BRIARHILLS
NOVEMBER 2021 VOLUME 10, ISSUE 10 The Official Publication of The Briarhills POA
SUMMARY OF 2nd BRIARHILLS TENNIS TOURNAMENT President: Alec Luong Vice President: Hernan Zapata Treasurer: Mathew Ricciardo Secretary: Constantin Platon Director: James Gilmer Director: Maria Galiotos Director: Jim Minyon The Briarhills POA would like to give a big thank you to outgoing president, Jeff Dingler. Thank you, Jeff, for all of your volunteer time and dedication serving on the Briarhills Board of Directors.
In October, the Briarhills POA Board of Directors voted for a 10% rate increase for 2022. The 2022 annual dues amount is $916 (an increase of $83 from last year). Annual statements will be mailed to property owners this month. If you do not receive your statement in the mail by December 15th, please email the BPOA Office at officemanager@briarhillspoa.org and request another copy. We strongly encourage residents to pay their dues online. When paying online, you will receive a payment confirmation by email which serves as your receipt and eliminates any question as to whether the BPOA received your payment on time. Instructions for paying online can be found on your account statement. There is no fee to pay online by e-check. Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.
On Sunday, October 3, 2021, the Briarhills Tennis Committee held its second Briarhills Tennis Tournament. The championship was won by Julio dela Colina and Sarah Bavar. Congratulations to them and to all 24 players! Without our players there would have been no tournament and we had a great turnout. The overarching goal of this event was for neighbors to get to know each other as tennis players and to have fun and to build a stronger community. The tournament was also held to help raise funds for needed repairs at the tennis courts. The funds collected from sponsorships, donations, and individual registration fees of $80 per person summed up to nearly $3,900 and are intended to go towards rebuilding the quality of our facility. Specifically, we would like to install one missing LED light pole fixture, resurface the tennis courts, replace the broken backboard, and more. We are currently inquiring about cost estimates. A very big thank you also goes to the following organizations or individuals (in no particular order) who donated time, money, or products: King Wang Financial, LLC (Jin Wang) $800; Ben Mehralizadeh with CopyPlus Printing $250; Tennis lessons (2 hrs each, $150 value) by Ben Mehralizadeh, Stina Mosvold, Alan Levine and Constantin Platon; kayaking tour for 4 ($600 value) by Contantin Platon with OAK GeoSciences; snacks ($100 worth) by Kroger on Eldridge; Walter Hayes $100; Xiaoxiang Wang $100; Jane Smith $80; Gale Jenkins $100 (in memory of Steve Ashy); Donna Carrabba $200 (in memory of Steve Ashy); Kamal Narang $20; Margaret Forte/Jose Tapia $40; Carlos Kundev $20; Fa Dwan $120; Frank Perkins $50; Friend of Briarhills $15. Also, thank you to the Briarhills Tennis Committee, composed of the following subdivisions and representatives: Constantin Platon (Briarhills POA), Stina Mosvold and Donna Carrabba (Briarhills HOA), and Ivan Ivanov (Terraces on Memorial). We welcome your feedback about how we can make this event even better next year! If you would like to get involved with the Briarhills Tennis Committee and help organize the next Briarhills Tennis Tournament, please reach out to your subdivision representative. We are looking forward to seeing you on the tennis court (or kayaking) very soon! Autumn Greetings and Happy Winter Holidays! Constantin Platon and Donna Carrabba Briarhills - November 2021

BRIARHILLS The Briarhills POA will hold our annual fundraiser for the Easter Seals Foundation at the Briarhills Clubhouse on Saturday, December 4th from 4:006:00 PM. We are kindly requesting our neighbor's help by way of donations. The fundraiser will also be a great time for neighbors to get together for some fellowship and sip on some hot chocolate, while children have fun doing crafts and writing letters to Santa. Our board member, Maria Galiotos, will be spearheading the event, collecting the donations, and delivering them to the foundation. Last year Easter Seals raised over $25,000 in funds and goods. Thanks to the community, they were able to adopt more than 65 families for the holidays. THIS year we would love you to participate on any level or just to spread the word! They are asking for three main donations: 1. HEB gift cards. Large to small denominations. 2. Walmart gift cards. Large to small denominations 3. Drives for small things easily packaged or transported (socks, undies, pj’s) The Easter Seals Foundation are an official food pantry
partner, as well as collaborative partner with many other nonprofit organizations that help address the cycle of poverty. Please know their financial literacy/case management staff follow up with the families nominated to enroll them in different programs that can help them get out of the cycle. In other words, they do not just put a Band-Aid on it. Last year they assisted over 14,500 children and adults with all types of disabilities, military, veterans and their families. This year they expect to be well over that. 65% of their clients and their families are living below the poverty level primarily because of medical and caregiver issues. Your support and effort are much appreciated, especially in a year such as 2021. Your generosity ensures that the foundation is able to continue serving the thousands in our community who benefit from the multiple extraordinary programs that they offer. So please come out, participate, and help needy families during the holidays! Donations may also be mailed to 4888 Loop Central Drive, Suite 200, Houston, TX 77081.
