2021 Briarhills POA Board Elections Information The Briarhills Property Owners Association will elect new board members in September. The new Board of Directors will be instated at the September Annual Meeting. Please check the POA website and POA emails for updates on the election process. The following are bios of those running for positions on the board of directors: JAMES GILMER James Gilmer is a current board member and developed the Briarbeat, Movie Night and executed 4th of July celebration for the last few years successfully. I am interested in getting back on the Board to help move this community forward. I will be transparent and honest to all of our neighbors. This community needs a change in somebody like me to address their needs on the Board and I am your guy. I hold a MBA in Marketing and a BA in Communications. ALEC LUONG My name is Alec Luong. I WILL RUN FOR A POSITION. Bio: I have been on the board since and have worked tirelessly to improve the neighborhood. Highlights include: managing the approval and construction of the new clubhouse and pool repairs, writing the new POA bylaws that focus on long term savings and more resident involvement, updating the old file management system and moving to a completely paperless system. I also wrote the Terraces of Memorial agreement that helped bring in more shared revenue and offset increases in dues a number of years ago. This next term I hope to focus on rewriting the deed restrictions and declarations to give more power of enforcement to the community and ensure that property values remain protected moving into the next decade. Alec HERNAN ZAPATA Hernan wants to continue supporting Briarhills' sense of community and collaboration of our residents. In his current role as Vice President, he focuses on the legal aspects of our community. During this next term, Hernan hopes to continue working on our bylaws and legal documents to newer standards. In his view, this effort is best done with the feedback and support of our community members. This would include hosting Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.
listening and feedback sessions during the next term. Hernan Zapata is a parent of two kids, Gaby and Seby, and married to Meycy; together they moved to Houston 9 years ago. He frequently volunteers in community events such as the Houston Food Bank, Park and beach clean-up; as well road biking and running events. At work, Hernan leads a mechanical engineering team in rotating equipment supporting projects for a global company. Hernan is an active member of the mentoring program at his company as well as member of the American Petroleum Industry standards team for Steam Turbines. He currently holds a mechanical engineering degree (2001), a professional engineering license (2008), and an MBA (2011).
On behalf of the Property Owners Association, we thank you for attending our 4th of July Celebration. It was a great community event and we loved seeing our residents get together and mingle with one another. We appreciate your participation despite the uncertain rain forecast. We received many compliments about our vendors and their knowledge of the products and services. Thank you for your time and support of this event. We would like to extend a BIG thank you to board member, James Gilmer, and his wife, Audrey, for all of their hard work executing the event. James planned and coordinated the event and then worked many hours the day of the event in the hot sun to make sure everything went off without a hitch. Audrey, worked non-stop and happily served all of the neighborhood children cotton candy! We also would like to say thanks to board member, Maria Galiotos, and her husband, John, for all of their help too. From set up to clean up, they pitched in and kept everything running smoothly. To anyone interested in helping next year, please keep an eye out in May and June for more information on how you can help us organize an even bigger and better event in 2022! Again, thank you all for a wonderful time! We hope to see you at our next community event this fall! Briarhills - August 2021

An Update from Your Landscaping Committee The community garden is blooming nicely. The gardeners are now directed to focus on good edging to give the garden a clean and orderly look. The landscaping committee planted flowers around the marquee. Volunteers “Adopt a Spot” and water sections of the garden if it has not rained for a while. The bluebonnets and wildflower patch have received a rejuvenating mow. Thank you to Doerte Steinhoff, Caryolyn Klein and all of our community volunteers for your work on the community garden!
