Howdy Wood Glen Neighbors! As the new President of the Wood Glen Property Owners Association, I thought I would start with a short introduction. My wife, daughter, and I moved into Wood Glen almost a year ago. In fact, as I write this in mid January, I reflect that about this time last year, we were looking at houses. After we moved in in March, we met several of our neighbors and were quite impressed with the community we have here in Wood Glen. Indeed, it was a very different experience for us from the previous Round Rock neighborhood we lived in, and we have been happy to be part of the Wood Glen family. So much so, that when Eric was looking for new Board Members over the summer last year, I jumped at the chance to join the Board and help out. In December, I was honored to be elected the Board President. A big thank you to Eric for everything he has done for Wood Glen last year as President, and to those that came before him. I start without any major unresolved issues, a clear plan to finish replacing the wooden fences over the next couple of years, and an Association balance sheet in reasonable shape. Wow, the first couple of weeks as President have been an experience. We had problems with some of the annual statements including incorrect fees. CMA, our management company, sent out new statements to all those affected. Hopefully everyone has received a correct statement and has been able to pay their dues. I want to apologize for any confusion and inconvenience caused by these accounting mistakes. We also have a few challenges related to our green belts that we need to come together as a neighborhood to deal with. First, I have received reports of wild pigs roaming through the neighborhood. We are working with local wildlife control officials to deal with the problem, but I ask that you let us know if you see them so we can keep track of where they might be going. And, be careful. They are wild animals and I wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt. Second, I have also received reports of motorized vehicles riding on the trails and in the greenbelts. working in the green belt. As we work to address this issue, please be careful. It would be terrible for someone to be injured while out for a jog or walking a pet. We are trying to figure out if this is primarily due to people from neighboring communities thinking our green belt is a public park or if it is due to our community members. Hopefully, this isn’t any one in our Wood Glen Community, but parents, if you child has a new dirt bike, golf cart, four wheeler, etc, remind them that the trails and green belts are off limits. Let us know if you see anyone driving on the trails or in the green belt. It really helps as we try to deal with this if we have a clear picture of where the problem areas are. Third, and most disturbing, last fall, evidence of a campsite was discovered near the southern edge of our green belt, in the wooded area close to the 3406. We removed the campsite and hoped that would discourage those involved from coming back, but recently we found evidence of drug use near the same site. I suspect this is not from members of our community, but rather someone who has decided our green belt is a convenient place to hide and do things they shouldn’t be doing. Please let us know if you see any suspicious activity. We are currently looking at what options we have to address these issues and hopeful can get them resolved reasonably soon. Looking ahead, we plan to continue working on the project to replace the wooden fences. The next step is to replace the stretch of fence along Creek Bend Blvd. between Falkirk Drive and Rio Brisas Cove. We are also working to develop a long-term financial plan for the Association. As we finish up the wooden fence replacement project over the next year or two, the funds we are currently using on fence replacement can be used to increase the Associations reserves. One caveat to that is the walls we have along 1431 and in some other places. When the footings that were put in place when the walls were built are inadequate, and, in some areas, shifting soil has caused the walls to lean. As you can imagine, it is quite expensive, but once the wall sections are rebuilt correctly, they should have a very long useful life with minimal additional maintenance. We need to plan now to ensure that adequate funds are available in the reserves to maintain the association property. The goal is to develop a plan to address the long-term needs of the community, knowing that small increases to the annual assessment now should avoid large increases later. I’ll keep you posted as that develops. We are also looking at ways to more efficiently use our resources. One obvious way we can improve is our choice of web hosting provider. It looks like we can have a much better website without increasing cost, maybe even save some money. I hope to have more on that soon. I think that is enough for now. Drain flies are small, have two wings and are a brownish or grayish color. Drain flies have a fuzzy appearance and when at rest, the wings are held roof-like over the body making them look like tiny moths which is why they are also sometimes called moth flies. Drain flies are often seen in kitchens and bathrooms often near sinks and tubs. They tend to be more active in the evening. Female flies lay eggs in the thin film of organic matter that builds up on the inside of pipes. Larvae develop in the slime layer, feeding on fungi and other microorganisms. Killing adult drain flies will only temporarily solve your problem. To manage drain flies, the source should be treated to reduce the population of developing flies. To track down the source, place tape over one side (don’t cover the drain completely) of the drains in sinks and tubs before you go to bed. In the morning, check the tape for flies that emerged during the night to find out which drain is infested. Once you locate the drain, take a stiff brush and scrub the inside of the drain. Flush the drain with boiling water. There is no need to treat the drain with bleach or ammonia. It may take several days to see a reduction of the adult flies once the drain has been cleaned; you have to allow the emerged adults to die off. Headaches Submitted by Dr. Jeff Echols

I’ve been treating headaches for over 25 years and I believe they are very misunderstood by the general public. It’s only human nature to have a reason for why something is occurring, so when people get a headache they usually try to determine the reason for their headache. Some of the reasons I hear are quite amusing. “My husband gives me a headache, …my boss, …my kids.” “I sit at a computer all day and THAT is the reason I have a headache.”Sometimes people think that headaches are just normal and everyone gets them. I can assure you that headaches are not normal. Headaches are a sign that there is something wrong. Just like all symptoms are signs that something is wrong. Headaches can be caused by a lot of different things. They can be caused by exotic and dangerous things like a brain tumor, but more often they are caused by common things. The most common reason is pressure on the nerves of the neck that radiate back into the head. When the bones of the spine are misaligned it will put pressure on the delicate nerves that exit the spine. This will in turn cause the muscles of the neck and shoulders to become 6 Wood Glen Property Owners Association Newsletter - February 2013

tight and develop knots in them You can actually reach up and feel the knots in your muscles. These knots are not normal and are a sign of spinal misalignment and soft tissue damage. Once the spinal misalignments are corrected the muscles relax more and the headaches are gone. Just for fun, I sometimes ask a headache patient when was the last they had a headache, once they have had their spine corrected. They will usually say something like “Gosh I haven’t had a headache in months”. I will ask them if they got divorced and they will look at me funny and say “NO, why?” You said your husband was the cause of your headaches! “Oh I guess I was wrong!” So headaches are not normal, but are very common. They’re usually caused by nerve pressure built up in the neck which causes tight muscles in the neck and shoulders. They can usually be corrected with gentle chiropractic therapy. You should get this checked even if the headaches are mild because if the bones of the spine are misaligned it will cause arthritic changes to form in the bones of the spine which will limit your ability to move and bend as well as other difficulties.
