TWIN CREEKS FIRE SERVICE

Save The Date As many of you are aware, in June of 2011, the contract for Fire Service between Travis County ESD 14 (ESD) and the City of Cedar Park (City) was terminated, and since that time our Fire and Emergency Service has been provided by the ESD. This has been an ongoing concern for us all due to the longer response time from the ESD. While the ESD has been able to provide these services, for the most part, very adequately, it has always been on the fore front of everyone’s mind to reinstate these services with the City as soon as possible. This task has been financially not feasible for the ESD to accomplish, however with added pressure from our community residents the City has been exploring ways to speed up the annexation process, in order to accomplish returning these services to Twin Creeks. Last fall, several of the City staff members met with representatives from our HOA to discuss the possibility of a Limited Purpose Annexation of Twin Creeks (WCID 1F and 1G). The impetus for this meeting was a desire from the neighborhood to receive City Fire and Emergency Services. A Full Purpose Annexation is not feasible due to the debt structure of the two Districts not being able to be supported by the City’s tax rate. Thus, the City has been moving forward with proposed legislation for a Limited Purpose Annexation that would simultaneously de-annex the Districts from (Continued on Page 2) Copyright © 2013 Peel, Inc.

the ESD. Should the legislation be approved, and the ultimate annexation occur, this would not only enable the City to provide Fire and Emergency Services, but also provide other City services such as police, code enforcement, animal control, street maintenance, parks and recreation, library, voting in City elections, etc. Under this Limited Purpose Annexation Twin Creeks residents would have virtually all City services and conveniences, but would not be able to run for a City elected position or vote in any City elections on bond issues or any other elections affecting the City tax rate, until a Full Purpose Annexation occurs. Under this Limited Purpose Annexation, the ad valorem tax rate of 10 cents, currently being collected by the ESD, would be assessed and collected by the WCIDâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and then passed along to the City to pay for the City services. As long as the WCID debt service tax is not raised, the taxes for the WCID (including the 10 cent ESD rate) would never be more than what Twin Creeks residents are currently paying. Any annexation will have to be voluntary, and should the State Legislature pass the proposed bills allowing the de-annexation from the ESD and the annexation to the City, a petition will be circulated later this summer, with the goal to gain the necessary number of signatures in favor of the annexation. There will be future articles in the community newsletter as this process progresses.

Unfortunately, he left out the inevitability of scammers using tax season to make a profit and stealing your personal information. Our tax records generally contain the most sensitive personally identifying information that you own, including social security numbers (for you, your spouse and possibly your children), addresses, employers, net worth, etc. Because of this high concentration of sensitive data, tax time is like an all-you-can-eat buffet for identity thieves. Last year, more than 80 million Americans filed their tax returns electronically. To prevent electronic identity theft, you must take the necessary steps to protect your computer, network and wireless connection.

A Focus on Healthy Snack Ideas

If using such a lock, be certain a key is readily available in case of emergency. In all cases, use a heavy duty strike plate with Number 12 gauge 3” woodscrews. • All exit doors without side hinges should have their hinges pinned. Install a peephole with at least a 180 degree viewing area. • Secure all sliding doors with an anti-lifting device and a secondary locking device, and install secondary locking devices on all windows.
