Cypress-area religious groups are working together to make sure that the local food pantry—Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM)—is completely stocked when its new 21,000-squarefoot building opens on Saturday, October 9. Faith Groups for CAM, an ecumenical organization, is drawing on the strength of its varied congregations to “Jam for CAM.” The month-long food and supply drive will culminate during the grand opening of CAM’s new Cypress North Houston facility, which will house its resale store, donation center, food pantry, offices, and classrooms. “In this time of disunity, it’s so important that people of different faiths unite and help CAM feed the hungry within our community,” said Deacon Kerry Bourque, parish administrator at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. “We all share a deep commitment to loving our neighbors and our partnership with CAM makes our combined effort more impactful.” Each faith group will collect a specific, high-need item for a month and deliver their product during CAM’s grand opening celebration. Tours of the facility will also be available on the event day so that church leaders and congregation members Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.

can see the impact their donations are making. All area churches are invited to participate and support CAM’s mission of serving those in need through this multidenominational event. “We hope to create awareness about needs within our congregations and the community,” said Kristie Musick, a member of Messiah Lutheran Church’s Outreach Team. “This is such a valuable opportunity to provide a public witness of different faith groups working together to make practical differences for people in need.” CAM is a faith-based organization that serves individuals and families in financial crisis, those on the brink of homelessness, the elderly, and the unemployed. CAM makes resources available to individuals and families facing adversity, providing a helping hand as they regain self-sufficiency. In 2020, CAM provided 1.2 million pounds of food to families below the poverty line—more than 30,000 individuals in the Cypress area—and expects to expand its reach in 2021. The LOEN Ladies Club provides all LOEN ladies with a relaxed and friendly way to meet one another through regularly scheduled monthly events. Although the pandemic forced us to cut back our activities, some of our groups continue to be active. We are gradually resuming in-person events so that we can get back to providing all LOEN ladies with opportunities to meet their neighbors, make friends, and socialize. We hope to resume holding general outdoor social events soon so that our membership and any interested women of the Lakes on Eldridge North community can gather together. The Ladies’ Club is still planning a full restart of activities in January 2022. If you would like more information about LOEN’s Ladies Club, please email Jeanne MacKenzie at loenladiesclubpresident@gmail.com.
