Come out for our annual 4th of July Parade and Picnic! The fun happens on Thursday, July 4th from 10:00 am to Noon. Decorate those wagons, strollers, bikes, and scooters and come out to march with your neighbors in the parade. If you don’t want to decorate your stuff or walk, please come out and cheer on those in the parade, it is a sight to see! The parade will start promptly at 10 AM on the corner of Witte and Negley and continue down Witte to McNaughton Park with the picnic to follow. Bring the whole family and enjoy the fun. Come out and make noise with the Hays High School drumline. Parade will be led by Kyle Fire Department and Kyle Police Department. We will have lunch for you at the park but be sure to bring blankets and lawn chairs for you to sit and eat on. The pool will be open, but we'll also have a dual-lane, land slide this year (not a water slide). Watermelon provided by Allison Pflaum, Hays Home Team. We are looking for volunteers to help us cook and serve. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact the Recreation Committee at recreation@ plumcreektxhoa.com Plum Creek Post - July 2021 1

If you have not received a welcome bag within two months after the closing, you can email welcome@plumcreektxhoa.com 4. Parking in the back alleys is prohibited. These alleys are for ingress and egress only. You can park in driveway or in your garage. The front streets have limited street parking and are usually public streets maintained by City of Kyle. Try not to block your neighbor’s house. 5. Garbage pickup is on Tuesdays. The trash and recycling cans need to be stored out of view by the following day to prevent getting a violation notice. The recycling schedule is located on the City of Kyle website under http://www.cityofkyle.com/ utilitybilling/city-kyle-solid-waste-collection-information 6. Xeriscaping is allowed in Plum Creek. To add xeriscaping you must submit an Architectural Review Committee Approval Application (ARC form) with an installation plan and the survey. This form can be found on Home page of the website and in the Community Pages> Architectural Changes on the Plum Creek HOA resident website. Review Architectural Guidelines. 7. Any permanent exterior improvements to the house requires approval from the Architectural Review Committee. Review information in the Architectural Changes menu link on the website: www.plumcreektxhoa.com. 8. Whether you are a renter or buyer, your yard is important, so you’ll need to keep it maintained- mow, edge, weed and trim shrubs and trees regularly. 9. Enjoy the pool! If you do not have a pool key or recreational ID or your pool key does not work, contact the Plum Creek HOA office. 10. Quarterly mailed billing statements are issued to all residents. Owners will receive a payment statement which will provide a payment history for the new homeowner account. You can set up an automatic draft at www.townsq.io with the account number on the quarterly billing statement. Continued on Page 4

The Welcome Committee continues delivering Welcome tote bags to new residents. However, in July we plan to resume meeting with new residents, as well, now that the COVID restrictions have eased. We are also resuming Game Night and Pot Luck events at the Plum Creek Community Center. The next game night is tentatively scheduled for Saturday July 10th at 6PM. Initially, we will ask that all participants be vaccinated and wear masks, (when not eating or drinking). The Welcome Committee will provide snacks and drinks rather than have residents bring anything. The next Pot Luck date is TBA.

Recently, our Beautification Division has had issues with its street sweeper. While the City would love to be able to help dispose of leaves (we know there are a lot!) and yard waste, the street sweeper isn’t intended for large volumes. When it tries, it overheats and requires repair. To help keep our little sweeper on the road, the City asks residents to avoid pushing any yard waste and leaves into the roadway. Here are resources you can use to get rid of all those leaves and yard debris. As a Kyle Utility customer, Plum Creek neighborhood residents have access to the following yard waste options. Lean more by visiting www. cityofkyle.com/waste 10 bags can be picked up every other week with the green waste cart. The bags should be placed next to green cart and can include tree trimmings, yard clippings, branches, and brush. 2 requests for bulky pickups per year. These pickups can be up to 3 cubic yards in size and can include furniture, appliances but also yard waste. Yard waste must be bundled, tied and cut into four (4) foot lengths, not to exceed 35 pounds per bundle. Limbs within the bundle must be no more than four (4) inches in diameter. To schedule bulky pickup, call 512-329-1758. City of Kyle hosts an annual Neighborhood Cleanup event that residents to bring their bags, bulky waste and the junk piling up in the corners and drop it off for free. The date for the 2021 event hasn’t been confirmed but once it is set, info will be shared. Lastly, while the city doesn’t want to suspend service, to save our street sweeping equipment, roadways with excessive yard waste and leaves from private properties will have to be avoided for service.
PLEASE TRIM THOSE TREES!

Due to safety concerns, the HOA is evaluating street and yard trees that encroach on the sidewalk and streets. Since these trees belong to the homeowner, we want to provide residents with the opportunity to prune their own trees. The HOA requests that you prune your trees seven (7) feet above the sidewalk to prevent injury and fourteen (14) feet to prevent damage to emergency vehicles. Corner lots and round about lots need to clear limbs for sight distance of traffic signs and oncoming vehicular traffic at intersections. City of Kyle and Texas Disposal Systems drive through Plum Creek to inspect for drivability for large fire trucks and waste removal trucks. When raising your tree’s canopy, follow proper pruning techniques, including cleaning tools between trees and wound spraying any cuts on all OAK trees to prevent Oak Wilt. For information and diagrams about pruning visit: www.treesaregood.org http://texastreeplanting.tamu.edu/PruneYoungTree.html www.plumcreektxhoa.com For information about contacting local certified arborists or for questions or concerns about pruning, feel free to contact the Garden Committee at garden@plumcreektxhoa.com So, get out there with your clippers and let’s clear those sidewalks and streets! Trash cans, trash cans, trash cans... With three trash cans , many residents are struggling with how to stow them. The deed restrictions read as follows:
(H) - House Cleaning
Not Available Online (CS) - Computer Services ( B R ) - Mi n o r Bi k e Repairs (BB) - Basketball Lesons (SB) - Softball Lessons (DW) - Dog Walking (HS) - House Sitting (PW) - Power Washing
ATTENTION TEENAGERS
The Teenage Job Seekers listing service is offered free of charge to all Plum Creek teenagers seeking work. Submit your name and information to advertising@PEELinc.com by the 8th of the month!
However, rules can be difficult to interpret, so here are some general guidelines. 1. The trash cans should be out of the alley paving. They cannot be stored on the strip between your fence and the alleyway paving. 2. The trash cans should be screened from view with either a fence, lattice, or even, plants. Of course, when trying to hide the trash cans, priority would be given to the front of the home (and side of the home when a corner lot). In other words, it's more important to hide them from the street view than the alley view, but ideally, the receptacles should be screened from all streets and alleys. 3. They should be neatly stowed. Trash cans be stored behind a fence. 4. They cannot be stored in the driveway. If you have decided that you just cannot deal with three cans, you can contact TDS at 1-800-375-8375. They will collect them. However, you will still pay for the service via your garbage bill, even if you use only 1 trash can.

PLUM CREEK POST You Light It, We Write It
Kyle PD says zero tolerance of fireworks in city limits Kyle Police are taking a tougher stance on fireworks popped off within city limits. Kyle city ordinance does not allow the general public to light fireworks inside the city. Police Chief Jeff Barnett said effective immediately, those who set off fireworks inside the city limits will be issued citations, not warnings. He said the number of calls complaining about fireworks has increased every year since he started with KPD. "Our officers run on hundreds of calls on nights like July 4th and New Year's Eve as complaints are called in," he said. "Fireworks are fun for those setting them off, but not much fun for pets, sleeping children, and military veterans and others with PTSD." Kyle Fire Chief Kyle Taylor said fireworks are a real hazard and can cause significant damage to people and property. "Kyle Fire Department recommends leaving explosives to the pyrotechnical experts," he said. Barnett said the Kyle City Council directed his department to enforce the ordinance. "With the council's support, we are taking a more proactive yet hard line approach," he said. He encourages Kyle residents to avoid citations and comply with the ordinance. Instead of a ticket, Barnett and Taylor recommend folks head over to the city's annual Fireworks Extravaganza at Plum Creek Golf Course and the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center. This free family-friendly event includes free music and a great seat for watching the show, which begins at dark. I looked across my living room the other day and noticed a green glob on the wall. I try to keep a fairly clean house so I was a little surprised to see this and wondered what the heck it was. I walked over for a closer look and realized it was a green tree frog! Now how did this little guy get in my house? I guess it doesn’t matter—I just had to get it out. Success. He’s now outside where he belongs. American tree frogs can be found around just about any body of water from Delaware to Florida, in the Gulf states, in Arkansas, eastern Texas, western Tennessee and Kentucky and parts of southern Illinois and Missouri. In Texas, their range is relatively small. They reside east of the I-35 corridor throughout the piney woods and coastal prairies ecoregions. The most interesting thing about the American green tree frog is that they can change color. When it’s resting and is cool, the frog will be gray in color. Once it warms up and is active, it turns vivid green. Male tree frogs are noisy little things. During mating season, March to October, they produce a nasal honk or bark which they repeat up to 75 times per minute. Their mating call is distinct from their other calls and is used to defend their territory or to announce rainfall. Rainfall is especially important to them since breeding takes place after a rain. After a male fertilizes a female’s eggs, she deposits the clutch in shallow water among aquatic plants. Depending on the area of the country, a clutch can be from 700 eggs to 2100! The eggs hatch in about a week and the tadpoles turn into frogs in about a month. When full-grown, they’ll only be about two and a half inches long. Tree frogs have interesting feet. They have sucker-like adhesive disks on the end of their fingers and toes which they need to aid in climbing and clinging to grasses and floating vegetation. Their diet consists of mosquitoes, flies, crickets, moths and other small insects. Tree frogs live in groups called an army or chorus. They are largely nocturnal and breathe through their skin.
