“Ask the Board” A new communication tool for Woodwind Lakes residents

The HOA board members would like to introduce a new initiative to improve communication on matters concerning the community. ‘Ask the Board’ has been launched to allow residents the opportunity to ask questions regarding areas the HOA represents. All questions will be answered directly and will be printed in the monthly newsletter, however residents will remain anonymous. All Q’s & A’s will be available on the Woodwind Lakes website. If you wish to ask the board a question, please go to www.woodwindlakes.us/contact and complete the Ask the Board form. This is the best way to get a response from the HOA Board on questions you may have. Nextdoor is not used by the Board to communicate with residents. The Board would still like to encourage those who can attend the HOA monthly meetings to do so and there is a dedicated slot at 7:00 PM for residents who would like to address the board. DECEMBER 2015 Best Christmas Yard Decor Winners December awards for Yard of the Month are based solely on Christmas decorations. This year we awarded a special sign and an additional $25 gift card to the yard chosen by the Christmas Committee as the Best Christmas Yard Decor. The 2015 award went to 7731 Melody Circle. It was a very difficult decision as we had so many beautiful yards to select from this year. Thanks to everyone who decorated. We appreciate the gift you gave to the entire community!

Woodwind Lakes Woodwind Lakes HOA & Grounds Committee Update Happy New Year 2016 Please report any issues or concerns to Sterling ASI, our management company at servicedesk@sterlingasi.com. Nextdoor is not the official site for reporting issues or concerns. Below are a few examples of some of the work that has been done at Woodwind Lakes. As you walk around the common grounds you will see all the improvements and additions. Please visit www.Nextdoor.com or www.woodwindlakes.us to view photos of the improvements. 1. Trees around the trails at all 3 lakes were trimmed of large dead branches, the tree canopies were taken up and branches were thinned out for better wind ventilation and also to allow more sunlight to grass and flower beds. 2. The sidewalks on common grounds have all been leveled for safety and esthetics reasons. 3. Blooming perennial plants have been added to all 4 sections. 4. Several sinkholes have appeared around all 3 lakes recently. The holes have been repaired as quickly as possible with the assistance of MUD #261 and the work mostly by Greater Houston Landscape. 5. New ceiling fans at the pavilion were bought and new pool furniture at the adult pool.

Woodwind Lakes Senior Presents Rotary CyChristian Lady Lombardi Award Warriors Serve Families in Crisis CCS varsity football kicker Landen Nealy was chosen to announce the winner of the 46th Rotary Lombardi Award, given to the nation's best collegiate offensive/defensive lineman or linebacker. Nealy was selected to present the prestigious award because of his efforts to honor a former CCS football teammate, Vincent Salario, by raising funds for cancer research. CCS head football coach Jacob Spenn said, "We tell our players that being part of a team is being part of something bigger than ourselves." The CCS football program focuses on building godly men who will impact their culture for Christ. Coach Spenn and the CCS football players in attendance were recognized as Nealy and Vincent’s parents, Gregory and Lei Ann Salario, were brought on stage. The Rotary Lombardi Award was presented to Carl Nassib of Penn State.

Cypress Christian high school girls basketball players recently took time off from practice to serve families at the Mission of Yahweh, a faith-based shelter for women and children in northwest Houston. The teams donated their time and money to purchase more than $700 worth of toys, clothing and games for the children at the mission. Matthew 25:35-36: “I was hungry and you gave me food. I was alone and you invited me into your house. I was without clothes and you gave me something to wear.”

Woodwind Lakes Kids’ Track Team Season Starts February 15 The Northwest Flyers Track Club is now registering new and returning athletes for the 2016 spring and summer track season. All athletes new to the sport who are not on school track teams must pass a fitness test at their first practice in order to join the team. Practices are held on Mondays and Thursdays at Cypress Creek High School track, 9815 Grant Rd., Houston. The Northwest Flyers is a youth (ages 6 -18) track organization, affiliated with USA Track & Field. The club provides a full program of “track” events such as sprints, hurdles, middle distance, distance and relays, and “field” events such as long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, shot put and javelin. The club was founded 29 years ago by local Olympic gold medalist Fred Newhouse to foster the development of youth track & field in the northwest Houston area.
