About me I am born in 1981 and educated with a masters degree in industrial design from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. During the years at AHO I have also studied entrepreneurship through the grĂźnderskole-programme, organized by the University of Oslo (UiO) and UC Berkeley. Previous I have studied British and American literature with corresponding courses in phonetics / intonation, translation and social studies at UiO. I run Peder Torget Design, a sole proprietorship I have created to be able to take on interesting freelance work. I have a special interest for graphic design, and through both work and projects at AHO I have explored and learned with enthusiasm. I have also worked as a designer at Vuze Inc. in San Francisco. As a designer I find it interesting to work with people; designers, engineers, marketers, clients and of course the end users. More heads and good processes make for great solutions. I thrive when working in teams, but I am also focused and capable when working on my own. Photography started out as a hobby of mine. Though, as with a lot of hobbies, I got really immersed in it. It resulted in me taking photography into my freelance work. Everything from product shots and still life to portraits and
street photography tickles my fancy. In 2010, after completing my Masters degree at AHO, Peder Torget Design became a full time job, working with clients from several areas. Later in this portfolio you will see some examples from different projects, including work for a main client, Inven2. In general I would like to characterize myself as a person who seeks to understand what I don’t know, try to figure out what things are made up of and learn from them, evolve, communicate and at the end concretize and finalize. I enjoy every aspect of the process, from the small beginnings, through specific production stages, to those spectacular finalizations. All in all, I see my self as a happy and social guy with enthusiasm and inspiration to spare. Industrial & interaction design As a designer, I see myself as a bridge between all parties involved. Isn’t it lovely to get the traffic flowing smoothly between clients, production, marketing, end users etc.? To create the best solutions possible? Through school projects and professional tasks I have been able to work with challenges ranging from classic product design to innovative and less tangible interaction design projects. The projects in this magenta section of the portfolio all stem from my years at Oslo School of Architecture & Design (AHO). They represent work carried out by myself or in collaborations with talented, fellow students. Background: As AHO as an institution is ever evolving, I was fortunate to have an integrated study of both traditional product design and interaction design. In addition to these main categories, courses would be geared towards different important aspects of design, be it graphic design, branding, user centred design, material and production technology, design for all senses, storytelling etc.

User centered design Date: autumn. 2005 Course responsible: associate prof. Tom Vavik Collaboration with: Christer Carlsson From a selection of tasks we decided to work with self service machines and interfaces in public spaces. This project aims to improve the experience of using an ATM for persons with impaired vision. Central themes and topics for this project: • ergonomics • “Design for All” • research • user tests • mock ups (physical / digital) • CAD modelling

Tribitz Date: spring 2006 Course responsible: associate prof. Steinar Killi Collaboration with: Anne Grønlund & Jørn Christensen For this one month compact project, LEGO challenged us to create a “craze” toy. A craze is a toy which engages the masses of kids into playing with the same products (e.g. Yo-yo, pokemon, POG), The Tribitz are characters based on a core module containing a floating dice, much like a magic 8-ball. When two or more kids meet, they can engage in a role playing game comparable to that of “rock-paper-scissors”. One keeps score by clicking the head forward until the opponent is completely subdued and defeated. Central themes and topics for this project: • game concept • storytelling • production methods • material technology • rapid prototyping

Scout 25 Date: autumn, 2006 Course responsible: associate prof. Harald Skulberg and Per Farstad Solo project In a course where one can choose freely amongst objects to work with, personal interests often take charge. I love being at sea, but I can’t really afford it. The idea for this project was to make a compact yet spacious sailboat, well within the economical reach of young people. This was a course was focus on form giving and understanding shape. Studies in form were carried out in sketches, mock-ups, CAD and finally a high finish scale model. Central themes and topics for this project: • shape • CAD modelling • physical model building

Mother Norway Date: spring, 2007 Course responsible: associate prof. Nina Bjørnstad, Rune Bjerke, Rachel Troye and Anne Mellbye Solo project The final course of the 3 initial years at AHO was dedicated to provide understanding about brand building. Aside from essays on the topic, the design task was to build a brand that would better position Norway as a tourist destination. Mother Norway is a service that seeks to decrease the distance between tourist and service provider, and at the same time provide the opportunity for both an large and small operators to take part. The service relies heavily on storytelling in every aspect of its appearance. After all, travelling and storytelling go hand in hand. Central themes and topics for this project: • brand building • storytelling • service • personas • interaction design

Arietta - espresso maker Date: autumn, 2008 Course responsible: associate prof. Steinar Killi and associate prof. Carsten Loly Solo project From the master course “Technoform” where the goal is to combine new technology and innovation with aesthetics and form giving. Chosen topic for study was left for the student to decide. The Arietta is an espresso maker for those places where you cannot fit a stove or have room for a large espresso machine. All in all, the Arietta gives the coffee aficionado the possibility of enjoying a cup of espresso, brewed to perfection through adjustable parameters, in places were one previously could not. It is both a precision tool and small sculptural homage to a wonderful beverage at the same time. Central themes and topics for this project: • materials and technology • form giving • concept studies • “functional” prototypes

Product Graphics - a field in between Date: autumn, 2009 Supervisor: associate prof. Nina Bjørnstad with Mosse Sjaastad, Anne Mellbye and Geir Øxeth Solo project “Product graphics is the field between the turning point where spatiality negates the graphic qualities and vice versa” A diploma project at AHO is generally used to show off all your best skills. That’s fine by me, but I wanted to keep on learning new things. In the end I combined my interests for both product and graphic design, and looked into how they relate to each other. On the basis of little available background material, the project became an explorative process, containing material gathering, structuring, analysis, exemplifying, designing and communicating. With the project I wanted to point out how important a field product graphics really is, and I hope it inspires designers and product developers alike to handle it more carefully. The book is available for further studies here: http://issuu.com/pedert/docs/prdgfx Or, check out a video of the resource material: http://vimeo.com/pedert/product-graphics

Graphic design Understanding and utilizing the field of graphic design has always been central to me. This yellow section of the portfolio aims to show my skills and creativity as a graphic designer. The flexible study progression at AHO provided me with ample opportunities to focus my scholastic exercises on graphic design, either in it’s entirety or as an important part of the various projects. Peder Torget Design was established during my years in school, to be able to work with various graphic design projects. After completing my Master’s degree, Peder Torget Design became a full time job, enabling me to gain experience and take part in exciting, new projects. Through these projects I have gained knowledge on production for both screen and print, and are able to follow up all the way to final delivery.

Business card for Inven2 graphic design autumn 2010
Inven2 Inven2 is the result of the merger between Medinnova and Birkeland Innovasjon, creating the largest research and technology transfer office in Norway. Inven2 is owned by the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital. Working with Inven2 I have created the company’s visual profile; including development of brand and logo, font program and color scheme, as well as development of physical material, document templates, web design etc. In addition to working directly with development for Inven2, I have also worked with creating “mini-identities” for companies spawning from under Inven2. Human Factors Research Human Factors Research is a service provider in the public sector, delivering a program for developing better performance in human resources. HFR is a commercialization of research produced by a team from the University of Oslo, institute for psychology. Human Factors Research needed to establish a graphic profile and produce a complete package of visual tools, to be able to compete with existing actors in the marketplace. My work with HFR involved developing brand and visual profile, creating figures and schematics, as well as creating a field kit, an information pamphlet and business cards. graphic design and photography spring 2007
Photography It started as a hobby many years ago. It has since then evolved to something more. I have tried, failed, learned, succeeded, learned again and kept on. Nowadays I of course do photography for my own interest, but also as a service through my company, Peder Torget Design. I strive to make my photographs constructive and communicative, whether it is a pack shot or an abstract. In this chapter of the portfolio, you will find a selection of photographs, first some commercial ones (on white) and finally some made by and for my own creative compulsion (on black).
