2016 PHYSICAL EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM
L 2016 PRI
THE TIME FOR
01 - 02 A
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Physical Education Institute of South Africa (PEISA) in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) host the 2nd annual Physical Education Symposium. The Theme for 2016 symposium is “Active Child: Healthy Adult. The time for action is now!” The annual symposia, are central to a series of established Physical Education advocacy and sector mobilisation campaigns, to be held as part of the DBE PEISA annual calendar, including being an integral part of the national Physical Education Month and Physical Education Day celebrations: observed annually from the 6th of April - 10th of May. The symposia serve as a platform for stakeholders who includes educators, researchers, content developers, institutions of higher learning, Basic Education and Sport and Recreation partners, officials and other interest groups, to debate, share and advance the interests of Physical Education. Based on deliberations and resolutions taken at the 2015 symposium, the 2016 leg will mainly focus on giving feedback, identifying areas of success and finding ways to build more meaningful interventions and collaborations. Furthermore, the symposium engagements, research and position pager presentations, will also be aimed at determining how Physical Education can and should be used as a psychosocial support tool that enhances other development programmes and policies, including those contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs)
