ROUND ROCK RANCH
Official Newsletter for the Residents of Round Rock Ranch November 2012
Dear RR Residents, You all have probably received your letter of introduction to Cen-Tex Association Management by now and are aware of the new changes here in our neighborhood. The pools are closed for the season and we are ready to settle in for the holidays! Please let us know if you have any problems with the transition and we will address it as soon as possible. I would like to encourage each and every one of our residents to take advantage of the recycling center we have here in Round Rock. It is located at 310 Deepwood Drive, just west of Round Rock High School off FM 620. There are many opportunities to recycle items that are not picked up in our recycling containers every other week. Did you know household appliances including hot water heaters can be dropped off to be recycled? Old cell phones, DVD’s/CD’s, Inkjet Cartridges, fluorescent and CFL bulbs, batteries and many more items can be dropped off between 9:30 a.m. till 6 p.m. daily. Please visit http://www.roundrocktexas.gov/recycle for additional items and information regarding this amazing center we have here in our city. It is right up the road and only takes a little effort to make a big difference in our environment. Thank you for helping make Round Rock Ranch a safe and great place to live! Happy Thanksgiving! Lea Beth Munoz President – RRR HOA

At the end of August, your board selected Lehi Gracia to serve the unexpired term of Leamon Lenham who moved out of state in order to advance his career. Lehi Gracia ( yes the “r” is before the “a” so it’s not Garcia) moved to Round Rock Ranch in 2004. He brings 2 years of experience having been elected to the HOA Board in 2007. He served as board president in 2007 and then as secretary in 2008. Lehi, a software engineer, has three children who attend Round Rock public schools. He likes to keep in shape by running the Forrest Creek Drive stretch, preferably on a daily basis. Welcome, Lehi. We are glad that you agreed to rejoin the Board and welcome your expertise.

The Enclave Did you know the Enclave Board is building an Email List??? If you sign up for it, you would already have heard the following news. Send us an email at enclave-board@ roundrockranch.com to be added to our communications list. On Thursday, October 11th, the Board of Directors met with Doug @ PAMco for our first official meeting. Things that Enclave Residents should be interested in: 1. The Board voted to adopt a new collection policy that was more in line with the routine that is already successfully implemented at PAMco. This includes notifications, collections and the terms of payment plans. If you are behind on paying HOA dues for the Enclave, you can expect to hear from them shortly. Please contact PAMco for more information: dplas@pamcotx.com 2. The Board voted unanimously to direct PAMco to partake in two projects ASAP: A. Back Up Battery units for each Exit Gate B. Fire Hydrant inspection 3. Jennifer Smith has stepped down as President of the Board of Directors and Michael Fontana will finish off the
rest of the term. 4. Doug also brought us a draft budget for 2013 which is under review and should be approved before the end of the year. The Board agreed to make saving money for the pending Roads Project a priority. Reminder: Saturday, November 10th is Enclave Clean Up Day! 9:00am The more people who sign up, the broader the scope of work we can accomplish. The Board will purchase donuts and beverages for participants. Please email the Board enclave-board@roundrockranch. com if you would like to participate and we will make sure to send you a reminder email. Next Spring, Michael Fontana is organizing a “Pup Share” for all Round Rock Ranch Residents. By “Pup”, he means the small offspring of native and adapted plants for landscaping use. If you have a plant in your yard that is easy to cultivate, take a cutting/shoot/pup, get it to root and come meet and trade with other residents. If you would like to be kept informed, Michael can be reached via the Enclave board email address: enclave-board@roundrockranch.com

Why Knowing About Kilowatt-Hours Can Help You Save Money By Chris Lee
Let's all admit it - we've all taken electricity for granted. As soon as we were young enough to reach the light switch to turn on the lights, we've never thought about electricity since it's been integrated into our lives as a basic neccessity. By understanding a little bit about a Kilowatt-Hour (kWh) of electricity use, you'll more easily measure and compare the costs to operate your appliances in order to figure out how you can save some money. The concept of kWh is difficult to visualize since most of us have forgotten the details of our high-school physics class (for those of us that actually took high school physics). Power, energy, time?...how can we define kWh? If you turned on twenty 100watt lightbulbs in your house and left them on for 1 hour, you would have used 2 kWh (20 lightbulbs x 100w x 1 hour = 2000 watt-hours). And if you used your clothes dryer for an hour and your dryer is rated at 5000 watts, then you used 5 kWh (5000w x 1 hour). While each family uses electricity differently based on their living habits, here's a website that will give you an idea on
energy use of common household appliances. Caution: the dollar figures used in this chart are based on $0.07 per kWh instead of they typical $0.10 per kWh in Texas: www.glendalewaterandpower.com/rates/appliance_operating_costs. aspx (Shortened: http://goo.gl/kCelA) So if you looked at your energy bill, you'll see that you're paying for the amount of Kwh's that you and your family use. By knowing the concept of kWh you'll be able to more easily correlate your energy use to your energy bill and therefore be able to do more to save money. To help you save energy and therefore more money, here are some resources with helpful energy saving tips: www.takealoadofftexas.com/index.aspx?id=energy-efficiency-tips (http://goo.gl/meydE) http://energy.gov/sites/prod/files/energy_savers.pdf (http://goo.gl/u3fuE) I hope you've understood the basics of a Kilowatt-Hour and how it's measured to help you see your energy usage. If you have any questions about this, please ping me at leec89@gmail.com.

PET CORNER CAN I GIVE MY DOG THANKSGIVING SCRAPS? Submitted by Kristen West We know it’s tempting, but most Thanksgiving scraps are not safest treat for your pets. Cooked turkey bones are a big no-no as they can splinter and result in a trip to pet ER. Additionally, overindulging your pet in other fatty foods can lead to stomach upset, diarrhea or even life-threatening pancreatitis. Other items to avoid are onion, sage, garlic ... and please, don’t ever give your pet alcohol. If you can't turn away from those puppy-dog eyes, a bite or two of pet-safe veggies like plain broccoli, sweet potato or carrots, or a small taste of plain turkey is usually OK. Put the treats in a Kong or other puzzle toy while you sit down to eat with your family so that your furry begger is happily preoccupied!
