The double major (in Architecture and Urban Planning) made me understand the different scales of Architecture and Design. I hope to work in these different scales and understand that we're professionals that find solutions to solve problems, no matter the size of it.

a b o u t

In this journey of five years studying Architecture, I have learned that It is more than construction performed: Architecture is experience, is the space with its occupants, its smells, its colors, its lights. The Architecture doesn’t end when the walls of the building ends, it spreads through the streets and sidewalks: The City is the architecture for excellence.

Thank you for come here! I present on this Portfolio a compilation of 4 Design Studio Projects I've made during this years on college education. I chose to only present this four because of its representativeness. Looking back I can see how I grew as a student, as a creative professional and also as a person during the semesters I was working on this projects.

I'm thankful for the professor that helped me during this journey: Prof. Ricardo Paiva, Prof. Bruno Braga, Prof. Renan Varela and Prof. Fred Esenwein. With the guide of this professionals (and so much more professors) and the support of my colleagues I'm walking my way toward my graduation.

SUMMER RESORT

Project developed for the discipline of Architectural Design 2, given at the 4th semester of the course. We were asked to design a Summer Resort to be located at Porto das Dunas Beach - Aquiraz-CE. In this project, the priority was to ensure that all the suites were facing the east (the ocean) and they had some privacy. For this reason the building has a fragmented facade. All circulations and service areas are located on the west side of the building, while the balconies, pools, restaurants and permanence areas are facing east.

12

11

In addition to the hosting building, the program requires a restaurant open to town, and also convenience stores. Swimming pools, gym, saunas and recreation areas are reserved for guests.

SOCIAL HOUSING

Project developed for the discipline of Architectural Design 3, given at the 5th semester of the course. We were asked to design a Social Interest Housing Complex to be located at the neighborhood of Barra do Ceará Fortaleza-CE - to where would be relocated 300 families living in risk areas near to the region. In this project one of the challenges was to design a housing complex of social interest to run away from the aesthetic standards that are reproduced around the country, financed by government anti-poverty programs. Another challenge was to ensure a diversity of layouts for the apartments due to the diversity of the public (families of different situations).

22

21

In addition to the Housing Complex, the program required spaces reserved for insititucionais buildings (primary school), recreational areas and stores for local businesses.

Grand Theatre of Parangaba

Project developed for the discipline of Architectural Design 5, given at the74th semester of the course. We were asked to design a Complex of Art with two theatres (the biggest one for an expected audience of 1200 people, and the second one for 400 people), classrooms, coffee shops and public areas to be located at the neighborhood of Parangaba - Fortaleza-CE. The great challenge for this project was to design a large square where the theater would be located, that fits the characteristics of the terrain, that turns to the Lagoon View (southeast) and that could dialogue with the local architecture, characterized by industrial warehouses and informal constructions. In the beginning of process, the goal was to distribute throughout the site the required equipments, thinking about the walkways and flows and fortifying the visuals desired. The strong solar radiation of Fortaleza induced me to my starting point: start the project with a large roof that protects the entire complex. Below that roof would be found the vegetation, recreation areas, coffee shops etc.

44

43

This way was born this project: inspired by the birds and herons that flies over the lagoon of the neighborhood. With open wings, the roof protects the square and creates a new and open public space to the city.

project 1 - starkville single family residence

For this first exercise, we were called to design a façade for a single family apartment in Starkville, MS (where Mississippi State University is hosted). Dealing with a limited site dimension, we were challenged to exercise our creativity on composition, textures, shapes, openings and craft abilities, once all the steps were made by hand. I present here the creative process of all this journey. In a short space of time the professors asked us a lot of different representations of our propositions: models, sketches, drawings.

68

67

The creative process is all about bring to a white paper the maximum of references, things you like, things you have seen someday. The first step of the creative process is an exercise of remembrance, and then the battle starts. The second step is an exercise of dispassion. You may have bring to your white paper a lot of things that you may like a lot and probably wants it on your decisions, but is necessary to let the unnecessary things go. Dispassion doesn't always means loss

project 2 - Chicago Mixed Used Residential

We were asked on this project to design a mixed-used building for the community Near North Side Chicago. On September of 2015, the teachers took us on a school trip to visit the city of Chicago for 5 days, which was very enriching for the process of the discipline. During my research, I was reading excerpts from two books that guided my decisions during the course: "Life Between Buildings" by Jan Gehl, and "Triumph of the City", by Edward Glaeser. From them find three principles that guided my creative process and are revealed in my final presentation: accessibility, diversity and density.

80

79

The building is a residential complex from the first to the seventh floor consisted by 5 different types of apartments and a ground floor occupied by commercial spots. It was a challenge to work with a very limited site.
