Submitted by Stephanie Fantasia Whether people find themselves moving to the Houston area for work, school, or in pursuit of a better life, Cypress is often their first choice. Cypress offers highly-ranked schools, thriving youth and athletic programs, wellmaintained playgrounds and pools, and beautiful trails and lakes, making it the perfect place to live. Andrea Curran, team lead of the Andrea Curran Team, says, "There are no people like Cypress people. We love being a part of this community." You'll find The Andrea Curran Team all over Cypress sponsoring youth sports teams and school music programs, feeding the hardworking heroes at the local firehouse, sending appreciation gifts to teachers, supporting local small businesses with their Deep In The Heart of Cypress video series (andreacurran.com/videos), and much more. You can also find the team sponsoring various projects benefiting Cy-Hope and Cypress Lucky Mutt Rescue, two of their favorite local nonprofits. "This community means so much to us and we want to serve our neighbors, whether it's people in need or our clients," explains Andrea. Andrea Curran was born and raised in small-town Alabama on the Tennessee River, nestled in the Appalachian foothills. She loves literature and music and can never have too many horses or rescue dogs. But her greatest passion is helping people. It's that passion that made her an award-winning teacher for fifteen years and eventually even led her to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in foster care. It's also that passion that drove her to begin her real estate journey only a few short years ago. In 2016 Andrea became a licensed real estate agent and fell in love with helping her buyers and sellers so much that she decided to start her Cypress team in 2019. Only two short years later, Andrea Curran is ranked in the Top 100 realtors on HAR out of more than 40,000 agents. This year, the team won a Wall Street Journal Real Trends Award for their production, ranked among 4 Fairfield Community Gazette - November 2021
teams nationally. It takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication to climb the ranks so quickly, but they've made it look easy while giving back to the Cypress Community everywhere they can. As the housing market continues to be a hot topic, a common recurring question is who should you trust to help achieve your real estate goals? Whether you're buying or selling, doing so with the support of a top-producing team affords you extra benefits. Made up of an amazing group of talented and hardworking individuals all working together to offer clients the best real estate experience possible, The Andrea Curran Team puts client care and communication first in all things. When asked about her clients, Andrea states, "Nothing is more important to us than our clients. In all things, we center around our core values of integrity, relationship, impact, and expertise." The Andrea Curran Team takes pride in offering their clients every possible resource to succeed. Their clients can expect nothing but the best as the team is partnered with Compass Real Estate, one of the world's fastest-growing and most innovative real estate firms. Both the buying and selling experience will be met with the most technologically advanced tools and guided by the most knowledgeable agents. When choosing The Andrea Curran Team, clients can expect sophisticated marketing, professional photography, professional listing videos, aerial photography, open houses, ethical practices, clear communication, and detailed knowledge of the real estate market. The Andrea Curran Team cares about its clients and their community. They take pride in building relationships all over Cypress because not only do they love it here; they live here. They enjoy being your neighbors and know how much Cypress has to offer. Their real estate journey began here, and their team has grown here, thanks to the support of Cypress friends and neighbors. You can learn more about The Andrea Curran Team by visiting www.AndreaCurran.com. BE ON THE LOOKOUT: The Andrea Curran Team recently started a new social media campaign called Random Acts Of Cypress to continue to build up the Cypress community by spreading and sharing kindness. You can join them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/randomactsofcypress. And don't miss their upcoming movie night at Lakeside Trails Park on November 12th. Free and for all ages, the movie starts at 6:30 PM. Check out The Andrea Curran Team on social media for more information and upcoming events. Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.

1. Volunteer at a veteran's organization. The American Legion, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Habitat for Humanity, and the Home Depot Foundation, to name a few...
2. Buy a meal for a homeless vet. While there's no way to make sure their veteran claim is legitimate, that shouldn't matter. Buy the gentleman a sandwich and thank him for his service
3. Fly your flag for Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, etc. 4. Send balloons to your local recruiters office. The promises recruits swear the recruiter said are remembered forever. Send these guys a little cheer.
5. Ask a loved one for stories about their time in service–and listen patiently. Take a few minutes to listen to stories of service from someone in your extended family.
6. Put a stamp on it. Send a thank you card to people you know who has National Night Out was a HUGE success this year in Fairfield! The Ellis-Nabors team coordinated this great event along with many local sponsors to make it a fun evening to get to know your neighbors! National Night Out is typically during the week, with people wanting to get out to meet others. Wanda Abel had a bigger vision and made it a community event at a neighborhood clubhouse in 2016! She joined forces with the Ellis-Nabors Team in 2019, and now the event has grown with even more sponsors, prizes and good times! This is the definition of their motto "Together We're Better!"

ever served in the military.
7. Look for a community event and then take the family out to join in the community fun.
8. Change your Facebook page to feature a favorite veteran—even if your vet is great, great uncle Felix who you never met who served in WWI.
9. Just say "thank you." A little recognition goes a long way. 10. Make your life worth dying for—strive to be worth the sacrifice.

For this event, Long Way Home Texas has partnered up with the Children's Transplant Initiative as this events recipient. Check them out at CTI-TX.ORG. John Evans Band, Two Tons of Steel, Zigg y Moonshine and the Bootleggers, Dub Miller, Jesse Roach, Susan Hickman, Mandi Powell, Philip Griffin, Steven Marshall, Leo Mendoza, Jim Salter, David Grace, and Josh Norman to date. What started off as me just wanting to have a party to celebrate my 50th birthday, and still being alive after almost dying in June of 2020 from liver disease, has evolved into quite a shindig. Children's Transplant Initiative helps families of transplant patients with unforeseen costs incurred like temporary housing, parking, meals, and so much more that are the difference in a parent being able to care for a child in their greatest time of need. These families are forced to choose between their child, or losing everything. This will be a family friendly event and open to anyone and everyone who would like to come. Tickets will be for sale soon, along with sponsorship opportunities. To all my friends and family who have been there for me through all this, and continue to be there as I walk down my road of recovery, I want to give my sincerest gratitude from the entirety of my heart. Without the grace of God, the love and support of my friends and family, and great doctors, you would have been at my funeral last July. To give an example of the grave nature of where I was last June, I had reached out to who I wanted to be my pallbearers, song choices for the celebration (I don't want a funeral. I haven't lived my life somber, but with a zeal for it) and thinking about it. Thankfully, I'm recovering and look to make a full recovery without a transplant. Please join us and let's help others who are in a similar situation. It's much more common than you think, and could benefit you one day.

Allow me to introduce this uber talented singer, musician, Husband and Father of 5 from Conroe, TX. He’s got a voice that’s deep and rich in tone which brings life and depth to the country songs he sings and writes. He’s kindhearted and has an appreciation for music that runs deep. By day, Nate works selling metal building systems and by night takes the stage as Nate Nelson Acoustic or Nate Nelson and the State Street Band. Nate has been traveling to Cypress to play locally since 2015 and in July of 2021 he hit a personal milestone when he opened for Jason Boland at 2920 Roadhouse and earned a well-deserved proud moment! I got to meet Nate Nelson in person for the first time when I hosted his SPOTLIGHT event with Cypress Music Scene at The Burger Ranch (located on House-Hahl Rd. in Cypress) earlier this summer. Nate and his longtime pro musician singer/songwriter friend form Iowa, Josh Sinclair were touring together so Nate, Josh and Myself got to spend the evening making musical memories!

By Metta Marie Archilla Metta's Local Eats mission of Food and Fellowship was honored to aquire food and provide the buffet service for the Reception Service of 200 for a fallen local Cy-Fair Firefighter. "A grateful community mourns and honors the life and legacy of fallen Driver Operator, Hugo Guevara at a public funeral service at Community of Faith on Thursday, October 7, 2021, in Hockley." When Captain Daniel Arizpe, PIO / Cy-Fair Fire Department reached out and asked if Metta's Local Eats could help, there was never a single hesitation. We are entirely greatful to Executive Chef Ed Roberts and GM Anthony Messina of The Union Kitchen Boardwalk Towne Lake for readily saying "YES" when asked if they could provide the food for 200 to the local Cy-Fair Firefighters and for the family of Hugo Guevara. Chef Ed and Anthony immediately started bouncing ideas around and it was a thing of sheer ebb and flow to watch these men of Community focused hearts spring into an action of resolve. I offered to allow MLE to cover (at least) the food cost, and neither would hear anything of it. Folks, we are truly blessed to have this local a part of our Community foundation . . . Thank you again to Captain Daniel for allowing Metta's Local Eats the opportunity to serve our Cy-Fair Community. October was breast cancer awareness month; local Cypress baseball team KTN Athletics always changed their uniform in October to raise breast cancer awareness, but this year they took cancer awareness further by honoring their loved ones who have battled any type of cancer. The name and the color of the cancer their loved ones fought or are fighting is represented on the back of their jerseys. Coach told the boys during October, when they put these jerseys on, they're playing for more than themselves. They're playing for the loved one on the back of their shirt. KTN 11U boys are two time back to back Texas State Champions. They have developed a strong brotherhood - together, they work and train very hard! Below is just a sampling of the player's comments about their jerseys. "I play for the people on the back of my jersey because my grandma had breast cancer and my cousin Keisha died from breast cancer. So that's why I play for them." - Kingston Joseph, 7 "My Maw Maw had cancer, and she got better. It makes me feel good to honor her on my jersey when I'm playing baseball. It's kinda like we are fighting together." – Dylan Chevalier, 11 "I'm honoring Poppy's friend." – Hudson LaRue, 7 "I love wearing my cancer awareness jersey. It reminds me of my friend Jake, and I hope he is playing baseball in Heaven." – Trent Royer, 10 "This jersey means everything to me because we get to spread cancer awareness and play for the people who we love who have had cancer. Supporting Honey means anything and everything to me." – Weston Chovanec, 11 KTN stands for 'Keep Train-N’ Fairfield Community Gazette - November 2021

Submitted by Mark Shook, Founding Pastor Community of Faith Church
The Salyards Middle School Percussion Ensemble was recently named a Commended Winner from the Foundation for Music Education. We are so proud of the accomplishments of our talented students. This is the second national honor our percussion ensemble has received. In 2018, the Percussion Ensemble was invited to perform at the Music for All National Percussion Ensemble Festival. We want to thank Mr. Nguyen, Director of Percussion, from Bridgeland High School for all his help with our percussion students! Pictured below is our 2021 Trash Can Band performing for the Salyards MS Color Run Kick-off! Our students work hard and have fun! We are looking forward to the band’s Winter Band Concerts in December.
The Community Counseling Center affiliated with Community of Faith Church in Cypress is seeing almost 200 of your friends and neighbors every month, helping them cope with the emotional fallout of the COVID pandemic. “I truly believe the Counselors at CCC saved my marriage. Things are better now than they were before the quarantine” Rick S. (Fairfield Resident) According to the Kaiser Family Foundation research, “The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic recession have had a significant negative effect on people’s anxiety, depression, and substance abuse disorders. During the pandemic, about 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. have reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder.

For those who are interested, we welcome clients of any religious or faith tradition, or those who have no faith tradition. The center offers several ways to connect and find healing. We offer therapy for individuals, couples, and families from Sunday to Thursday, with evening sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We also provide support groups where people can connect with others, learn about themselves, and find healing from grief, addiction to substances or pornography, and the challenge of setting healthy boundaries. Since the age of 11, Mongolian contortionist Oyun-Erdene "Oyuna" Senge has captivated Cirque du Soleil audiences worldwide. She has been part of four different touring productions: Alegría (2004 – 2013), OVO (2014 - 2015), TOTEM (2015 – 2020) and Alegría – In A New Light (2021). Oyuna's mother passed away when she was only six. It was her dying wish that Oyuna would become a contortionist---contortion is part of Mongolia's traditional art, and the country has many contortionists and contortion schools. Her aunt fulfilled her sister's dying wish, and at the age of six, Oyuna became a student of the Mongolian State Circus Contortion School. Every morning, for 4 hours before running to the nearby elementary school for her afternoon classes, she trained in flexibility, handstands, contortion tricks, and movement. Two years later, Oyuna was paired with a fellow contortionist of her age to create an act intended to compete at international circus festivals. In 2003, Cirque du Soleil casting scouts visited the Mongolian State Circus to audition duo contortionists for Alegría. After looking at different duets, they selected 10-year-old Oyuna and her partner. In August 2004, Oyuna left Mongolia to join Alegría – an adventure that would change the trajectory of her life. Oyuna says, "Becoming a contortionist for Alegria changed my life forever. Today, I live out of a suitcase. I don't even own a plate or a fork. My life goes by so fast. I perform at least eight shows a week." Since she became a contortionist, Oyun has performed in over 50 countries with contortion solo and duo acts on Big Top and Arena tours. She is fluent in Mongolian and English and understands French. She has earned a bachelor's degree in linguistics. At 28 years old, Oyuna is very touched to be back with Alegría for its new chapter and is excited to make fans relive the emotions that made them fall in love with Cirque du Soleil in the first place. For the first time in her long career, she takes on a new challenge to perform a contortion act on top of four Hand Balancing canes – a metal stick topped with a wooden handstand block. Oyuna is also excited to be touring in Alegría with her husband, a Canadian Tour Publicist for Cirque du Soleil, whom she met on tour while working in Australia.

A few facts about the Big Top · The Big Top seats more than 2,600 people. · The entire site set-up takes eight days · The Big Top stands at 62-feet high · The four steel masts each stand at 82-feet tall · 550 pegs are required to hold the big top firmly to over 14,000 square feet of asphalt · The white-colored canvas helps counter the effects of the sun, thereby reducing energy consumption and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions · Alegría travels via 65 trailer trucks carrying close to 2,000 tons of equipment

by Jackie Devine Commissioner Tom Ramsey gave a stellar presentation at the Classic Adults of Good Shepherd Methodist Church Luncheon on October 4th. In addition to being an excellent speaker, and besides serving as Commissioner for Precinct 3, Tom serves as a deacon for Second Baptist Church and teaches two Sunday school classes. Commissioner Tom Ramsey is a busy guy; he and his staff: • Serve the needs of 1.2 million residents who live in the 453 square miles of the precinct boundaries. • Supervises the maintenance of over 1,939.66 miles of roads and 28,713.37 feet of bridges. • Maintains 63 parks covering 14,888+ acres that include 80 miles of hike and bike trails and five dog parks, • Operates 11 centers throughout Harris County, two of which are dedicated to senior citizens. These centers give our residents a place to gather for educational seminars, fitness classes, group activities, and social support, including day trips transportation services for residents 50 and older. • Ramsey left the audience spellbound when he stood up, looked us in the eye, and gave us the naked truth. Just a sampling of his hard- hitting facts included (which he also expounded upon): • Precinct 3 is the fast-growing precinct; we recently added 100,000 people. Crime is the biggest problem that we face. In the last two years, murders have been up in Harris County by 93%. • One of the most challenging problems in Harris County is the Judges; they do not believe that anyone should go to jail. • One of the most dangerous areas in Houston is the Bissonette Track (from Beltway 8 to Hwy 59). • Every infrastructure project voted on in 2018 is ahead of schedule. • Voters must get involved in school district issues. Two-thirds of your tax dollars go to school districts. Make darn sure that you have good trustees to guide the district. • Tom's final message was: be aware, be alert, and get involved.
