Steiner Ranch Fire Memorial Unveiling
The Steiner Ranch Fire Memorial was unveiled on the 10th anniversary of the Labor Day weekend Fires of 2011, on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at the John Simpson Park. The Steiner Ranch memorial features an information kiosk, a bronze fireman placard, a concrete memorial bench in honor of Corporal Kevin Aigner, and a walkway of bricks. The project was the brainchild of Eagle Scout Tyler Buchner and was made possible by the SRROA Board of Directors and Community Sponsors. In attendance were Steiner Ranch residents, the family of Corporal Kevin Aigner, Texas District 47 Representative Vikki Goodwin, Travis County Constable Office Pct. 2, Lake Travis Fire Rescue Fire Chief Robert B. Abbott, Travis County ESD No. 6 Board President Paula S. Barr (Lake Travis Fire Rescue), Assistant Fire Chief Glenn Trubee, Steiner Firewise and Trails Committees, Travis County Fire Education, and Eagle Scout Tyler Buchner. The event began with the Honor Guard presenting the colors, followed by a minute of silence in honor of Corporal Kevin Aigner. Lake Travis Fire Rescue representatives spoke about the 2011 Fires that destroyed 23 homes and claimed the life of Travis County Constable Cpl. Kevin Aigner who collapsed and died from a stroke while helping to guard homes damaged in the wildfire. Steiner Ranch Firewise also talked about the risk of local fire, the efforts, and steps that have been taken since to reduce wildfire risks, how to increase the ignition resistance of residents’ homes and community, and offered attendees the opportunity to sign up for a free Home Ignition Zone Evaluation. Travis County Pct. 2 Constables expressed their gratitude to the Steiner Ranch Community and Eagle Scout Tyler Buchner for visualizing and planning the Steiner Ranch Fire Memorial and remembering their own Corporal Kevin L. Aigner.
