Olswang’s Singapore Photography Competition
In 2014, Olswang’s Singapore office worked with Make The Change, a social enterprise, to run a photography competition for students from Crossroads Youth Centre, a Singapore community centre for youth who have been referred by the police, from low-income families and/or who are out of school. Olswang’s Singapore office got the idea from the Olswang Art Award, which is an event run by Olswang’s London office with its community partner, Haverstock School in London. Together with Make The Change we organized the photography competition. The programme included:
•
A photography training session with C.S. Ling, a famous photographer from Singapore. C.S. Ling’s dedication to educate the younger generation has earned her the title of “Great Women of Our Time 2011 (Arts & Media)” by Singapore Women’s Weekly magazine. Her works are published worldwide.
•
A photograph shoot in the CBD and Boat Quay, Singapore. Volunteers from Olswang, Make The Change and C.S. Ling accompanied the students on the photograph shoot whilst they took photographs with professional cameras provided by Nikon.
•
An introduction to intellectual property laws. Led by Matthew Hunter, an associate at Olswang, this interactive seminar covered an introduction to intellectual property rights, why they are important and their value in the world.
•
A presentation skills workshop. This workshop was aimed at giving the students the confidence to present in public. At the end of the workshop the students were each tasked to present their favourite photograph that they took on the photograph shoot to a panel of judges from Olswang.
The best photographs were chose by the panel and have been displayed on the walls of Olswang’s office in Singapore. We think the photographs look brilliant in our office but, more importantly, they demonstrate the creative ability of members of the community in Singapore. We are proud of their work. If you like the art and you are interested to buy a copy or a framed copy, please contact receptionsingapore@olswang.com. The proceeds go to Crossroads Youth Centre.
