Submitted by Johnie Jones • Missions & Community Engagement Community of Faith (COF) packaged 250,000 meals on Saturday, April 30, 2022 to provide food aid to Ukrainian refugees fleeing their homeland. Community of Faith partnered with area churches, student groups, and community organizations in northwest Houston; as well as Project C.U.R.E. and The Outreach Program, an international nonprofit organization, to package meals designed in collaboration with Iowa State University’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. "This is what true community looks like: everyone coming together to support our brothers and sisters in Ukraine,” said Mark Shook, Founding Pastor of COF. “What is happening in Ukraine breaks our hearts. We have been praying for some time now about what to do. When we heard about The Outreach Program and Project CURE, it was the perfect way for our community to both pray and serve at the same time.” “Outreach is providing critical shelf-stable, nutrient-dense, protein-rich food-aid to our friends, the Ukrainian refugees fleeing their war-torn country,” Floyd Hammer, founder of Outreach said. “Millions are fleeing to welcoming countries, and so we are working with partners on the ground here in the U.S. as well as our boots-on-the-ground partners in those neighboring countries to meet the colossal need.” “There is a growing demand for food aid, and we need people’s help to provide the funds to package more meals. Our nutritious meals are only .35 cents per serving, so caring donors can make a difference with their tax-deductible contributions. Now, more than ever, we can show our friends in the Ukraine, as well as the welcoming border countries that we care. Together, we make a difference.” Here is what some of the workers had to say: Ryleigh and I went to Community of Faith yesterday to help pact the lunches. I have to tell you that it was one of the most rewarding experiences that I have done. Thank you for the invitation to help. Deb DeJarnette I just wanted to thank you for the heads up on helping out. They had a big crowd, and I was there for two shifts! Sixty thousand meals were prepared before I left. Everyone was having a great time. The music was loud, everyone singing, just a real good time! I went and had a great time! Helped pack over 60,000 meals in my shift...Great experience! Carolyn Hunter
