Ar t and Architecture has a very long history. They affect to man thought , living environment or even feelings, but there are some boundary between them. Most people think that Ar t is more about feeling and aesthetic but Architecture is about function and practical. South-East asian region is highly recognized as one of the most various cultural diversity in the world. Contemporary ar t in this region express the variety of cultural and social mixture clearly. Because of these mixture, the cultural boundary is very distinct . As mentioned above, how to design an architecture that fit these creteria, , programs, users, and boundaries. So, this project try to merge this boundary and to experiment the way of designing new ASEAN Contermporary ar t museum.

A Space framentation. The void (small light court) brings the light and separate the space into multiple rooms but not clearly separate so the boundary between floors and rooms still connect. 2 B RE EZ E Hua Hin high speed train station competition 1st prize honor 2013
The experience of calmness construct on many factors; light , ventilation, humidity, noise, etc. To design a place for calmness usually apply in some build ing type such as resor ts, spa and hotels. They are normally design to make the users relax by the atmosphere of archi tectu r e a nd pla ce . There are 4 site in the competition, but the terminal one locates at Huahin, a place for vacation, not far from bangkok. Huahin famously know in beach cleaness and convenience, also the name is about the wind breeze, one of the main human comfor t factors. The main idea is why not create this fee ling in a pla ce not pos s ib ly ca lm, such as this project , a high speed train station.

Train approach
the idea is to create a beginning feeling at the f irst place the users arrive the place, the city of breeze and beach. This design try to achieve the slowness to calm down the users. The cloud-like atmosphere is the key design and f it the site. From these design foundation leads to the material and structure selection to provoke the users feeling to the station. the structural grid is 10x10 meters which f it the concrete main structure. This cloud-like ar chitecture is create by multiple layer of curtain walls and the slenderness of column and bracing cable. The curtain act as a sun shading but a llow the natural ventilation to pass through a whole terminal. Also, this curtain make sounds and move ment when the wind pass through so this material make a high quality of calmne ss at m oshpere.

Light can be interpreted in both physical element and abstract feeling. Light is the main element in every architectural design. To construct light is to construct structure. Light is invisible until it compose on the sturcture, the wall, the floor, the column, so the light quality is result by the quality of structure, plan, section and archtectural detail. So as this project , physically, try to create the structure from the site lighting quality which lead to the diversity of function and structure. Another idea of light is in an abstract way. Lightness, in this project term, is green design, touch the ear th softly, create less for something more. This idea is the fundamental design strategy of this project , a simple clear design. This competition’s main theme is about rethinking an abandoned site in the city or and old useless structure that still remains scatterly and redesigning them into a useful place.

The old structure is the bicycle bridge connect ing t w o m ain parks of Bangkok. The existing structure for bicycle path is not use suff iciently, very huge and not friendly for cyclers and handicaps, which can be develop for a further use. The site locates at the middle of urban mixtu re; road junction, waste water canel, pe de st r ain paths, trees, parks, small buildings, high rise buildings. These surroundings create many different atmosphere and quality of light which leads to the idea of redesigning this space for bicycle community.

- This architecture is an open-air building so most of the function are passive cooling (natural ventila tion) and sun-shading (aluminum fa cade&roof ). These are very ordinary solution in tropical architecture. - The use of ordinary material that can construct fast and light. Main idea
This develo pment aim to create a better environment and provide a space for bi cycle communities from a low-suff icient-use structure. The idea is to wrap a n old structure creating a comfortable place for man use and a privacy which changes the space atmosphere entirely.

Thought , a basic words but means a lot to men. Before man create or do a things, they always considerately think more than once. This is the most im por tant process in man creativity. Architecture is one among those considerate product of man kind. It re flects our life, social, culture, phyloso phy, politic, science and ar t . To design a building for thought is to express and mirror men themselves. There are many building types for leaning in this world. With the complexi ty and contradiction of contemporary wor ld now cr e a te a mixe d u s e a r chitecture. This project is a experiment in new specific building type that suit for all kind of learning and cretivity from the thought of men. A new learning space that users can search, create, live and express the product of thought in one place. This is an architecture that reflect the mind of men.

This sub building contains multiple of home-off ice type, exposition space and retail. This building is 60 meters high so the public can see the activities in side th builidng. The key design is to maximize the living but to create the intimate feelin g of the builidng, not to be desgin as a high-rise. Besides, the expostion space is a large stari that leads people to the roof garden+pavil ion and as a void for the inside building, learning facility.

This sub building contains learning center, two auditorium, library, theater and roof garde n. This building is lowrise but the inside space is a single vo l umn s pace wi th multi bple of bookwalls that seperate the zoning. It is designed as a place of information and data where users can think and have new ideas. This facility is public for both residents and non-residents.

The main structure of the roof is steel plate that erect vertically so the behavior of the plate act like beams. The gap between these beams are for gardening and skylight. Under the metal plate is an light frequent beams to take the roof loads to book-walls. The purpose of this system of structure is to create an atmosphere of wooden structure in modern language by using steel as a main material.

The ideas of this facility is a creative place where people come to f ind information and data (books and modern media) and create things. This wall respresent as the foundation of knowledge so as the structure of the entire facility.

Because of the setting, these two home-off ice act as the sun wall of the project. This f in align spacing at 0.60 meters to allow the activities to be visible from both inside and outside, yet contains the function as sun screening.

This new way of design typology comes from the idea of book collecting system that the vertical alignment represent a clear language of room-type and acitivities.
Mirror
The building can be cut in half and rotate 180 degrees because of the setting and all-around approach. The site is locate at the center of bangkok in a walkable range from public transport and university. The ‘ WALLS’ of home off ice indicate as the learning, thoughtful and creative center which expose to th ose w h o see a nd u se.

The land resource is limited but the needs is limitless. The design process has to suppor t the increasing needs es pecially in the city where the building is bigger but the vacant land is smaller. Stacking is a powerfully idea initiate in modern architecture to fulfill the needs and density of population in the city and this is main idea for applying in building in sectional design, the ver tical planning. Architecture is stable and immor tal. It takes and stays in many period of time. Standing ver tically is the sense of making and challenge the gravity force, the idea of connection between man and nature, by using the intelligent con struction technology for suppor t the needs. Architecture is monumental, it is the giver of light and the place for man.

Main Idea s
The interest in traditional Thai architecture lead to the main idea of museum design. Museum is the place collecting memories and knowledge. The exhibition is smooth by walk flows which relatively connects by the changing rooms. My f irst impression of Thai architecture is Temple, it shows a very light but strong construction methods especially the roof construction. Planing is easy to understand in linear type but the beauty is the geometry and scale of the interior space which inspired the idea of museum design.

The section shows how the museum is stacking up. It is the composition of content in vertical arrangement. The space gradually smaller and higher because of the content’s requirement and to f it the scale and geometry of stacking roof construction.

Modern architecture always try to expand the space to be a limitless space for the flexible function but lost the sense of place and boundarilessness of space. The mold of space is the opposition of openness of modern space idea, it is the appreciation of containment , limited space in architecture. It separates and accent the contradiction be tween out side and inside which cause the architecture so massive but com pact . This idea focus on void rather than mass, or in architectural terms, focus on spatial qualities.

The ideas starts from the sounds, like symphony, the construction of music is sa alike to the architectural construction. The method to compose sound is to understand the sound frequency, rythm and melody. The methon to erect the builidng is to conceive the light, material and structure. Sound travels through air or void without obstructions, so this project is not construct the wall to be just wall but to mold the void for sound. The sound box.

The body of the building are structured with load bearing wall stacking up diversed direction so the building has no column. Walls, floor and facade are freely attached so the void in the building are connected contin uostly, endlessly. This affect the way of sound travel in this building to spread throught the entire system and also expose out the environment, so the students and others can hear the sound whispering from the inside like the sound box.

7 ROOF Flood livable residential design project group project 2011
One of the main disaster appearing rapidly in Thailand is flooding, causing by the land use and the growth of the cities which irrupt the water containment land. This disaster annually occur and progressively expand. So, how we can decrease this problems in architectural te r ms , how to de s ign a b uilding or a rchitecture that suppor ts the expansion of needs and reduces the damage from flooding. The common sense of avoiding the flood is going to the higher ground. The traditional and vernacular Thai architecture is express this sense clearly by elevating the floor above the ground so the water can pass through and also living with them. The idea of elevated plane applies to the roof design which usually functioning just as a sunshade and raining shelter. What if we add and change the use of the roof differently as a public space for multiple families but remains the idea of living with the flood instead of get away from it .

Flooding two main solution are abo ving or resisting. The project concen trate on simple solution which can be seen in every traditional tropical architecture, elevating, or, in this term of use, “Aboving”. This solution has been practically used in a very same way, so this project try to acheive is to redesign the way of “Aboving” not just by elevating the building but to create a space that can be used for others. The solution quite clear, the design is not just e levating to the maximum height of the urban permission ,as a public space and shelter, but also “hanging” the living unit

The project objectively to design the residential building that can live with the flood. Due to the ideas of elevated plane. The highest architectural element is the roof. We design it as a main structure and hanged the residences from them. The surface uses as public space in both of flooding and non-flooding time. This design sup ports the way of living with the flood and also disturbs land use minimally. We think that if the idea has been ap plied in a city scale, this may gradually diminish the pain from the flood.

Since the very first born of human, we are originally living together, gathering in group, and because of intelligence, we s ta r t s e ttling down, fa r ming, cr e a ting things and building. The complex of human society leads to the city initiation . Growing from villlage, town, city, country and global . Nowadays, human are all connected via the their technology. System of relation and variation of usage is shown in multiple of building types that groups together for responding the human needs . That is why City is my first introduction of all ideas for creating architecture . The group of Users . Systematic relationship . Architecture as City. City like. The masterplan of city usually separate the function or use of the buildings and group them in zones which cause the problem of disconnectivity and time gaps . City in City is one of many solutions to solve and evolve the way of town flows . The idea is to mix the use of space into little areas or units that maximize the space performance and relation .

The project is to design a place for assiting the victims from disasters in southeast asia and the center of regional climate study . These means thats their will be a lot of people and function complexity so we regroup the program requirements into units that can operate themselves . Victims can cure, sleep , help each others in each of units . The idea is simple like designing a town, when the victims’ population increase, the use of units is continueosly expanded like a growth of urban, city or town .

All fuctions is a core and wraped by mega grid stucture and mega garden roof that can be used as public space instead the groundfloor when the disaster comes in the building site. Structure also makes the shade and the atmosphere of “in open air room� is created from the hall of circulation.

Cour t and cour tyard has been with man for a long time . The his tor y a nd va r i ation of this language can be seen in eve r y cor ne r of t he wor ld a t eve r y s ituation and condition of environment . Because of this, cour t is one of the most useful and funtional architectur al design. Basically, this design method can solve a lot of problems. The ideas of cour t is to reserve the comfor table environmental conditaion; filter the air quality and sun light , the building shadow set down in the cour t to create intimacy and satisfaction and also invite the breeze and humadity to pass through the space and architecture. Residential architecture use cour t as a suppor tive stategy to make a comfor ta b le e nvir onme nt . The wa y to u n derstand cour t is throgh planning and setting design. This project try to understand the cour t’s behavior how it wor ks a nd a ffect .

The entire site consists of three main function. - (right) retail and shops - (center single building) hotel - (lef t twin buildings) apartments These buildings share a same court but divided by facilities (spa, library), so the language of the court can be designed separatedly; f isrt court for the hotel and second cort for teh apartments.

These two apartm ents sit on the lef t of the site, mirrored each other, sharing the same court. The design of the room is quite simple but long side of every single rooms are at the building sides. This create more openess and gain more naturallight and ventilation. Moreover the rooms organization flip at each floor to present the idea of twin buildings on the opposite of ones.

This hotel sit at the center of the site, having the stepped court for multipurpose. This building is faced a lot of sun and more luxury. A single load corridor and every room facing the court is the solution for the building with the design of wall f in and grilled wood facade to reduce the heat from the sun light.
