CEDAR PARK TOWN CENTER Official Newsletter of the Cedar Park Town Center HOA

December 2011

News from the Board

I was going to write about volunteering this month, so I stopped to look up the definition of the word “volunteer”. Merriam-Webster says: ’one who renders a service or takes part in a transaction while having no legal concern or interest’. If we volunteer in our community, I think that we have a very strong personal interest by way of making the neighborhood more united, more attractive, safer, or just a nicer place to live in. We just lost the services of our Editor for this newsletter and another person stepped up right away to take over. Several people expressed interest in the Landscape Committee after our last Residents Meeting, and it looks like that committee will be back up and running soon. Our neighborhood Watch team has been active for some time now and has built an excellent rapport with the Cedar Park Police Department, and they can always use more volunteer Block Captains. Still looking for a chance to get involved? We need to rebuild our Recreation Committee – a group that has put on some terrific events over the years. Here’s a new one. DR Horton has indicated that they will turn the Architectural Control Committee (ACC) over to the HOA as soon as we are ready to take it. Volunteers for this must be residents in good standing and will need access to e-mail and some small time available to participate. You don’t need to be an architect nor a designer. The ACC is not in place to dictate their personal tastes on the community, but rather to help assure that proposed changes are consistent with the general tone and appearance of the community and that a project does not present a problem or detriment to a neighbor. So step up a see how rewarding a non-paying job can be.

News from the Website

If you need to report an issue to Goodwin, here are some ways to do so: A problem with covenant violations – From the main menu on our website, select “Feedback” and then click on “eForms” and select “Deed Restriction Violation Report Form”. Fill out the form and click “Submit” at the bottom. For more general questions or requests, click “Requests/ Questions” from the “Feedback” menu. Select “Property Manager – Goodwin….” and complete and submit the form. This is also a good way to report burnt out street lights or other common property problems. Ken Walsh

MISCELLANEOUS READING….

Do you skip right to the Message Board as soon as you log on to our website? If so, next time take a moment to scroll down and check out the “MISCELLANEOUS READING….” feature. This is built into our site software and is updated almost daily to show six different topics. While the articles in the sample to the left are mostly pet-related, there are a variety of categories drawn on, including health-related, automotive, and others. Just click on any topic to go to a full-length article on that topic. SECOND RESIDENTS ARE NOT SECOND-RATE CITIZENS!

We pay for our website and software based on how many accounts we have, so a long time ago it was set up that we would only have one account per household and allow two residents to be listed on that account. There was only provision for one photo to be associated with the account, so you may notice that many people have a picture of the two posed together which shows up with message board postings. Now it is possible for “Resident 2” to have his/her own photo – just go to “edit profile” on the home page. That’s also where you can “switch user”, so that you are posting from your own account and not your mate’s. And of course, Resident 1 might want to revisit their photo now. Ken Walsh
