Wood Glen

Official Publication of the Wood Glen Property Owners Association

Dear All, This is the time of year to celebrate all for which we are thankful. This year especially, we are not taking water for granted. Thanks to all of you who donated to help those who lost homes and businesses in wild fires this summer. Thanks to all of you who cooperated with water rationing. Thanks to all of the Wood Glen volunteers for accelerated efforts to clear areas in the green belt of growth that would endanger our large trees and/or cause potential flooding, and to monitor our sprinkler system. Did you know that now is the best time of year for deer watching? Late fall is the time when bucks have grown their antlers, fawns are moving with their mothers, and a time when deer are most active and likely to bolt and run. Check out the hike and bike trail….but remember, always walk dogs on leashes, pick up their “deposits” just like you would on the sidewalk (it is the law!) and stay on the trails! Also, slow down when driving at dusk since that is the time it is most difficult to see AND the critters all come out to play! By now, we have had our annual meeting and if you were not able to attend check the website for the Power Point presentation. New information will be there regarding the legislation passed in 2011 affecting home owners associations as well as business conducted at the meeting. Please look for an article written by a Wood Glen resident about safety on the streets of Wood Glen in this edition. Also, there are announcements regarding special holiday shopping opportunities and our upcoming social events and garage sale. I do not have anything for November from Elroy, our resident historian, but keep a look out….he promised me more articles! Thanks, Elroy! You do know about the volunteers who do work for Wood Glen, right? Want to get involved? We currently are in need of a Section Representative for The Park and our treasurer Ken Stites informed me that he must resign at the end of the year (accounting experience necessary for the position of treasurer…).

Wood Glen to respect others on the road and the way to do that is be respectful ourselves. The “ OH I AM SO SORRY ” response has been used so much we don’t even hear it anymore let alone believe it. Please help to make WG and HG safe for all of us. We want to grow and develop and the way to do that is to learn the rules of the road and follow them. You may think I am being over dramatic but I do ride in this neighborhood and it can be very scary and I have been riding a long time. This past week I had several encounters and I was really paying attention. Thank you for reading this and for trying to make our neighborhood and city safer for all wheeled vehicles. Your Wood Glen neighbor, SH

I am sitting here thinking about having been asked to write an article for the newspaper regarding: SPEEDING, LIGHT RUNNING, RUNNING STOP SIGNS, AND THE ME FIRST ATTITUDE My first response was, “NO not me, let someone else.” Well, then I realized that’s what almost everyone says any more, “NOT ME! LET SOMEONE ELSE!” So I am going to put on paper some of the things I see and hear. I see and hear (my house backs up to Plantation) SPEEDING. I see people put their cell phones to their ear the minute they start to drive. I wonder, “Are they that late? Why didn’t they call before they got behind the wheel?” No, they seem to do that calling while driving 35 to 45 mph (sometimes faster) down Plantation. They cut the corners short (this makes it real hard on the person walking or riding a bike or just standing on the corner). They ‘cowboy’ stop the stop signs. I see this happening while children of all ages are at the bus stop. I think to myself, “Please don’t let them hurt anyone.” We here in WD and HG all have a responsibility to each other just like we do in society. We may not ride or walk or have children, but that does not mean we can abuse the ones that do. We are not all like that, I am sure. When we built here in WG 11 years ago all or most of the children were in grade school; now they are grown up and driving or gone off to school. But, there are NEW little ones, walking to school, being pushed in a carriage or riding their first wheeled vehicle. WE NEED TO WATCH OUT FOR THEM! We do need to teach our children
