Meyerland 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee On this beautiful Sunday, September 21st, Lovett Elementary graciously allowed Meyerland to host an event celebrating 60 years of Meyerland’s history. With a team of hardworking committee members including Elizabeth Black Berry, Diane & Larry Furst, Cheryl Israel, Gerald Radack, Marlene Rocher, Gerda Gomez along with residents Rick & Elise Niefeld, Phyllis Rozen, Arthur Kay, David & Carol Neider, Evelyn Eyzaguirre, Teri Goldfield, Pat Mione and the MCIA staff, Amy Hoechstetter and Randi Cahill, the celebration was an overwhelming success. The affair was the most rewarding and best attended event MCIA has hosted in all of its 60 years of existence. Many visitors from our current community as well as some that have moved on to other communities, returned to see the displays of positive change and to walk down memory lane as they looked at all of the pictures of articles noting where we have been and where we are today. The entertainment provided to the guests was top notch. Mike, Dee Dee & Moondance kicked off the entertainment portion of the day with tunes loved by young and old. They were quickly followed by Kim’s TaeKwonDo students who showed great discipline and strength in their exhibition. The Bellaire High School’s eMotions Dance Company really got the crowd moving in their seats with their addictive dance style and the Dogs for Drug Enforcement kept all guests riveted as they moved through training exercises giving us all an appreciation of how they swiftly move to keep us safe. The entertainment culminated with another outstanding performance by the Lovett Band, Orchestra & Chorus. While all of this great entertainment was occurring, many others were enjoying the trip down memory lane. Displayed on boards lining the main hallway were pictures and articles of Meyerland’s past. It was a wonderful opportunity to see where Meyerland came from and how some things, like Lovett came to be. Also running was a video showing photos of the past and present shots of the Meyerland homes and the shopping center. Thanks to the Art Institute students for providing their impressions of the past
combined with the present. These beautiful displays will be kept by the association and some will adorn the walls of the Meyerland office. All of the guests were treated to snacks and drinks by our local eateries. We greatly appreciate James Coney Island, Firehouse Subs, Belden’s who also provided juice boxes, and moonpies. Also helping to keep visitors’ thirst quenched with water was Beth Wolff Realtors and teas from Café Express, samples from Chef Ellen, Edible Arrangements shared bites of fruit dipped in chocolate and Target provided popcorn. Lastly, we would like to thank Smoothie King for their sweet whipped samples. Special thanks goes to the Principal and Staff of Lovett Elementary School for the use of their facility. We are greatly appreciative of our sponsors, exhibitors, and residents in helping to make this a memorable and successful event. And to top it all off, Councilmember Ellen Cohen presented a proclamation declaring September 21, 2014 as Meyerland 60th Anniversary Celebration Day.

HOLIDAY HAPPINESS As Andy Williams sang to us “It’s the most wonderful time of the year”. The 2014 holiday season is upon us and Houston is gearing up for its spectacular season. There will plenty of activities and events this year including: The 65th Annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade ... The Grand Marshalls this year will be the stars of TLC’s The Little Couple, Bill Klein and Dr. Jennifer Arnold along with their children, Will and Zoey. The parade begins in downtown Houston at 9 a.m. The annual Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting will take place Thanksgiving evening on Post Oak Boulevard and is a free family event featuring live music and a special appearance from Santa. The lighting includes more than a half million twinkling lights on 80 trees along with a fireworks extravaganza. The 2014 TXU Energy Turkey Trot will take place Thanksgiving morning at 7 a.m. The race will benefit the Sheltering Arms Senior Services and will start in front of Dilliards at the Galleria. Bayou Bend is renowned for its annual Yuletide tradition of bringing Early American celebrations to life. This year the exhibition will include a children’s party at Andrew Jackson’s White House, a children’s tea party and dancing party in 1700’s Philadelphia, and a punch party for the sons
