basketball, cards, dominos etc. All your family members including children are invited. We are asking each family member who attends to bring an extra dish that will feed up to ten folks. It can be your special recipe of rice & beans, macaroni and cheese or deep-dish apple pie. We want the vets to experience the joy and good taste of a home cooked dish. So, we need twelve (12) families to bring a side dish and ten (10) families to bring desserts.

Welcome to the first issue of the article that promises to keep you up to date on the latest LIVE music happenings in Cypress! I thought I would start out by introducing myself. My name is Joyce. I’m as native to Cypress as Tin Hall, Jeurgen’s Hall or The Shack. I’m a mom, wife, singer, artist and writer. My most recent venture being the Lead Vocalist in my band, Hurry Sundown of Cypress, TX. It’s been an amazing ride getting to be up-close and personal - on the stage and off, with some of the coolest, most talented musicians who play in Cypress or are from the Cypress Area. This article aims to enlighten you, entertain you and who knows, maybe even inspire you. Bringing awareness to local live music brings people to local business and helps support them. Making it as a musician is no easy task – trust me. The most valuable thing to a performer is receiving support from US – the FANS. GOT NEWS TO SHARE? The Bridgeland Times - May 2021

Imagine leaving your current living situation with nothing but the clothes on your back! This is the unfortunate reality for thousands of children placed in the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) care each year within Harris County. This is also where BEAR…BE A Resource for CPS Kids, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that provides hope and help for abused and neglected children and the caseworkers who protect them within Harris County, steps in. BEAR has been providing basic needs and supportive services to these children for more than 20 years. In March, Abigail Behrens, Cypress native and current sophomore at Cy-Woods High School, completed her 4th service project benefiting BEAR. Abigail’s journey began seven years ago with Education in Action’s Lone Star Leadership Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people to become informed and active leaders in their communities. All active members of the LSLA Alumni Council must create and lead a service project each year. Having a soft spot in her heart for children, Abigail felt that BEAR’s honorable mission was a perfect match to dedicate her time and resources to. Abigail’s three previous service projects have provided 50 backpacks full of supplies, 145 BEAR necessity packs, and 246 toys. This year brought its own unique set of challenges with the pandemic, social distancing protocols, and her home church merging into another church which hindered her typical avenue of asking for donations. The solutions…GOFUNDME and SOCIAL MEDIA! She established a GoFundMe page and used social media, phone calls, and emails to expand her support network to raise funds needed to purchase supplies to provide BEAR Necessity Packs once again. Each pack includes shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothbrush, and toothpaste with an addition of a face mask for this year. After raising more than $1,300.00, Abigail was able to purchase enough supplies to provide 254 BEAR necessity packs. With the help of her friends and family, Eleanor Behrens, Isabel Prejean, Aiza Khalid, and Ariel Canton, they were able to pack all 254 packs in about 30 minutes. Job well done, ladies, and thank you to everyone in and around the Fairfield community for supporting this young lady and the mission of BEAR. Look for her next service project in the coming year! THE TIMES Travels and More For Seniors In Cypress Submitted by JoAnn Lambert The Traveling Seniors of Cypress rode the rails, on March 17, on the Texas State Railroad, a historic 25-mile heritage railroad between Rusk and Palestine, Texas. TSR, built by inmates, was founded in 1883 by Texas to haul raw materials for a smelter at the prison in Rusk. Regular service on the line was ended in 1921. The state leased the line to private companies until 1969, then turned it over to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1972. In 2007, the railroad was transferred to the Texas State Railroad Authority and is now privately operating as a scenic tourist line. You can view a video of this trip at https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/526732305. On April 7, the Classic Adults of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and The Traveling Seniors of Cypress ventured to Chappell Hill together. Fifty-two seniors bought tasty treats at Chappell Hill Bakery, then they were off to the Chappell Hill Historical Society Museum. The group enjoyed lunch at Lone Star Southern Grill, explored the Burton Farmers Cotton Gin, treated themselves to ice cream at Bluebell Creamery, then had their pictures taken amongst the bluebonnets, The Traveling Seniors of Cypress is a group of people aged 50 and older, mainly from Cypress (but you don't have to reside in Cypress to travel with them) who take day trips and extended excursions together.
