NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Twin Creeks First “National Night Out” A Huge Success National Night Out is a nationwide event designed to help build and sustain great neighborhood bonds and to show support for our local law enforcement officers. All the positive comments from our neighbors indicate these goals were accomplished in Twin Creeks when we celebrated our first National Night Out with block parties on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. There is an old saying it “takes a village” … however, in Twin Creeks it only took our individual streets! In typical fashion of our residents, we had an excellent turnout! In addition to all of our neighbors turning on their porch lights, there were many creative ideas that Neighborhood Watch Block Captains and residents came up with to celebrate this event. Several area streets had potluck dinners; others grilled hamburgers and hot dogs while visiting and meeting one another. Some neighbors gathered together in their cul-de-sac and visited while the children decorated posters, played together and rode bikes. Other fun activities and ideas were incorporated -- one street had a popcorn machine and shared popcorn while visiting; another street had a cupcake decorating station set up for the children; and another even incorporated celebrating one of their resident’s birthday. Some of the Block Captains passed out “no solicitation” signs, while another gave out aloe vera plants to neighbors. The highlight of the evening, however, was a Travis County Deputy Sheriff who drove through Twin Creeks, stopping in to say hello to children and their families. Twin Creeks’ first year to participate in this event was very successful. Many residents met one another for the first time. Several residents thought that it was such a good idea that they want to have block parties more often. And all have agreed that Twin Creeks wants to participate in National Night Out next year!
