SCIA BOD OBJECTIVES The SCIA BOD has many objectives, short term and long term. However, certain objectives are fundamental and ongoing. A core objective is to increase property values by improving the attractiveness of Steeplechase through repair, improvement and replacement of Association assets and Association deed restriction enforcement. Security and safety is also a key BOD objective. This involves working closely with MUD 168 and the contract deputies, having a Steeplechase Security Coordinator keep in touch with the deputies and informing residents about any security concern and issue. The BOD supports maintenance and development (as needed) of a variety of amenities (clubhouse, walking trail, pool community center, tennis courts, parks, etc.) that offer residents of all ages local opportunities for enjoyment. The BOD does not support amenities that are available nearby; e.g. track at Emmott Elementary. The BOD generates revenue through non-resident rental of the clubhouse or the pool community center as well as League play use of the tennis courts. This non-resident revenue supports maintenance of these facilities while promoting Steeplechase to non-residents. Resident input and participation is a fundamental BOD objective. The BOD has surveyed residents on a variety of topics in 2016 and 2017 and will survey residents again in 2019. Volunteer opportunities abound to work with standing BOD committees (social, landscaping, etc.), special BOD committees (explore a specific topic, e.g. pool fees, card access, etc.) and to execute various activities (Memorial Day barbeque, Easter egg hunt, etc.). The BOD encourages residents to participate in a committee or support a specific activity. Suggestions by residents for a community activity or event are welcomed. Volunteers are the backbone of the Association and the BOD is highly supportive of engaging residents in many ways.

PLANNED 2019 RESIDENT SURVEY TO UPDATE 2017 SURVEY RESULTS The SCIA BOD will survey residents in 2019 about topics similar to those surveyed in 2017. In addition to this 2017 survey, there was a 2016 resident survey about potential new amenities. For new residents and those who no longer have the 2017 survey results, the newsletter article is below. The BOD looks forward to your participation in the upcoming 2019 survey. Details will be announced in due course. 2017 RESIDENT SURVEY RESULTS (Published in the June 2017 newsletter) More than 10% of the households participated in the 2017 resident survey to help the BOD develop longer term plans for Steeplechase. Of the participants, 70% have lived in Steeplechase for more than 10 years with nearly 40% living in Steeplechase for more than 20 years. More than 60% of the households have no children under 18 living in their home. Nearly 80% stated that “attractiveness of the neighborhood” was a very important factor in moving into Steeplechase with more than half listing “Cypress-Fairbanks School District” as very important followed by about half identifying “the location of Steeplechase” as very important. (The BOD agrees that maintaining the attractiveness of Steeplechase is one of its responsibilities.) Almost 80% of the participants stated that the Association provided services meet their expectations. (The BOD is always open to resident input about the services provided.) Security (HCSO patrol) was the top concern for 75% of the respondents with deed restriction enforcement as the next ranked top concern with nearly 50%. (Security is a key objective of the BOD’s planning.) The survey results about amenity priorities are consistent with the 2016 Resident Survey about amenities. 40% said “no additional amenities” is the highest priority followed by more than 25% listing “splash pad” followed in order by the “exercise station” and “volleyball court”. (As noted in the summary of the 2016 Resident Amenity Survey, the BOD has decided that no additional amenity is planned for 2017 or 2018.) 70% said that they have “never” attended a monthly BOD meeting yet more than 60% said that they would attend additional meetings to express concerns and/or issues. (The BOD will evaluate what “additional meetings” might offer an opportunity for residents to express concerns or issues. Of course participation in the monthly meeting is welcome.) STEEPLECHASE (Continued from Page 2) With respect to the Sheriff’s patrol coverage, 70% said that the “current level of patrol should be maintained”. Finally, more than 75% supported renting the clubhouse facilities to non-residents at a higher rental rate than residents. (This is current practice.) In addition to the check box results summarized above, many comments and suggestions were added by the participants. There will be a series of newsletter articles addressing either specific comments/ suggestions or a common theme that threads through the various individual comments. Again, the BOD thanks everyone for their participation in this survey and will continue to offer additional opportunities for every resident to give input to the BOD and help to set direction for the future of Steeplechase. Remember that the BOD meetings, open to all residents, are held on the third Tuesday of every month except December. The start time is 6:30pm. The BOD would like to have every resident attend at least one BOD meeting each year.
OPEN RESIDENT DISCUSSION MEETING WITH BOD ON BUDGETED STEEPLECHASE NEW LED MESSAGE BOARD The SCIA BOD is holding an open resident discussion about a plan to install a LED sign at the clubhouse and relocate the existing manual marquee to the northwest corner of the intersection of Steepleway Blvd and Yearling. No decision will be finalized but any resident that has an interest in this project is urged to attend an open discussion about all the questions involved in such a project: Who? What? When? Where? Why?

STEEPLECHASE
TENNIS EVENT STATS & TENNIS COMMITTEE
Stats for Steeplechase Tennis Event 8 steeplechase families represented 13 Steeplechase players (two of these on Cy-Ridge tennis team) 3 players with membership 11 additional students from my junior program Grand total: 27 participants
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA! Join us for a wonderful event for the whole family Saturday, December 8th 8:00 am – noon
This number would've been very difficult without the help from my three assistant coaches, who donated their time for the event. We skipped video analysis due to the numbers, but had fast serve contest, tennis ball machine training and practice, and a lot of fun, games and competition for intermediate and advanced players (22 in that group) everyone seemed to have a great time. I would like to propose a tennis committee consisting of residents interested in the future direction of the tennis facility and activities for residents. Steve Suttles - Men's evening leagues and Men's competitive tennis Desirea Gaastra - Homeschool kids’ tennis, Junior tennis activities ages 4-8 years Edward Good - Special Olympics tennis, table tennis Additional committee member categories: • Advanced junior tennis/players looking to try out for high school tennis team, and played USTA tournaments • Social junior tennis events • Social adult tennis events I'd like to get started right away so that we can come up with a calendar of events for 2019. I am open to any comments suggestions and ideas, please let me know. Thanks, Rod Royer | 281-387-2925
