HOUSE IN BEVERLY HILLS
The house is a remodel of an original design by German architect Becker in 2013. Archers was brought in to remodel after the house was sold shortly after to a couple and their baby. The house is located on top of Viewsite Terrace in Beverly Hills, California. It has 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, spa, gym and a cinema spread out on 3 floors of 16.000sqf. The owner is opening the house after a year of remodelling with a party for The Hammer Museum, LA. Here he will show his private art collection + display pieces borrowed from The Hammer. All interior architecture, lighting and furniture is done by Archers. My main focus in this house was to redesign the main stair tower that connects all three floors. The existing star had cantilever steel treads attached to the retaining wall and a glass railing. I took the class rail away and made a continuous massive oak rail that connects all three floors together. The stair becomes like an object it the space and crates a continuity between the large spaces in the house. The stair is still in construction but will be further photographed when finished.

Greenline Art Center
AN INTEGRATED URBAN APPROACH
Chicago, Illionis
The new Green Line Arts Center (GLAC) is conceived as part of a vital urban network of buildings, programs and creative practices that make up the fabric of the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. Expanding the visionary partnership of the Arts + Public Life Initiative at the University of Chicago, the GLAC will offer meaningful opportunities to facilitate the transformative potential of artists, to support performing arts programs for dance, theater, film, and spoken word, to build sustainability initiatives, and to bridge neighborhood and institutional scales. The design of the building optimizes urban connections at every scale. The building’s pronounced roofline and glowing skylight apertures stand as a beacon to the elevated train and distant horizon. From the sidewalk, the large storefront windows offer inviting views of the inner life of the building to passersby waiting for the bus or train. The programmatic adjacencies implicit to the plan organization encourage connectivity, adaptability, and visibility of spaces within. The GLAC will bring together and incubate local artists’ practices as part of a global cultural dialogue in an integrated and flexible architectural environment. The architecture initiates a conversation with its surroundings through attributes of scale, materiality, and transparency where the various seams and edges of the building are woven into the fabric of the neighborhood.

The operable wall system allows for the theatres and multi-functional halls to combine a variety of different sized rooms and events. In this instance, the entire building is one large room hosting a dance festival that flows onto East 55th Place. From the sidewalk of East Garfield Boulevard, the commulity can glimpse through the terra-cotta facade, throught every layer of interior space, welcoming them to join in the athmosphere of exchange. To optimize the mulitifunctinal quality of the Center, when the aucustical doors are all closed, each theatre and hall can be used independently. This organization optimizes the diversity of users and supports the integration of community with visiting artists.

PROGRAM AND BUILDING ORGANIZATION At this stage in our design process, we have developed a fluid program landscape and range of spaces to showcase the preparation and production of works by artists in the fields of music, dance, theatre and cinema. More than a performance venue, our proposal for GLAC celebrates the ongoing work of planning, rehearsing, training and staging for a performance in equal part to the final event itself. When seasons allow, interior programs on the ground floor may spill outdoors to bring the collaborative spirit and enterprise from within the GLAC to the broader neighbourhood. Upstairs, more intimate studios, rehearsal spaces and a community kitchen overlook the double-height atriums and theatres below to offer views between the various stages of training, rehearsal and staging. Multi-functional halls adjacent to the main ‘street’ act like shutters to filter program, atmosphere, and acoustics. When all doors are closed, these zones can be discreet rooms, isolated acoustically from adjacent spaces. When some doors are open, such as during staging and production workshops, these zones can serve as wing spaces for performers, props and other support equipment. When all doors are open, the entire ground floor becomes a continuous space of 6,000 square feet to accommodate large productions and community events. Rather than reflect the myriad potential uses within the GLAC, our proposal resolves the program into simple clear volumes with multivalent potential where not only each individual space but unique combinations and adjacencies of space offer radical new opportunities to integrate diverse, site-specific artistic practices into the building.

Observatory in the Mojave Desert California
The project is an observatory in the Mojave desert. This desert has one of the darkest skies in United States and covers 124,000 km2 through four states on the west coast. The site is on top of Alvord Mountain in California, on the border to Nevada between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. You enter from the freeway and drive an hour north on a small dirt road. This project is 1000m.a.s.l. on the highest peak on Alvord Mountain. The placement of the site is based on the requirements of the telescope, and for visitors to view the site in all environmental situations. The project is a square space with a courtyard in the middle. Six people can work and operate the observatory at the same time. The observatory have all the necessary amenities to live in the desert far from civilization. When the observatory is not in operation, visitors can enter the courtyard and climb the exterior steps. From the roof visitors can observe the sky and the view in this extraordinary
landscape.
24
Alvord Mountain
27
The observatory is a square concrete structure with a large courtyard inside. The exterior stairs allow the visitors to enjoy the surrounding landscape. Under the stair are the programs needed to operate and survive in the desert. Separating the courtyard and the interior spaces in a hanging concrete wall. This wall allow some light inside, while it blocks out most of the direct sunlight.
Winter
28
The vegetation inside the courtyard is the same as the vegetation on the outside. Framing the landscape inside a smaller area sets a scale to the enormous desert allowing details to be noticed as seasons change. The wall around the courtyard block the view to the surrounding landscape so the sky is more visible.

House in Helsinge
This is a house about an hour and a half north from Copenhagen. The area is flat
Denmark
The house is placed at the end of a dirt road next to a dens forest. The west side
and green, very much like you imagine Danish cultural landscape. of the house is facing the green fields while the east side faces the forest. The house has one large space surrounded by a series of smaller more intimate functional spaces. You enter at the east side of the house. Here you either enter and descend three steps into the large central space, or you turn left and walk around the corner and enter a small kitchen with a door leading to a kitchen garden. The large space in the middle has one large window. This window faces west and captures the scenic view of the Danish landscape. The window is also showing what is going on in the surrounding spaces of the house. The intersection where the window to the outside and the opening to the large space meet, is the corridor between the kitchen and the dining area. The bed and bathroom is behind the next corner from the dining room. By minimizing the functional spaces into the periphery of a large space gives two very different spatial experiences. The peripheral spaces has a direct contact to the landscape while the inner space relates indirectly, receiving only a projection of the scenic view.

Spaces
The following work is from an exercise with Raphael Zuber where I made two spaces. They have no program, only space. Concrete garden is a exhibition space with a large circle in the roof on one side and a 3x3m column on the other side. A low and narrow door take you from the street into the large concrete room. You enter facing the column, turning to your right and the colour of the sky will reflect on the polished concrete floor shining through the circle. The space is divided in to parts. One bring outside air, sound and colour into the space while the other enclose the light out carrying a heavy concrete roof.
