Lakes on Eldridge North
Volume 20, Issue 09
Meet Joe Ogletree. He is our community's newest minister and the pastor of Image Church, located at 20402 Chappell Knoll Drive in Fairfield. You may know about Image Church, or possibly you have already attended one of its services. However, if not, I'm sure you will be interested in Pastor Ogletree's story about why he and his family have chosen to settle in Fairfield. Leading a church wasn't in my original plans. After graduating on a full football scholarship from Nicholls State University, and as an all-conference football player, I had big dreams of playing in the NFL. However after walking across the stage and collecting my diploma, I realized God had something different than the NFL planned for me. Instead, my future included a career in corporate America and then later I was called to the ministry. While working in corporate America, I found myself still searching and searching for more. More connection, more family, more community. The divorce rate is increasing, making broken homes seem like the norm. The confusion that lives in a broken home can permeate through children, and then they get married, only to wind up divorced like their parents, and so begins another cycle. How do we Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.
September 2021 break this cycle? God has a design for the family. We need to get back to His design and equip families with hope. As the son of a preacher, I had this deep down feeling that my calling was in ministry. This hunch was confirmed in 2008, when God called me to minister the gospel under the leadership of my father, Dr. John Ogletree, at First Metropolitan Church as a Young Adult Pastor and an Elder. I've served in the CityView Collective Planting Residency, a group of gospel-centered churches working to plant churches in the Houston area, and I am excited to see how God has ordered my steps in the years to come. We've been here since 2017, and today, I'm humbled and honored to be a part of the Cypress community bringing families together and bringing communities together. Today, I still work in corporate America, but I'm excited to have started my seminary degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. When I'm not connecting our patrons to the Source to find their joy and peace, you'll probably find me watching a football game, spending time with my wife, Sherrell, or playing with our three handsome boys–Jaiden, Josiah, and Jaxon. Image Church had its grand opening on September 12th at 3 pm. Regular service times will be 10 am every Sunday.

Wanna know how to make a musician cry? Tell them “Sorry, the show is cancelled” but in this case, my tears turned to excitement! When my band’s show was rescheduled, I knew exactly where I was going to spend the night instead - watching the “Matt Sebastian Band” play locally at The Barn located at 16416 Meuschke Rd. in Cypress, TX! Matt Sebastian’s local show venues include the Cypress favorites Creekwood Grill, The Barn and The Burger Ranch, just to name a few, but that’s not the extent of it. His Alternative, Bluesy, Southern Rock sound is popular amongst every age group! Matt performs as an acoustic solo artist and when we are lucky, he’s with his FULL band! (Matt Sebastian, Lead Vocals, Guitar + Byron Burnham, Lead Guitar + Gavin Gonzales, Bass + Jake Dansby, Drums) All very cool dudes I enjoyed chatting with between sets. Be sure to Follow them on Facebook at facebook.com/mattsebastianband/ to keep up with their events and happenings! Performing songs such as “Nothing Else Matters, by Metallica, “Save Tonight”, by Eagle Eye Cherry, “Wonderwall” by Oasis and “Hurricane” by Band of Heathens, you are sure to get your fix of hits! The crowd roared when Matt invited me on stage to sing the sultry Hurricane tune with him on stage! Surprise! (for me too!) It was a blast, and we made a memory that night! His wife, Kimberly, was there in major support too! With a smile on her face and her camera hung around her neck, Kim captured Matt’s highlight moments every step of the way. They welcomed me with open arms, we toasted to the special occasion then I ran straight to the Merch Table and grabbed me a shirt and a Koozie! I changed into it immediately because it was softer than the shirt I wore there! Get yours ASAP! Grab some friends and go catch you a Matt Sebastian Show – you’ll be glad you did! Until next time…. *All shows subject to change, no guarantee. Updates available via Facebook. Lakes on Eldridge North By Lily Wachuku My name is Lily Wachuku, and I am a 16-year-old senior at Cypress Ranch High School and a Cypress resident. I created "Live Life the Girl Way," a web-based girls' organization that focuses on empowering young girls and teens. My organization is over two years old and is frequently accessed by over 130 countries, with some of my posts averaging over 6,000 hits. My organization focuses on positive and uplifting messages for young girls and teens to encourage them to reach their full potential. I am also a motivational speaker, because when I started middle school, I noticed that many girls around me lacked self-confidence and didn't believe in themselves. The majority of the girls throughout middle school and high school weren't empowered or encouraged. They believed the stereotypes that society has set for girls and women today; many didn't seem to think there was a place for them outside of "girl careers." I have been lucky enough to have people around me every day who empower and encourage me to be my best self and achieve all of my goals and dreams. This year, we have launched the campaign, "Fuel Her Dreams," to raise money to educate girls in Malawi, Africa. Our mission is to fund 20 girls with one year of education to help combat child marriage. "Live Life the Girl Way" is working with UNICEF USA to reach a goal of raising $3540. I am asking for the support of the Cypress community to help me "Fuel Her Dreams." The fundraiser link is https://charity. gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/fuel-her-dreams1. The deadline for donations is September 30, 2021. Live Life the Girl Way is not a feminist organization. It is dedicated to encouraging girls globally to achieve all of their goals and dreams, eradicate their insecurities, and take their place in the world. If I empower and inspire girls to Dream, Succeed, and Achieve, I can change the world for the better. "Live Life the Girl Way" can be accessed at www.livelifethegirlway. com.

Submitted by Pat Hudson Because we value the health and well-being of our sponsors, volunteers, and friends, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our Cy-Fair Helping Hands’ 1st Annual Stetsons & Stilettos Gala. The new date for our fundraiser is Saturday, February 19, 2022; the venue will remain Bridal Oaks Weddings and Events, 18224 K-Z Road, Cypress, 77433. While this decision saddens us, we are confident that it is the right thing to do. All current sponsorships, donations, and ticket purchases will be recognized and honored on the new date. We will continue to seek out enticing food and beverage selections and additional auction items that are sure to draw some bidding wars! Watch our website and social media for updates in the silent and live auctions. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you at our Stetsons & Stilettos Gala on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
