will notice once you take a step back and breathe; maybe even the ones who are in charge of a nice raise or promotion!
You're going to be a bit frazzled this week Aquarius. THAT IS OKAY! At the end of your work day, make the conscious decision to go home instead of going out or doing anything more this week. You need a time for reflection in your safe space. This might be the week for you to also reorganize or remodel your space at home to make it more cozy! Care about yourself FIRST this week, Pisces. You are a giver. You are a care-taker. However, you need to remember that you cannot fill another person's cup unless yours is full at first. Recharge and allow yourself to help others AFTER you help yourself this week. You will thank yourself later! The world is opening back up, Aries. Well the U.S. is at least. So now is the time for you to start planning that vacation that you so desperately wanted to go on pre-pandemic. Start looking and booking yourself out. You deserve that destination vacation. Make the most of it and come back with a fully charged soul!
