day driving, lift kits or towing and load carrying, you can be rest assured that your local Pedders Suspension specialist can tailor a TrakRyder suspension system to suit your driving needs. A suspension lift kit raises the entire suspension system, which allows 4WD owners to install much larger tyres and to safely take the four wheel drive off road and into rougher terrains. Unlike other types of lift kits, suspension lift kits actually suspend the entire frame (with all the major parts including the engine and powertrain) to increase the distance between the chassis and the axles. Pedders Suspension lift kits raise the entire suspension by changing the front and rear springs, also fitted are tuned longer travel shock absorbers to accommodate the increase in suspension travel.

WITH TRAKRYDER IT IS POSSIBLE TO ENJOY ALL THE ASPIRATIONAL TOUGH QUALITIES OF A 4-WHEEL DRIVE ESCAPE VEHICLE AND RIDE CHARACTERISTICS OF A SEDAN.

Pedders TrakRyder suspension includes hundreds of quality components in its construction each designed to improve the ride and handling of specific vehicles in specific ways. The success of the Pedders TrakRyder 4WD suspension system is not governed by product alone. TrakRyder is a tailored system and much of its prowess can be attributed to the fact that the system can be ‘custom built’ to suit any 4x4 vehicle. With TrakRyder it is possible to enjoy all the aspirational tough qualities of a 4-wheel drive escape vehicle yet with the handling and ride characteristics of a sedan. For owners of newer vehicles, TrakRyder brings an end to the age-old compromise of owning a 4-wheel drive and having to compromise on ride and comfort. Whether it be for every

The Pedders Lift kits are available in a kit form or you may purchase the components separately. Simply fit the parts, have the vehicle wheel aligned and you’re ready to go! The 9500 series foam cell eliminates shock fade. Extra-large 40mm bore and piston is much greater than original equipment size and provides an even larger increased oil capacity for greater ride improvement. The TrakRyder raised heavy duty springs are made from premium quality grade steel, are stress relieved and are manufactured to exacting standards. All sway bar links, alignment products, extended brake hoses plus assorted chassis parts have all been designed, produced and tested off road to enhance the off road experience.

RAISING YOUR SUV OR 4WD WHEN RAISING YOUR SUV OR 4WD THERE ARE CONSIDERATIONS TO BE AWARE OF, SUCH AS: Raising the Centre of Gravity Wheel Alignment geometry angles Drive shaft angles Angle of the shackles Braking effect on the vehicle

Pedders

RAISING THE CENTRE OF GRAVITY

WHEEL ALIGNMENT GEOMETRY ANGLES

When the vehicle is raised, the centre of gravity raises as well. When a roof rack is fitted and equipment is placed in it, this also causes the centre of gravity to raise. Owners must be aware of this, as it will alter the handling characteristics of the vehicle. It is important when raising your 4 W.D., to fit good quality suspension components, to maintain stability and driveability.

If it is a live axle vehicle and the vehicle has been raised, then there is a general tendency for the caster angle to diminish. This will impact on the straight line stability of the vehicle. If the vehicle is equipped with an I.F.S., the Camber angle may well be compromised and the effect of this, will be uneven wearing tyres. It is very important to have a wheel alignment when the height has been altered.

BRAKING EFFECT ON THE VEHICLE

The vehicle’s braking distance will be affected as the weight increases. You raise your vehicle for a reason, and the most common reason is, so you can traverse rougher terrain, so therefore one could assume that you are going on a road trip. This means that you will load the vehicle with all the required equipment, thus increasing the gross weight of the vehicle. When this happens, it would be a good idea to have the brakes of the vehicle inspected, serviced, repaired and/or upgraded. Pedders have a large range of Geomet coated Disc Rotors which is complemented with Ceramic technology inspired Brake Pads.

DRIVE SHAFT ANGLES

ANGLE OF THE SHACKLES

It is important the drive shaft angles are “In Faze”, if they are not, then a drive line vibration could occur. Because of the design of a “Hookes Joint”, the rotational speed alters and the greater the angle, the greater the speed difference. That is why the front and rear angles must be same.

The reason shackles are fitted to leaf springs, is to allow for the varying length of the spring when operating through it’s normal cycle of bump and rebound. When correct raised leaf springs have been fitted, the correct angle will be achieved.
