Jester Neighbors, Hello to all! Hopefully, everyone and their families are enjoying a safe and fun summer. I am sorry to report that the JHOB will not be hosting a July 4th Parade this year. It was decided that with Covid still of concern, and with the need of High School volunteers to help with the event, a July 4th gathering could not be planned. Please note: JHOA social activities desperately need neighborhood volunteers. Because adults have not stepped forward, we have had to rely on local teens doing school sponsored community service. If you can volunteer for future events, please contact our hard working Social Chair, Teresa Gouldie. Additionally, and of grave concern to the Jester neighborhood, is the vandalizing and theft from our cluster mailboxes. A mailbox on Jester Blvd was vandalized, and the Post Office is very slow to repair or replace. If you happen to observe anyone tampering with the mailboxes, please contact 911. Lastly, the JHOB is meeting quarterly. Meetings are set on weekdays at 7 pm on a day when board members can attend. The exact date, time and address will be posted on Jester's Facebook page and website. Currently, the next meeting is set for Tuesday August 31, 2021 at 7 pm at 7117 Foxtree Cove. Since the date or place may possibly change, please be sure to check our Facebook page and website. JHOB hopes everyone has a wonderful summer, and we will do our best to keep everyone informed of issues that affect our community. Best Wishes, Eva Wisser

There are many neighbors who walk and jog through the neighborhood often, some daily even. More recently, there have been many neighbors placing their bins on the sidewalks rather than in the streets. This practice can make it difficult for the many parents, grandparents and caregivers who are pushing little ones in strollers, and others feel much safer on sidewalks than in the streets. This has become a safety concern for many, and has prompted a gentle reminder to please place your bins in the street. Likewise, per our HOA guidelines, bins should not sit out all week, but should be pulled up out of the street weekly. Thanks to you all for your understanding and cooperation!

Spotlight on the Board With gratitude to the neighbors who share invaluable input for both The Warbler and for our community of Jester in general, we felt it was time to start a new monthly feature article—Spotlight on the Board! This month’s spotlight on the Jester Home Owners Board of Directors is Carol Philipson. As a long-time Jester resident since 1991, and having moved twice within Jester from Phoenix, Carol is extremely active in our neighborhood! Not only does she serve as the Chair of the Jester Welcome Committee and the Firewise Committee, Carol is also actively involved in the Safety Committee. Additionally, she actively volunteers

Let’s get more of our neighborhood’s youth involved with the Warbler! We welcome submissions of all ages, and are happy to share different types of content. If your child has an interest in photography, send us a photo or two! If they want to submit a story, poem or writing of any other sort, send that on too! We are excited to see the creativity of the young minds of Jester! Please send any submissions to hopeteel@gmail.com. Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.

with environmental and animal organizations including BCP, PARD, Friends of the Balcones Canyonlands National Refuge, Austin Wildlife Rescue, SOS, Sierra Club. Thank you for your service to the community, Carol! The Jester Warbler - July 2021

Facebook Group Reminder

This is your monthly, friendly reminder to join our Jester HOA Facebook group if you haven’t already! The page is still growing, with almost 230 members now. Just do a quick search for “Jester HOA” on Facebook, and please answer the questions in order for approval into the group. I can speak from recent experience as to the great resource this page has been for us recently! Not only did we enlist the help of a fantastic young neighbor to do some excellent yardwork for us, but after a chair supplier fell through last minute before an event at our home, we found a gracious neighbor who loaned us the chairs we needed plus more! Check it out!

Firewise Home Evaluation Number 16 By Carol Philipson

So far this year, we've had 16 concerned residents complete their FireWise Evaluation, including Phil Marks on Asherton Cove. In fact, Phil is so interested in keeping his family AND his neighbors safe, that he is joining the Jester FireWise Committee to help spread the word. Phil had unknowingly completed many of the suggested Firewise precautions already. Thumbs up for stacking his firewood at the back of his yard rather than under the deck or near his home. We are slightly behind last year's evaluations, which totaled 20, so let’s keep pace with 2020— protect your investment, and more importantly your family! Sign up for your evaluation by emailing me at firewise@jesterhoa.com.

Texas Wildfire

Some of you may have noticed that there are more and more Electric Vehicles driving along the streets of Jester Estates these days. Lots of Teslas, Model S, Model 3s , Xs and Ys, Nissan Leafs, Chevy Bolts and even a few Ford Mustangs EV. Don’t forget the Audi e-Tron, Porsche Taycan, BMW i3, Honda Clarity, Hyundai Ioniq, Mercedes Benz B Class Electric, Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.3. There is good reason for this. There are now dozens of EVs to choose from in all price ranges, and the only real maintenance for an all-electric vehicle is tire rotation. No mufflers, radiators, oil changes, transmission, antifreeze, exhaust systems etc. Of course, you may have to refill your windshield washer fluid once in a while. Don’t forget that there are also lots of Plug-in Hybrids that also use gas and oil, but that get great mileage. While most folks will charge up at night in the garage with either a 110 or 220 outlet, others may want to lower their home usage by using the Austin Energy ChargePoint card. For $25, Austin Energy allows you to charge in over 1000 charging stations in Austin for 6 months, and all of that power comes from wind so it is super clean. These are located at stores, gyms, restaurants, libraries, work places, hotels, grocery stores and lots more. In fact, we have 8 of them just down the Jester Boulevard hill at Ladera Bend. Four are located in the covered parking garage and the other four are behind each of the large commercial buildings. Can you imagine spending $50 for a full year of fuel? So, if you want to save money, clean the air and help Jester Estates remain the number one green neighborhood, go for a test drive or give me a call. 6

Several new resources have been added to the Jester HOA website (thanks to Ron Herzfeld) related to wildfires and Firewise. Every resident, including non-HOA-member, should watch the videos to be prepared in case of evacuation, if you were unable to attend the webinar. Visit www.jesterhoa.com –See Important Jester Wildfire Programs – Click on the Firewise Page. There you will find the link to the “Ready, Set, Go” booklet discussed during the Webinar, plus an additional two videos. The first video, “Jester Evacuation Program,” was recorded from the May 20th webinar. The second video, “Jester Estates Wildfire Webinar, One Year later, September 2011” shares the fire simulation done using the SIM table model. It shows clearly that the Jester neighborhood has limited access and is surrounded by fuel. The last simulation relates to traffic during an evacuation; both topics were discussed on May 20th. Answers to some of the questions from the chat during the webinar will be available soon. Other important information: It is imperative to sign up ar www.warncentraltexas.org to receive warnings and instructions that will affect you and your decisions before and if evacuation is necessary. You will not receive random warnings about weather, silver alerts, etc. As a friendly reminder, the very first step in keeping your family and home safe is to sign up for your FireWise Home Evaluation at firewise@jesterhoa.com. Preparing in advance can keep you from making costly and/or deadly mistakes that will likely be made without receiving a personalized plan for your home. Please pass this information on to your neighbors that may not read The Warbler or the NextDoor page, as the more prepared neighbors we have, the safer we all will be. Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.
