Holiday Lights and Decorations Contest by Joanie Brown and Amelia Dansby Unfortunately, mid-December’s deadline for submitting articles for this month’s newsletter fell the day before the nominating/final voting began. So all of the Holiday Lights and Decs winners will be listed in February’s issue. Hopefully, though, our post-voting e-mail blasts let you know the address of each category’s winner and runner-up, so that you were able to pile your family into the car to check them out.

Breakfast with Santa and our Adopted Family Results: Laura Kouns, Recreation Chair Our Breakfast with Santa event was spectacular! Entertainment was provided by the Choirs of Round Rock HS, Chisholm Trail MS and Fern Bluff ES. They were truly amazing! Children from over 100 families sat with Santa telling him what they wanted for Christmas. We had around 500 in total attendance at this wonderful event. This year we collected for Brown Santa, Trinity Nursing Home and the Baptist Children’s Home. Many of you brought items of need to the Breakfast with Santa event. The entire neighborhood, which includes Fern Bluff Homeowners, Stone Canyon Homeowners and Fern Bluff Elementary School, worked diligently behind the scenes, to collect for our 13 Adopted Families. Many of our neighbors hosted gift card parties and special gatherings to bring in donations for these families. A Special Thanks goes out to all of you guys! Fern Bluff Elementary had several Giving Trees, where the children and their families could select special items of need off the trees. The gift cards and special items are still being gathered and counted, but as of now we have collected over $3,000 in cards and all of the items of need that were placed on the trees have been taken. I am continually reminded that we live in THE BEST NEIGHBORHOOD ever! It is so very humbling to know such giving people! I, for one, feel truly blessed to be a part of this totally wonderful neighborhood. Thank you all for making a difference in the lives of others! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Have a Wonderful New Year!

Neighborhood Watch by Joanie Brown
We continue to be “harassed” by troublemakers checking for unlocked cars and packages left at front doors by UPS/ Fedex couriers. Williamson County Sheriff’s Dept requests we continue to stress the following reminders: • Autos: Preferably, keep vehicles parked in a locked garage. When parked outside, ensure doors and windows are locked, your car alarm is “on” and remove or keep articles out of site. • If you are expecting packages to be delivered while you’re away from home, ask one of your neighbors to watch for delivery and hold items for you until you return. As well, extend the same courtesy to your neighbors. Anyone “casing” your neighborhood will notice newspapers left in the driveway and flyers at the front door, indicating an empty home. • Homes: Keep all home and garage doors/windows locked, especially at night. Remember to lock the door leading from the garage into your home. Set your house alarm, both at night and when you’re away; if you don’t have an alarm already installed, seriously consider one and have it monitored by your installer and local authorities. • Doggy Doors: Keep them secured when your family and pet(s) are tucked in for the night, and especially when you’re away from home. Since most of these doors are large enough for a small person to work their way into a house, several homeowners have told me they also block the opening with a heavy piece of furniture when they’re away for an extended period. Remember that when parking on the street, you and your visitors should park against the curb facing in the direction of the ongoing traffic pattern. Several citations/tickets have been served to residents and visitors in our community for parking their autos facing oncoming traffic. Welcome to John Speasmaker, our newest Block Captain. John has generously volunteered to cover Cloud Peak Lane, so all of you who live on Cloud Peak--please help John compile his contact list by providing him with your name/address/phone #s and e-mail address; this will allow him to quickly pass along Neighborhood Watch alerts and other related info to you. We’re still in need of coverage for the following streets: • Part of West Magic Mountain and Herb Cove • Part of Wildwater Way • Lake Pines • Alwin • Box Canyon Terrace • Niagara Falls (Continued on Page 4) Stone Canyon Homeowner's Association Newsletter - January 2013

The Bottom Line: Remain aware of anything or anyone “out of place” in your neighborhood. Notice if anyone appears to be paying unusual attention to your habits or those of your neighbors. Touch base with your neighbors, especially get to know your new ones--keep each other up to date on community issues and concerns, especially safety-related. “Word of mouth” among our residents has proven to be the fastest and most effective means of bringing attention to and sharing information about what’s going on. Our Neighborhood Watch network is THE major weapon we can use against anyone who threatens our community. It’s our way of staying aware and keeping our neighborhood the safe place we want and need it to be for each other and our families.

Lt David also stresses: first and foremost consider your own safety; don’t confront unless you have to. DO call police. Even if a suspected perpetrator is gone, it’s necessary to file a police report. If possible, please notify your Block Captain and your neighbors so the word can be passed through our Neighborhood Watch network as quickly as possible.
