Yard of the Month SEPTEMBER 2012

Congratulations to Sidney and Gail Adcock at 6219 Cash Oaks Dr. in the Park Section. Their yard is full of color, texture and shapes of so many kinds of plants which make it interesting to explore. The house sets high enough from the street that the yard has different levels supported and bordered by attractive stone walls. Pink roses are the predominate flowering plant in their yard this month, but this yard has a variety of lovely, healthy plants that are blooming now and throughout the different seasons. The challenge of being the yard of the month is that the yards are chosen a full month before to meet the publishing deadline. A colored photo of the yard can be seen in the online newsletter. It is obvious the Adcocks love plants and they will be rewarded with a $50 gift card to Plants for All Seasons located close to our subdivision at 6610 Louetta.

Watermelons are a classic summer road stand fruit that sometimes goes to waste because they are so large. Make use of your leftover watermelon slices and cool down from the heat with this fresh, tangy summer sipper.

Watermelon Cooler

Ingredients:

• 8 cups (1/2-inch) watermelon cubes • 1 1/2 cups ginger ale • 1/3 cup water • 1 (6-oz.) can frozen limeade concentrate

Directions:

Place watermelon cubes in a single layer in an extra-large zip-top plastic freezer bag, and freeze 8 hours. Let stand at room temperature 15 minutes. Process half each of watermelon, ginger ale, water, and limeade concentrate in a blender until smooth; pour mixture into a pitcher. Repeat procedure with remaining half of ingredients; stir into pitcher, and serve immediately.

Daughters of the American Revolution, San Jacinto Chapter,

Honeydew Cooler Substitute 8 cups (1/2-inch) honeydew melon cubes for watermelon cubes and 1 (6-oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate for limeade concentrate; proceed as directed.
