Boy Scouts Of America Troops 533 & 1907 Fundraiser Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and Rosehill United Methodist Church Boy Scouts from Troops 533 and 1907 announce their annual mulch and fertilizer sale – all orders will be delivered right to your door! The Boy Scout motto is “be prepared.” Well, Troops 533 and 1907 have taken that to heart, and for the last several years have run a local mulch/fertilizer sale to earn money to fund each year’s activities and purchase equipment. This year, they are preparing to experience the rugged outdoors at scout camps in Sweeny, Texas and Indiana. Scouts will also be attending Sea Base in the Bahamas. Such ambitious activities would not be possible without the support of the community! In addition to camping, the boys were able to participate in many service projects, including Wreaths Across America, Scouting for Food, Christmas Tree Recycling and completing multiple Eagle projects. Troops 533 and 1907 are gearing up for another great year and wish to extend a thank you to everyone who contributed to all the adventures and learning experiences of years past. So, if you are looking to beautify your landscape and bring your lawn back to life, all while helping your local scouts, then be sure to place your order! This year’s offerings include high quality Living Earth’s red, black, hardwood or pine bark mulch as well as Southwest Fertilizer’s premium or slow release fertilizer and weed n feed fertilizer. For your convenience, Scouts will be selling door to door in your subdivision beginning January 14th. Fairfield’s Fifty Plus Fun-Loving Group The Seniors of Fairfield are an active, fifty plus, fun-loving group of couples and singles who enjoy fellowship and various other activities together. If you or your spouse is fifty or older, a newcomer to Fairfield Village or have lived here in Fairfield for some time but have never attended one of our functions, you are cordially invited. Come and be a part of our fun-loving group. We’re sure you will enjoy it.

FEBRUARY FAIRFIELD 50 PLUS ACTIVITY SCHEDULE: Thursday, February 14th, our monthly Pot Luck at the Lakeside Club House. We start the pot luck at 6:30 pm. However, the doors open at 6:00 pm for socializing before the pot luck begins. There is always a nice variety of food and desserts. Tuesday, February 19th, our monthly Game Night at the Cooks’ House. It starts around 6:30 p.m. Just bring a little snack and a healthy appetite. This is always a fun evening with great fellowship. The directions are in the Activity page on our website and will also be in our February, 17 weekly newsletter. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE IN FEBRUARY: The first Friday, February 1st, and the third Friday, February 15th, we meet and have breakfast at Denny’s restaurant, the one located near Home Depot, for another opportunity to socialize and enjoy a delicious breakfast. We start ordering around 9 am. Again try to get there a little earlier for socializing. Then on the second Friday, February 8th, and the fourth Friday, February 22nd, we have game afternoons at the Lakeside clubhouse from 1pm to 4pm. We only play the card game hand and foot at these sessions. There are not any snacks or drinks, so if you like to drink or snack on something; you need to bring your own. Maybe their employment was suddenly terminated; maybe it’s a choice between medications or food; for whatever reason a family can find themselves in a situation where they need a little help. Fountain of Life Church of God on Mueschke Road runs a food pantry twice a month from 3:30 pm till 5 pm. Please call 281-3739337 for days of service. TEAM NICHOLS For those of you who have been following the progress of Team Nichols – made up of team members of eight adults and eight teens (teacher/ pastor, Rob’s co-worker, family friends, family members). Progress has been made, and momentum continues to build. Andrew says: "This year, I was honored to be nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s

2019 Student of the Year Campaign." The Student of the Year campaign is a seven-week fundraising competition to raise money to support LLS. The Mission of LLS is to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families through research, access to drugs, and advocacy. Team Nichols, my fundraising team, and I have high expectations to raise $35,000 with your help and support. We desire to make blood cancer a thing of the past! I am passionate about this campaign because in August 2014, the day before I entered middle school, my mom was diagnosed with a rare form of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (also known as ALL). Her cancer required 2½ years of aggressive treatment at MD Anderson. My mom’s battle with Leukemia deeply affected our family and every aspect of our lives. The only reason my mother is in alive and in remission is due to medical research breakthroughs and her clinical trial drug Ponatinib that she will

take every day for the rest of her life. This breakthrough drug has been possible due to the help of LLS funding research. This campaign will help raise funds to pursue more research and develop more ways to save lives like my mom. Best of all, it gives our family and support system a chance to use our unfortunate experience to impact others in a way that offers hope and one day finds a cure for blood cancers! The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all monetary donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by tax laws. CYPRESS PULSE School Athletes Can Register for Club Track Now in its 32nd year, the Northwest Flyers Track Club is accepting registrations for all middle and high school athletes for the spring and summer 2019 season. The team is sanctioned by USA Track & Field, and offers a full program of “track” events such as sprints, hurdles, middle distance, distance and relays, and “field” events such as long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put and javelin and pole vault. It is an excellent “offseason” program for young athletes who currently compete on their middle school or high school track teams. The team was founded 32 years ago by local Olympic gold medalist Fred Newhouse to foster the development of youth track & field in the northwest Houston area. In July, 2018 the Northwest Flyers had one of its most successful competitions ever at the Junior Olympics in Greensboro, NC. In order to register, athletes must first attend one of the orientation sessions in March or April, 2019, which are listed on the team website at www.northwestflyers.org.
