Welcome on a journey to discover yourself and a world of secret treasures!

To the Sun Ceremony. Machu Picchu, Peru

PASSION – feel the passion and sensuality in every piece we produce We operate in both hemispheres of the globe to bring you the unique contrast of mystical Peru and Nordic Estonia. Both are full of history, culture and experience. Both are similarly rich in traditional craft skills and colorful garments, yet they are so different in their landscape, climate and language. Picture yourself in Estonia where the sun barely sets during summer and only shows itself for brief moments in the winter. Then picture yourself in Peru where ancient Inca cities are hidden in a lush and vivid natural environment. We offer fragments of those contrasting worlds. Everything we do at ALPAKA, we do with passion.

To the Midsummer Party. KĂľrvemaa, Estonia

PERFECTION – a distinctive pleasure in every detail Alpaca is a rare creature that is only found in the wild in South -America in the highest mountains of Peru. Alpacas have wool of the highest quality as the extraordinarily tough climate makes it grow uniquely well. Alpaca wool is up to seven times warmer than sheep’s wool. To bring you the very best of the wool from the alpaca we take great care over everything that we and our partners do. We apply the highest quality standards in sourcing the materials and making and selling our products. This is a slow process, but we believe it is worth investing our time and effort in processing alpaca wool and skin in the traditional way so that you can feel the difference in the luxury, richness and soul of our products with every touch.

RESPECT – we embrace the surrounding world and will be there for you for a long time In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing world it is important to keep a hold on the traditions on the past and an anchor in the world that made us and that crafts with which we have made our world. Our alpaca wool products are made using the traditional craft techniques of communities of tanners from around Lake Titicaca in Peru and of experts in Estonia. This gives everything we make an individual sense of time and tradition, techniques passed down through the ages to make the very best just for you. We buy our wool and fur in person in Peru so we can be sure to select only the very best, which we then bring back across the world to Estonia, where it is fashioned into something special and unique. No two ALPAKA rugs are the same, each one is an individual, just like its owner.

Fur Collections

ALPAKA fur collection is the cornerstone of the ALPAKA brand and products. The fur collection features rugs, bedcovers, throws, cushions, sofas and small teddy bears, and we can also produce custom-made projects. Alpaca fur is an exclusive material with unique qualities. It’s extremely soft, silky and warm, and it will last for a very long time if looked after properly. Alpaca fur does not contain any lanolin, making all our alpaca rugs and other products naturally allergy-free. We specialise in custom-made alpaca fur rugs, and we use special anti-slip backing and genuine leather bordering in all our fur rugs to make them more solid and durable. Slight variations and differences in the colors and shades of the rugs are a feature of the unique natural style, giving a natural and beautiful appearance to fur products, even when they have been dyed.

Fur Collection Care Instructions All our exclusive ALPAKA items, including rugs, throws and cushions are made of natural alpaca fur. Each item comes with unique appearance, both in color variations and physical qualities of the alpaca fur. No two alpaca fur items are the same. This is part of the unique and exclusive quality of the fine alpaca fiber, where light is reflected from the alpaca fur in a most unique and beautiful way. As made of natural alpaca fur, rugs, throws and cushions shed a bit of wool at the beginning. This is unavoidable. You can fluff your alpaca fur item outside of the house to remove the loose fur.

Maintenance

Wet stains

As of natural alpaca fur material, all our alpaca fur rugs and alpaca fur throws and cushions are not to be kept in damp and humid places. Water always damages natural materials, as it does with alpaca fur. Vacuum your alpaca fur rug or alpaca fur throw or cushion regularly using a smooth mouthpiece, never use industrial or wet vacuum. Please brush your alpaca fur item regularly as it helps you alpaca item to look like new for a longer period of time! Yearly cleaning of the alpaca fur rugs – it is recommended that particles which cannot be reached by a vacuum cleaner are removed by professional cleaning service. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact ALPAKA!

Treat these as quickly as possible. Do not allow to dry. Remove the liquid from the alpaca fur as much as possible with a sponge and then dab the alpaca fur with a white cloth or a white piece of kitchen or toilet paper. Dab the stain with a wet sponge and allow liquid to be absorbed from the alpaca fur in to the cloth or paper. Repeat this treatment until the stain disappears. Always work from the outside in, so that the stain does not increase. Always dab, never rub or scrub the alpaca fur! After removing the stains, dry the alpaca fur thoroughly with a hair dryer or place it outdoors (only with dry weather). All alpaca fur rugs and alpaca fur throws and cushions are made of natural alpaca fur, which like all natural materials, can start rotting if allowed to remain wet for too long.

Stains Collect particles from the alpaca fur rug or alpaca fur throw or cushion with using your fingers. Do not use a sharp object, which can cut the alpaca fur. If the dirt can be removed with a vacuum cleaner, do not wet the stain. Anything dry that can be removed from the alpaca fur, should be allowed to dry and then removed from the alpaca fur. If not all the dirt can be removed from the alpaca fur, dab the stain with a wet sponge and treat as indicated under “wet stains”.

41

Colors Please do not put the dyed color alpaca fur rug or alpaca fur throw or cushion under direct sunlight for longer period of time, this may damage the appearance of the color variations. All dyed items are with unique appearance in the same way as the natural color items.

Wool Collection

The ALPAKA wool collection features plaids, scarves and shawls made of alpaca extremely soft and silky wool. Plaids and scarves from our collection will keep you warm and cosy during the cold seasons of the year and give you luxury and comfort in those special moments you take just for yourself. These beautiful and warm products combine modern and traditional designs and different weaving and knitting techniques with the unique characteristics of this wool to keep you warm on the inside and radiant to the outside. Alpaca wool is naturally curly and the fibres have microscopic holes in them that provide superior insulation and breathability. This allows even the thinnest and lightest plaids made of alpaca to trap the warmth very efficiently – our ALPAKA products will keep you warm when it is cold and keep you cool when it is hot. Alpaca wool contains no lanolin and is naturally dirt repellent, making it the only naturally hypoallergenic wool in the world. You will always feel warm and safe when wrapped in alpaca wool. Alpaca wool has minimal pilling as the alpaca fibres are so smooth, so our plaids, shawls and scarves will keep their beautiful appearance for many years. All these unique characteristics of alpaca wool, its softness, smoothness, silkiness, curliness and ability to repel dirt, make it one of the most desirable natural fibres in the world. In our products we use both baby alpaca and alpaca wool. Baby alpaca is considered the best natural fibre in the world, warm, soft, silky and durable. Baby alpaca wool is cut from the animal for the first time at the age of 2-3 years, when the fibre is at its finest and its highest quality. With regular shearing over the years, alpaca fibre starts to get thicker and stronger, but it does not lose its silkiness and softness, meaning products made of alpaca wool are still majestic and are even more durable.

Wool Collection Care Instructions All of our ALPAKA wool collection plaids and blankets are of natural materials and dry cleaning method is recommended. No machine wash is advised.

Hand washing If hand wash method is decided, please use lukewarm/30oC water and very light detergent or mild soap to gently wash the alpaca plaid. Never use Chlorine bleach or Woolite. Rinse the plaid as many times as necessary to loose any signs of the detergent or soap. Remove any excess water carefully by pressing the wet item softly, avoiding any wringling or twisting. Put the plaid in a shade to allow the already washed plaid to dry in a horizontal position, avoiding overstretching. Do not tumble dry. After the product has dried, touch up with a cool iron if needed. Before storing, make sure that the item is fully dry. However, we recommend a periodical (one year) dry clean if needed.

If stains persist: In the event of stubborn stains, dry cleaning is advised. We do not recommend machine washing.

Dry cleaning Please use the professional cleaning service, who has experience with alpaca wool. If you have several items to be cleaned, we recommend that you wash the same color items at the same time to avoid color discrepancies after the washing process. Inform the cleaner of any spots or stains. Ask the cleaner to use a fresh solvent in low heat and a process that does not involve tumbling. Some wool may show pilling (the appearance of tiny balls on the fabric surface). Dry cleaning may increase their number but your cleaner should remove them as part of the finishing process

Ironing Set iron for WOOL setting and add water. Always use steam heat when pressing. Do not use extreme pressure.
