BRIARHILLS

MAY 2021 VOLUME 10, ISSUE 05 The Official Publication of The Briarhills POA

A Message from Your Landscaping Committee Dear Neighbors, Thank you for all of your donations during the brick fundraising effort this winter. Thanks to your support we raised enough money to build a patio together. The bricks are so fun to look at and are now on permanent display in front of the clubhouse and in front of the wildflower patch. Also a big thank you to all the amazing volunteers who gave us their time and lent a hand in the garden when needed! Because of your help we continue to beautify the grounds, maintain our native and low maintenance plants and are building a patio and more flowerbeds on the west side of the clubhouse this year. Enjoy the Memorial Day and see you in the garden!

Your Briarhills Landscaping Committee PS: Thanks for the mysterious artist(s) decorating our flowerbeds with wonderful inspirational rocks! Have you seen them?

Briarhills Clubhouse Rentals The Briarhills POA Board of Directors voted to re-open the clubhouse this month (May). Please visit the briarhillspoa.org website for information on how to reserve the clubhouse for your private event.

The BPOA board and the BPOA’s legal team have drafted an amendment to the Bylaws in order to bring the Bylaws up to date with Texas State code. The Bylaws govern only the operations of the Board of Directors, how meetings are run, voting and election procedures, responsibilities of the board, etc. There are no changes being made to the Deed Restrictions or Declarations at this time. The proposed changes have now been posted on the homepage of the BPOA’s website. The board encourages POA residents to view the document and comment. The BPOA board will approve the changes with a majority vote by the board at the upcoming board meeting on Monday, May 10th.

Briarhills Tennis Courts Reservations Due to repeat offenses and abuses of the online booking system and the increase pressure of getting time on the tennis courts, the Briarhills Tennis Committee and POA Board agreed to make the following changes to the online booking system: 1. Rolling a reservation is not allowed and members that do so may have their access to the amenities suspended. It is has been brought to the BPOA’s attention that some residents book early in the day, then roll a 2-hour window reservation, effectively having a monopoly of the court, until the time they actually intend to play. This is not the intended use of the reservation system and is extremely inconsiderate of other players. 2. Reservation time is limited to 90 minutes. Previously the time for each reservation was 120 minutes, however, many players do not use the whole time and end up leaving early. By making the reservation time shorter we open the court and allow more families to potentially use the facility. 3. The number of bookings in a 7-day interval is limited to max 3 times per account. Previously, residents could book 7 times in 7 days, and there are some that do just that. However, our tennis courts are a neighborhood facility and not a tennis club. Most recreational tennis players play 3 times a week. Those that would like to play every day should consider joining a tennis club. Continued on Page 5 Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.

BRIARHILLS Continued from Page 4 However, if the court is open, you can still walk on and play, assuming that those that booked the court did not show up. Our online reservation system is a simple program and we are unable to set up controls for people that want to circumvent the rules. We rely on the honor system and members using the system as intended. Members that are found to be in violation of the rules, risk their amenity access being suspended. Your questions, suggestions and or concerns can be emailed to officemanager@briarhillspoa.org. Briarhills Grounds With kids wrapping up the school year and more families out and using the park grounds more frequently, we ask everyone to please do your part and pick up any trash or litter you see left on the ground. Also, if you are planning a picnic, outdoor birthday party or gathering with friends, please consider bringing your own trash bag and taking home with you larger waste items such as pizza boxes, cake boxes, food to go containers, drink bottles, etc. The park trash cans are not meant to hold large and bulky items. Also, if the container becomes too full, please try to find another container that is less full instead of leaving trash lying on the ground or outside the receptacles. And finally, pet owners, please be sure and clean up after your pet when you are out for a walk. Let’s all work together and do our part to keep Briarhills Beautiful!
