ROUND ROCK RANCH

Events Schedule 2013

Dear RRR Residents,

Saturday May 25th

Lehi Gracia has stepped down from the board effective immediately due to personal reasons. We wish him all the best and thank him for volunteering and filling in for previous board member Leamon Lenham who moved away last year. Thankfully we have a replacement! The board has appointed Gary Doyle to fulfill the remainder of the term left for the board position and Gary has accepted. Gary is a long time resident of Round Rock Ranch since October 1993, after having relocated from Connecticut. Gary and his wife were here before there was a RRR HOA. Mary and I have two kids, both products of the RRISD. I was a member of the RRR HOA Architectural Control Committee for 7 years. Mary has been a staff member at Gattis Elementary School for nearly 14 years and I work for Molecular Imprints in Austin as a Sr. Etch Process Engineer for 9 years. The pool is opening and along with that we need support from residents to help enforce the pool rules. Please notify the board of any activity that you witness that is not within the guidelines of the pool safety rules. We are looking into a security system for both pools and will keep you updated to the progress on our website at www.roundrockranch.com Please sign up for our local email blast to keep informed on all updates for the neighborhood.

Enclave Update A quick shout out to those residents who came out for the Spring Clean Up Day despite the weather! Fall Clean Up Day will be scheduled sometime around the first weekend in November or so – please email the Enclave Board @ enclaveboard@roundrockranch.com or enclaverrrboard@gmail.com if you would like to be reminded of the event. As a reminder, the Annual Meeting for the Enclave has been scheduled! Keep an eye on your mail for an official packet of information from PAMco. If you are unable to attend please take the time to sign a proxy and pass it along to a neighbor, a Board member, or PAMco in case we have issues meeting quorum. The meeting is scheduled for: Tuesday, June 4th 7pm to 9pm at Clay Madsen Recreation Center at 1600 Gattis School Rd, Round Rock, TX 78664 Phone: (512) 218-3220 This meeting is for homeowners whose streets are Briarton or Rosenborough - those who live inside of the Gates only. If you would like to make sure a concern of yours is on the Agenda for the Annual Meeting, please send the Board an email at enclaveboard@roundrockranch.com or enclaverrrboard@gmail.com The curbs on the No Parking side of the street have been repainted. The zone should now be clear to residents and their guests. Violation warning letters will be sent while the neighborhood becomes reacquainted with the No Parking side of the street. Warning Stickers will follow – you know the ones that are a major nuisance to remove from your auto glass? Triton Towing has been tasked with towing inside of the gates. If your vehicle winds up missing, please start by calling: 512-252-2727. A question was posed during the Clean Up Day: “Who is responsible for the sidewalks?” In the Enclave, not only do we own our own streets, but the sidewalks are ours as well. So, the HOA is responsible for the sidewalks. But… as Homeowners, we are all personally responsible for everything that is inside of, and including, the Gates. So if there are weeds in the sidewalk or trash in the street in front of your home, please contribute a little time and effort to keep the neighborhood looking nice and take care of these little things. This will help keep costs down and allow us to contribute any overages to the pending road project. We have been notified that this will be the last monthly newsletter for Round Rock Ranch that will be mailed to your home. If you would like to continue be notified of updates from the Enclave, please send an email to us at enclave-board@ roundrockranch.com or enclaverrrboard@gmail.com Of the 95 homes in the Enclave, there are only 24 home owners and 4 tenants on the Board’s email list . ROUND ROCK RANCH SNAKE BITES A CONCERN AS WEATHER WARMS UP Warmer weather coaxes snakes out of hiding, and it’s important to know what to do after a snake bite, according to a medical toxicologist at Baylor College of Medicine (www.bcm.edu). “Many people don’t realize how much of an issue snake bites are in this area of the country,” said Dr. Spencer Greene, director of medical toxicology and assistant professor of medicine – emergency medicine at BCM. “In fact, our regional poison center reported 235 snake bites – including 148 from known venomous snakes in the Houston area in 2012, and I am sure many more are going unreported”. According to Greene, the first step is avoidance. “Never reach into a hole or a bush blindly, a snake may be resting there,” he said. “It is also important to maintain an appropriate distance from a snake. Most pit vipers, which include rattlesnakes, copperheads and water moccasins, can strike at a target up to twothirds of their body length when provoked.” If you are bitten by a snake, Greene suggests the following important steps: • Stay calm. • Call 911 immediately to be evaluated. • Take off anything that is constricting the affected area, such as a ring or watch. • Position the affected area at or above heart level. This means that if you are bitten on the hand, bring it to heart level, and if you’re bitten on the leg or foot, elevate it if possible. This minimizes the amount of local tissue damage and swelling, which is the most common finding in pit viper bites. • Go to the emergency room – the sooner the better. Greene also dispels several myths about treating snake bites and suggests heeding the following advice: • Do not apply a tourniquet or a constriction band. • Do not apply ice; it can cause local tissue damage. • Do not apply heat. • Don’t cut the affected area and attempt to suck the venom out – this increases the amount of local tissue damage.

• Don’t use a commercially-available extraction device. These have also shown to be ineffective in removing venom and actually increase the amount of tissue damage. • Don’t use electrical therapy. • Don’t apply any type of lotions or ointments. The management of snake bites has changed over the years and the newer type of anti-venom has proven to be very effective in reducing pain, bleeding complications, swelling and tissue damage, Greene says. Although anti-venom has been shown to have the maximum effectiveness within the first 12 hours of the bite, it can still be effective a few days after the bite. At the hospital, physicians will determine if anti-venom and hospital admission is necessary. “Ideally, patients should be evaluated by a medical toxicologist with experience in managing snake bites,” Greene says. If a patient requires anti-venom, he or she usually spends one or two days in the hospital. After hospital discharge, patients will need to follow up twice a week for two weeks to watch for any signs of recurrent toxicity.

• Broad range of urgent care, well care and occupational health services • Open 7 days a week, including nights and weekends, 8 am to 8 pm • Convenient online tools at CareSpot.com.
