The people I met were the most welcoming, kind, generous and peaceful people I have ever met. Despite the chaos of the streets and the turmoil surrounding their displacement from their native land, they are able to maintain a truly peaceful existence. — Rory ’11

SUMMER

The Summer Signature Experience allows you to use the world as your classroom in ways not possible during the school year. Rory traveled to a Buddhist monastery in the Himalayan foothills of Dharamsala, India, to study the effects of the decrease in biodiversity on Tibetan medicine. While there, he also taught English to the monks and introduced them to the game of lacrosse.

ASIAN STUDIES

As part of the Asian Studies Signature Experience, you won’t only learn about Asian history and culture in the classroom, you’ll get to experience it firsthand. Zoe’s spring break trip included living on a houseboat in Kerala, celebrating Pooram, visiting an elephant sanctuary, and a service trip to a school for orphaned and abandoned children.

India is an ocean of color, a sea of shades of the brightest pinks and yellows, life in high definition— that is India! In six days here, the Peddie group has visited temples and schools, corporations and small businesses, and I feel as though I have gained an impression of this country that is full of color, spice, wonder, and — Zoe ’14 heat.

RESEARCH SCIENCE

My experience has prepared me very well for future endeavors in the sciences. I worked with a professor and his welcoming research group. I felt that I really made a difference. Not only was my research very educational and rewarding, I also learned a lot about independence and working in a lab setting in my time there. — Pieter ’15

The Research Science Signature re Experience allows you to conduct hands-on research with working scientists in all areas of the sciences. Pieter worked in a lab at Duke University focused on theoretical physics, and in addition m to his research, discovered a problem that changed the process used by the scientists in the lab.

Here we know the ppower of actions: is force times velocity.y And that work of speech: p is force plus distance. We know the ggratuityy of existence, the ggift of assistance, and the significance of persistence. Peddie is the sun and we are all wearing black —Graduation.

CREATIVE WRITING

The Creative Writing Signature Experience will help you develop your talent in writing, including poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction or playwriting. Stephanie crafted a poetry portfolio, and was solely commissioned by the faculty to write a poem to honor the school’s 150th anniversary. Her summer experience included a Master Class in Prose at Columbia University.

The Creative Writing signature experience helped me grow as a writer, and—with the support of my faculty advisors—taught me the discipline it takes to do an independent study on top of the other elements to juggle in high school. Now, as a college student, I feel the advantage this unique experience gave me. — Stephanie ’14

VISUAL ARTS

MUSIC DRAMA

My most rewarding experiences at Peddie have been the result of collaboration with my fellow students. My senior recital was primarily a solo performance, but it was heavily impacted by insight from my teachers and encouragement from my friends. — Emma ’14

If you choose to participate in the Arts ve Signature Experience, you’ll have the opportunity to develop yourr passion for music, drama or visual arts. Emma decided to further her passion for musical theater by participating in a summer program at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and capped her experience with a solo performance in front of Peddie faculty and students.
