LOE PEAR TREE REPLACEMENT AND MAINTENANCE Pear trees are reaching the natural end of their lifespan. Several occasions have occurred recently where pear tree limbs have fallen with no notice as pedestrians walk by or witnessed these limbs falling. Pear tree limbs on homeowner’s side yards are also regularly falling during storms and blocking streets. Trees may appear green and growing but in reality, these tree limbs are often hollow and can break just from the weight of the limb. All trees should be routinely pruned to maintain shape and a clearance of at least 8’ above sidewalks, streets and driveways. However, homeowners may want to consider removing any pear trees in your front or side yards to avoid an emergency removal and possible injuries to neighbors or vehicles. Originally, 5 pear trees were planted along the fence line of side yards for most all corner lots. That requirement for 5 trees in the side yard has been reduced to 2 trees of any variety. There is a Tree Resolution located on the LOE website which provides a list of suggested Texas friendly trees to be considered when replacing trees. Homeowners should seek ACC approval for any changes to their landscaping. This is a quick and easy process designed to ensure the overall attractiveness of our community. The HOA has a tree maintenance, removal, and replacement plan in place with pear tree removal as a high priority. Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.

We are continuing to see contractors/vendors trying to enter through the Tanner Road gates. Residents, please communicate with your vendors that they must use the front gate on Eldridge Parkway. There have also been a few close calls of accidents due to vendors trying to come in the exit gate. It is also not acceptable to come out to meet your contractors/visitors and open the gates with your clicker. The gates are there for every resident’s protection and safety. Please be respectful of your neighbors and instruct your contractors and visitors to enter the community through the main gate on Eldridge Parkway.

Palm Tree Trimming Reminder It has been noted that many palm trees need trimming or possibly removal if they have not recovered from freeze earlier this year. Please inspect all your trees in your front, side, and back yard including any trees behind your garage and trim as necessary. Maintenance/Project Highlights for August Maintenance/Project Highlights • Removed 6 dying pear trees in front of Clubhouse. A large limb fell onto playground area earlier this month without warning. There was concern that this area is very active with schools starting up and wanted to avoid any branches falling when children are around or falling on parked cars. A landscaping plan is being developed for the area. • Replaced about a dozen cracked sections of common area sidewalk which were a tripping hazard. Also repaired the red & black street accents that were badly damaged at two village entrances and the clubhouse entrance. • Repaired the deck expansion joints around the baby pool. • Reattached the volleyball catch rope in Lake A which came loose when the lake level increased about 1’ above normal. • Replace damaged red coping and damaged/missing blue water level tiles for the main swimming pool at the Clubhouse.
LOE Community Recycle Day Saturday, October 2nd 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Clubhouse Recycling day is back! Document shredding will be by Texas Security Shredding. Bring your documents in a box or bag. Staples, paper clips or binder clips do not need to be removed. No limit. JD Metals will handle disposal of metal items (copper, iron, brass, aluminum, etc.) including bed/storage/server racks and rails, scales, food service equipment, small appliances (toaster ovens, hair dryers, gaming consoles, shredders, vacuums, etc.) & car batteries. They will take pretty much anything that has an ON/OFF switch. There will be a $25 charge for TV disposal (flat screen or tube). Also, you may arrange for pickup of large metal items at the curb such as trampolines, appliances, lawn furniture, swing sets, etc. Electronic items accepted include, but are not limited to, computers and printer/scanner equipment, networking equipment (routers, firewalls, modems, cable boxes) office electronics (calculators, time clocks, typewriters, laminators), audio and video (microphone, speakers, projectors, video surveillance, equipment, stage lighting, tripods, cameras, vintage electronics, phone systems). Hazardous materials not accepted.
• Sodded bare areas along several of our major thoroughfares. Laid 16 pallets of sod the past few weeks and are planning to lay another 16 pallets in the next 3-5 weeks. • Met with Silversand management to discuss a number of concerns that have been raised by the Board and homeowners. All of these concerns have been addressed and steps will be taken to avoid them in the future. • Restored guard house capability to continuously monitor all 9 of our cameras located at the Main Gate, Heather Run Gate, Ginger Pond Gate and Tanner Bridge over Turkey Creek. • Installed new temporary NO PARKING ON CIRCULAR DRIVEWAY sign at Clubhouse in an attempt to discourage periodic violations of this rule. Will replace with an attractive permanent sign in the near future. • Developing options to replace the playground equipment at the Clubhouse. Will be seeking inputs from users over the next couple weeks concerning which option they prefer. 4

Dust off your lederhosen! It’s time once again for the annual LOE Oktoberfest. The LOE Social Committee will be hosting an adult beer tasting on Friday, October 15th at 6:30 pm at the clubhouse. Meet and greet your neighbors for a fun-filled, adult social with ales from local breweries. Food trucks will be on site for your dining pleasure. Prost! National Night Out is to encourage neighbors to get out to catch up with neighbors and get to know new neighbors! We encourage each of the Villages in Lakes on Eldridge to host a National Night Out Block Party Saturday, September 25th @ 4-6 p.m. We are looking for volunteers to help organize an event in their Village. All volunteers need to do is choose a safe location in your Village and either send out emails or drop off flyers about the event. Flyer templates will be provided for each neighborhood. Tables may be set up and lawn chairs set out. It is recommended that masks be worn and each neighbor brings their own food/snacks and beverage rather than sharing as Covid19 continues to linger. If you are interested in being a Village host or have additional questions, please contact Carrie Loid at cgloid@hotmail.com. Signs will be posted at the entrance of each of the Villages hosting a party. If you don’t see a sign in your Village, you are welcome to join another Village in the neighborhood.

Book Club’s next meeting is on September 27th at 7:30 PM in the clubhouse. Plenty of room, masks optional. We welcome anyone to join us! Usually the 4th Monday of each month at 7:30 PM (we sometimes move the date because of holidays, so check with celeste.fritz@gmail. com ) We’re finally reading books with setting other than WWII, but it looks like we’re on a “lost” kick now. Don’t forget about LOE’s Little Free Library located at the bus stop in front of the clubhouse! Take a book / leave a book. September 27, The Lost and Found Bookshop by Susan Wiggs Somewhere in the vast Library of the Universe, as Natalie thought of it, there was a book that embodied exactly the things she was worrying about. In the wake of a shocking tragedy, Natalie Harper inherits her mother’s charming but financially strapped bookshop in San Francisco. She also becomes caretaker for her ailing grandfather Andrew, her only living relative—not counting her scoundrel father. But the gruff, deeply kind Andrew has begun displaying signs of decline. Natalie thinks it’s best to move him to an assisted living facility to ensure the care he needs. To pay for it, she plans to close the bookstore and sell the derelict but valuable building on historic Perdita Street, which is in need of constant fixing. There’s only one problem–Grandpa Andrew owns the building and refuses to sell. Natalie adores her grandfather; she’ll do whatever it takes to make his final years happy. Besides, she loves the store and its books provide welcome solace for her overwhelming grief. Books are a great way to beat the heat!.....
