A huge thank you to all our neighbors who made this 4th of July Party such a great success! We were prepared for a busy night, but we were positively surprised to see how many of our families were able to join us to celebrate our Independence Day. An enormous thank you to our fabulous volunteers: Shel Saripella for taking care of the food trucks, Christine White de Ciro for the snow cone truck and balloon artist, Jos Bekker, Kevin Pipkins, Mike and Sam Vatankha for an absolutely amazing fireworks show, Edgar Perez and family for the music and all the help, Ginger and Rob Rome for leading the children’s parade, Melinda and Rob Wilson for the organization and decorations, Angela Vatankha, Gaynor Richardson, Sue & John Strebel, John Jondle and many more for all your help. We couldn’t have done it without you. We hope the residents enjoyed our event and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next one! Be sure to befriend us on Facebook @LOE Social Committee to stay up to date on all events! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy summer 2021!

Book Club is currently meeting in the LOE clubhouse. Plenty of room, masks optional. We welcome anyone to join us! Usually the 4th Monday of each month at 7:30 PM (we sometimes move the date because of holidays, so check with celeste.fritz@ gmail.com ) Don’t forget about LOE’s Little Free Library located at the bus stop in front of the clubhouse! Take a book / leave a book. August 23, The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate Louisiana, 1875: In the tumultuous era of Reconstruction, three young women set off as unwilling companions on a perilous quest: Hannie, a freed slave; Lavinia, the pampered heir to a now destitute plantation; and Juneau Jane, Lavinia’s Creole half sister. Each carries private wounds and powerful secrets as they head for Texas, following roads rife with vigilantes and soldiers still fighting a war lost a decade before. For Lavinia and Juneau Jane, the journey is one of stolen inheritance and financial desperation, but for Hannie, torn from her mother and siblings before slavery’s end, the pilgrimage west reignites an agonizing question: Could her long-lost family still be out there? Beyond the swamps lie the limitless frontiers of Texas and, improbably, hope. Louisiana, 1987: For first-year teacher Benedetta Silva, a subsidized job at a poor rural school seems like the ticket to canceling her hefty student debt—until she lands in a tiny, out-of-step Mississippi River town. Augustine, Louisiana, is suspicious of new ideas and new people, and Benny can scarcely comprehend the lives of her poverty-stricken students. But amid the gnarled live oaks and run-down plantation homes lie the century-old history of three young women, a long-ago journey, and a hidden book that could change everything. Books are a great way to beat the heat!.....

Reminder As schools resume, please be aware that buses may be in LOE. Use extra caution around buses and especially when nearing an active loading zone. All drivers must STOP for any school bus with its flashers on. LOE Security Officers are monitoring the school bus loading zones and enforcing the safety procedures. Please follow their instructions to keep our students safe! Clubhouse Bus Stop When dropping off or picking up students at the Clubhouse Bus Stop please use the parking lot in front of the clubhouse to avoid the bus having to maneuver around parked vehicles. Only when the parking lot is full is parking allowed on west side (Clubhouse side) of Lake Center Run, but please be mindful that the bus needs plenty of space at bus stop for students to safely get on and off the bus. Parking, drop off and pick up on the east side of Lake Center Run and on the Clubhouse access road are prohibited at all times. The space between the club house access road and the bridge has been designated bus loading zone and should remain unobstructed during active loading hours. The speed limit in this area has been reduced to 20 mph and will be strictly enforced.
Please consider inspecting all the trees on your property for dead or weak limbs that may fall on sidewalks or neighbor’s yards and for your own personal safety. Any trees in front and side yards should be trimmed to at least 8’ above sidewalks. Many original pear trees are nearing the end of their 20-25 year normal life span and may need replacing. Several large limbs came down during the recent wind and rain storms causing streets to be blocked resulting in emergency calls to tree companies. Any trees backing up to common areas should be trimmed on all sides remembering to clean up any limbs and tree debris that may have fallen on common areas.
Other ISD Bus Stops All parents are encouraged to park on the same side as the school bus to prevent children from crossing the streets.

Maintenance/Project Highlights for July • Made progress removing and replacing plants damaged by freeze earlier in the year. Some of the restoration is being delayed by availability of new plants and/or summer heat. • Overhauled door handle & dead bolt locks for pool equipment room, swim team room, and storage closet. • ATT repaired TV in Gym. Lesson learned. If TV screen says reboot the receiver, it’s necessary to unplug the power cord. Turning the receiver Off/On will not work. • Restored venting louvers on three Equipment Room doors. • Replaced fogged window for Clubhouse main room. • Stopped Flex Room TV from turning on even though no one was there. Problem was caused by a homeowner reprogramming this TV so their iPhone could be used as a remote control. This is not allowed. This TV should be controlled from the control panel on the adjacent wall. None of the manual controls on the TV should ever be touched.
