A Night Under the Stars continued from cover Picture-perfect weather was on hand for our annual concert this year on September 18th at the clubhouse. Fabulous music was provided by Duane Vincent on keyboard and featuring Ronnie Stallworth on saxophone and Andrew Bateman on guitar. Neighbors relaxed, dined on delicious food from a variety of food trucks, and danced the night away. The event was well attended, and everyone had a wonderful time. Watch for our next event here in the newsletter and hope to see you there.

A new playground is coming to LOE! Votes on different playground options were solicited from residents in the community and frequent users of the current playground! Over 35 votes were received and the winner is option #2 shown here. The playground has been ordered with anticipated delivery in 10-12 weeks. It will be exciting for our younger residents to have a new playground in the New Year.

Committee Outreach

LOE is always looking for residents interested in helping out on some of our many committees. Please let Donna know if you would like to help be a part of our wonderful community! Lakes on Eldridge LOE Book Club

Book Club’s next meeting is on November 22 at 7:30 PM in the clubhouse. Plenty of room, masks optional. We welcome anyone to join us! Usually the 4th Monday of each month at 7:30 PM (we sometimes move the date because of holidays, so check with celeste.fritz@gmail.com ) Don’t forget about LOE’s Little Free Library located at the bus stop in front of the clubhouse! Take a book / leave a book. November 22 – Rise of the Rocket Girls by Nathalia Holt The riveting true story of the women who launched America into space. In the 1940s and 50s, when the newly minted Jet Propulsion Laboratory needed quick-thinking mathematicians to calculate velocities and plot trajectories, they didn't turn to male graduates. Rather, they recruited an elite group of young women who, with only pencil, paper, and mathematical prowess, transformed rocket design, helped bring about the first American satellites, and made the exploration of the solar system possible. For the first time, Rise of the Rocket Girls tells the stories of these women -- known as "human computers" -- who broke the boundaries of both gender and science. Based on extensive research and interviews with all the living members of the team, Rise of the Rocket Girls offers a unique perspective on the role of women in science: both where we've been, and the far reaches of space to which we are heading. Know of a good book? We’ll be looking for selections to read in 2022 soon. Know of a good book? We’ll be looking for selections to read in 2022 soon.

Lakes on Eldridge Maintenance/Project Highlights for September Newsletter •

Obtained formal proposals to replace the Clubhouse Playground equipment and restore the kiddie mulch after removing exposed tree roots and restoring the drainage system. The Board selected the option favored by homeowners who voted on options displayed in the Flex Room. Contract has been signed. Equipment delivery and installation will likely take a couple months. Completed major initiative to cover dirt spots bordering major common area thoroughfares. This has significantly enhanced LOE curb appeal (literally) as well as reducing mud runoff on to sidewalks and streets following heavy rains. Launched plan to replace all pool umbrellas. Purchased test umbrella and base which should be installed in next few weeks. Appreciate your feedback on the attractiveness and suitability of this selection. If positive, will buy replacement for all existing umbrellas and bases. Launching comprehensive brick wall restoration project this month. Will begin by restoring 42 brick panels in bad shape near the Auburn Shores Playground. If this goes well, will identify another 30-50 panels to fix, and develop a plan to repair all damaged panels over the next few years. Several lake fountain failures happened in late September/early October. It's expected these will be repaired by the time the Newsletter is published."

Lakes on Eldridge had a tremendous turnout of neighbors on September 25th. Most Villages participated with food and fun! A huge thank you to our Village Captains: Francesca della Chiesa, Shirley Beasley, Erica Stidham, Kim Treas, Murali Kuppuswamy, Angela Vatankha, Erin Massingill, Karen Parker, Sue Strebel, Christine de Ciro, and Veerle Swinnen. Without them, this would not have been possible!

Many pear trees within LOE have reached the end of their lifespan. There have been several instances recently where large pear limbs have fallen across sidewalks unexpectedly and without warning. As a result most of the HOA pear trees near sidewalks have been removed. When removing them, these healthy appearing trees were found to have hollow trunks. A replanting plan is being developed for replacement trees as needed.

It is recommended that any homeowners that still have pear trees on their properties consider significantly pruning or replacing these trees. It is better to schedule this tree care than to need emergency tree removal during a storm or while you are away.
