We'll be back with a new look, new content and new energy WHEN we announced a little over two months ago that The Malay Mail was going to go through another transformation, we were not short of critics and nay-sayers. But they cannot be blamed for their doubts, as this newspaper had undergone more than its fair share of rapid changes over the years.

However, on the flip side of the coin, the reaction from both readers and advertisers have been enthusiastic, with high expectations for another chapter in the history of this 115-year-old institution.

These supporters, like us, believe that the only consistency in life is change and to be resistant to it is to oppose progress and improvement.

With this in mind, we would like to inform our dear readers and valued supporters that The Malay Mail will temporarily cease publication from tomorrow.

We will be back in January 2012 as a nationwide morning paper with a cover price of RM1.

MALAYSIA is in talks with several neighbouring countries, including Cambodia, to reach an accord on standardised contracts for foreign domestic helpers, similar to one signed recently with Indonesia.

Human Resources Minister D atu k S. Subramani am revealed yesterday efforts are underway to reach an understanding that could lift a temporary ban by Cambodian government imposed on its women from coming to Malaysia as domestic workers after an alleged increase in abuse cases involving Cambodian maids here.

"We are now trying to reach similar agreements with all countries which send domestic workers to Malaysia, like the MoU we signed with Indonesia.

"A standardised contract will be handed to such maids whereby they will be accorded one mandatory day off per week, and they will be allowed to keep their passports themselves," he said after officiating the Access to Justice for Migrant Workers conference at a hotel here.

of its foreign domestic workers, so that the ban placed by the Cambodian government last Oct 15 could be lifted within three months.

The Cambodian government, according to her, wants their maids be given a mandatory day off each week, have a limit of eight working hours per day, and also for recruitment agencies not to deduct fees from the maids' salaries.

Regional non-governmental organisation CARAM Asia Bhd, which organised the conference officiated by Subramaniam, in its report revealed that out of 150 cases of migrant workers who were abused that it had documented up to this month, 116 cases had taken place in

Malaysia.

"Migrant workers should no be seen as a mere commodity but as humans with entitled to equal rights and dignity," said CARAM Asia's regional co-ordinator Harun Al Rashid.

Subramaniam, however, said that Malaysian law affords the same protection to migrant workers that also applies to local citizens.

"Be it in terms of salary or working conditions, our law affords the same protection for locals and foreigners."

"However, many foreigners do not make what we call as informed decisions.

"They are not provided adequate information by their agencies about the country they are going to or about their rights. If they are aware of all this, they could report their cases to the police here and the police would treat the cases the same way it would for a local citizen."

Subramaniam said there are currently around 1.3 million illegal workers in Malaysia.

"With the new biometric identification system to be introduced soon, we expect to trace the history of all foreigners who enter and depart the country.

"That way, we will have better documentation and means to identify illegal workers in Malaysia."

POLICE have taken a statement from Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir related to her support of the Seksualiti Merdeka 2011.

Bersih 2.0 steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah said Marina was called to the Jalan Traver police headquarters last Friday.

Seksualiti Merdeka 2011 was organised by a coalition of NGOs, artistes, activists and individuals to "celebrate the human rights of people of diverse sexual orientation”.

It had been held annually since 2008 and was supposed to host a series of activities until Nov 13 at the Central Market in Kuala Lumpur.

Last week, it was reported Marina, who launched the event in 2009, said she was upset with unfair reporting by certain quarters, portraying the event as a "free sex fest".

Former MIC strongman's condition improving HIS condition is improving but former MIC deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam is still unconscious.

The 67-year-old veteran politician is being warded at Pantai Medical Centre's Intensive Care Unit.

His former Press secretary R. Balakrishnan, said the latter's condition was showing some improvement after a 10-hour operation over the

weekend but had yet to regain consciousness.

"He is no longer using the mechanical ventilator and this is a positive sign. We hope he will be better soon."

Subramaniam underwent surgery after suffering from a mild cerebral hemorrhage due to high blood pressure last Friday. It started at 4pm on Saturday and ended at 2am on Sunday.

Big jump ahead for lifelong learning

THE number of 15-year-olds and above taking up lifelong learning (LLL) is expected to rise by 50 per cent by 2020, according to the Lifelong Learning Enculturation Master Plan 2011-2020 launched by the Higher Education Ministry yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Education Minister, said LLL participation could increase from 10 per cent to 50 per cent, should Malaysia engage several strategies in the master plan.

They are the enhancement of LLL mechanism and infrastructure, increasing public awareness and participation, ensuring continuity and appreciation of LLL as well as providing adequate funds and incentives to support related programmes.

“The LLL masterplan, at a national level, will place the LLL agenda as the third pillar in developing human capital, following basic education (secondary and primary) and tertiary education,” said Muhyiddin.

He said even developed nations in the region, such as Japan, Singapore and South Korea, which have successfully retained their human capital, are still organising training programmes to ensure relevancy of their human capital base.

"In this context, the national education system will continue to change and improve so that we may develop human capital relevant to industrial needs. I believe our higher education system will be able to produce successful and talented human capital with critical and creative mindset capable to compete in the decades to come, as leaders and entrepreneurs."

He said the acknowledgement and accreditation of LLL programmes by relevant institutions of higher learning will also play a vital role in ensuring its success.

The ministry's Vocational Training Council will be responsible for coordinating and providing accredited certificates to students and ensure those who do well will be able to qualify for further studies or receive higher salaries.

PKR Wanita wants minister to come clean in National Feedlot controversy OWN up or face a nationwide protest.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) women's wing issued the ultimatum to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil over by her family-run National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd' (NFC) alleged fund mismanagement.

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic) said they were giving Shahrizat a week to take responsibility over the issue.

She said the party will lodge reports with the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission if the minister, who is also Umno Wanita chief, failed to respond within the period and urged her to resign from her posts. " Sh a h r i z at s h ou l d b e accountable for the mismanagement of funds at NFC and set an example by being the first to resign,” said the Ampang MP at a Press conference at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Zuraida also lambasted Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar who reportedly said NFC was a private company and had nothing to do with the government.

She said the government, through the Finance Ministry, has a "golden share" in NFC, as confirmed by the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

Another controversy surfaced last week when PRK secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution claimed the NFC used its funds to buy a RM9.8 million condominium at One Menerung in Bangsar.

He alleged the sum was part of RM83 million given by the NFC to the National Meat and Livestocks Corporation Sdn Bhd (NMLC), a subsidiary contracted as NFC’s marketing development agent.

Last Friday, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said the residential unit was bought as an “investment” for NFC when the NMLC found itself with excess funds.

Both the NFC and NLMC are owned and ran by Shahrizat's husband and their three children. NFC executive chairman is husband Datuk Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail, while their children, Izmir, 31, Izran, 27, and Izzana, 25, are its chief executive and executive direc-

tors, respectively.

PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli, who was also at the Press conference, said it does not make sense for NFC to invest in a luxury condo when the market value for luxury real estate properties are depreciating.

"If indeed NFC wanted to invest to get best returns, buying a luxurious condo worth RM9.8 billion is a wrong investment decision as the property market, especially for luxury condos, is expected to go down from 2010 onwards, continuing well into the coming couple of years."

Rafizi challenged Khairy to an open debate “anywhere and anytime” to settle the matter once and for all.

Excelling in robotics MALAYSIA should focus on carving a name for itself in robotics, says Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He pointed out response from primary and secondary schools in this field was overwhelming as shown in the National Robotics Competition (NRC) 2011.

He said over 2,900 teams took part, of which 16, have been picked for the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Abu Dhabi on Nov 18 to 20.

Dr Wee said they are among

the 400-plus teams from 38 competing countries.

"Our students show a high level of creativity and they know how to programme the robots," he said before handing over the Jalur Gemilang to the national team led by the ministry's co-curriculum director-general, Mohd Rosli Mohd Hassan, at Parliament yesterday.

Wee said it is important to show the world Malaysian students' talent in robotics and their exposure in the field, adding next year, Malaysia will

host the event.

Meanwhile, he said most schools have already started distributing the RM100 aid promised for students in the 2012 Budget.

He said school heads are working with police when withdrawing money from banks where they will be given escorts.

"We will not disclose where and when the school heads will withdraw the money for fear of being targeted by robbers," he said, adding the money will be disbursed soon.

Govt to help train war journos THE government is ready to assist the media in providing safety training for journalists, photographers and cameramen covering strife-torn countries, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum (pic), said media organisations should also institute standard operating procedures for its employees to handle such assignments safely.

Media organisations should also provide safety equipment, like vests, helmets, life jackets, gas masks and camping gears, he said when responding to a question from Charles Anthony Santiago (DAP-Klang).

Salang said the training would not be made compulsory but media practitioners would be encouraged to join so that they would be better prepared and minimise risks when covering dangerous areas.

Mystery of 11.11.11 After police arrest man at 11pm, seize 11 live bullets

THE date 11.11.11 was auspicious to many, but even more for the South Klang police.

This was because at 11pm that day, they apprehended a man who has no less than six criminal records, including one for murder in 2000 at Port Klang.

South Klang district police chief ACP Muhammad Mat Yusop, said the 36-year-old ship cleaner, based at the port, was arrested during a two-hour "Ops Lejang Bersepadu" police roadblock at Jalan Tengku Badar traffic light inter-section in Port Klang.

"During the blockade, police confronted a man on a Modenas Kriss motorcycle behaving suspiciously and trying to evade the roadblock," he said.

He said police tried to detain the man after they introduced themselves, but

the man sped off.

"We chased him for 200 metres until Lorong Seroja where he crashed his motorcycle. The suspect abandoned the bike and fled on foot," said Muhammad.

While running, the suspect threw an object from his waistband into a drain.

The suspect was later caught.

On searching the drain, police found a Colt .38 revolver.

"At the suspect's house at Jalan Seroja, off Jalan Tengku Badar, we retrieved 11 live bullets and a wallet containing a police badge," said Muhammad.

During his arrest, the suspect tried to mislead the cops by stating his brother's name and MyKad number as his own but police later traced his identity.

Body of woman in river still a puzzle THE cause of death of the woman whose decomposed body was found floating in a river near Jalan Ipoh here on Nov 7 remains a mystery.

Sentul district police chief, ACP Zakaria Pagan said the medical examiner could not establish the cause of death due to the body's advanced stage of decomposition.

On Nov 7, a man at a restaurant was surprised to see the body of a woman floating in the river near Batu 3 Jalan Ipoh.

Initial investigations showed the woman, attired in a gown, had a bruise on her head and believed to be in her 30s.

He also had three cases of causing hurt by dangerous weapons and was detained in Simpang Renggam under the Emergency Ordinance.

Police believe he might also be a secret society member.

The suspect has been remanded until Saturday for investigation under Firearms Act (Increased Penalty) 1971 and Arms Act 1960.

Meanwhile, from Nov 1 to Sunday the South Klang police conducted Ops Lejang Bersepadu to curb vehicle theft cases, especially motorcycles.

During the operation, 13 stolen motorcycles including Modenas Kriss, Honda EX5, Yamaha 125Z and the old Honda C70, all worth RM52,000, were recovered, with the arrest of 21 people aged between 14 to 41.

From the total, 12 were students, four of whom were due to sit for their SPM examinations.

From these arrests, police solved 38 motorcycle theft cases in Klang district.

M-cyclist in 60km high speed chase WHEN a motorcyclist made an illegal U-turn to evade a roadblock along Jalan Raja Laut on Sunday night, a KL traffic policeman on a motorcycle swung into action.

Little did he know a high speed chase would follow taking him on a 60km ride from the city centre to the Karak Highway.

Throughout the chase, the motorcyclist performed daring stunts on his motorcycle to taunt the pursuing cop.

KL traffic police enforcement unit chief ASP Azmi Wahid said the traffic policeman eventually recovered the motorcycle, abandoned next to a petrol station along the highway.

He said checks revealed the motorcycle was reported stolen a few months ago.

Special care for on-going 6P exercise THE on-going 6P exercise gets special attention from the Home Ministry to avoid issues which could be played up by the Opposition.

In stating this, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein said the ministry was scrutinising the process to ensure all aspects of the exercise was running smoothly.

“We want to avoid controversy which could be capitalised by the opposition, as seen in cases of foreign nationals in Peninsular Malaysia, the alleged offer of citizenshipa to Bangladeshi nationals, and others,” said Hishamuddin after officiating at the Police Commissioner, Police Chief, Commander and Commandant Conference at Maktab PDRM in Cheras yesterday.

He described the status of the exercise that ends on Jan 10, as “satisfactory”. He was, however, unable to provide figures on the number of employers and foreign workers processed under the plan so far.

“The response from immigrants on the programme has been convincing and unexpected.

During the first stage of the programme, which is the 1P stage (registration), there were 2.3 million immigrants, including illegals, who registered through the biometric registration system,” said Hishamuddin.

Curtains fall on Istana Negara It gives way to the new Istana Negara in Jalan Duta as the official residence of future Kings

AFTER a colourful 83-year history and witnessing the coronation of seven of the 13 Yang diPertuan Agong, the curtains will fall on Istana Negara tomorrow.

The majestic white edifice with gold-coloured domes, a familiar sight to motorists passing Jalan Syed Putra, will be officially decommissioned when the flag of the head of state is lowered for the last time in a traditional ceremony today.

At the same time, the new Istana Negara in Jalan Duta becomes the official residence or palace for Malaysia's future head of states.

The out-going Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, will go down in history as the last ruler to occupy the old palace, which was also where prime ministers, Cabinet ministers and chief justices took their

oath of office.

This was also the palace where Malaysian senior diplomats received their appointment letters to serve overseas and where foreign diplomats were received.

Thousands of Malaysians also shared their life's memorable moments at the palace when they received their honourary awards and titles.

Located on 11.3ha land on Bukit Petaling, the palace started of as the mansion of a wealthy Chinese businessman Chan Wing.

Built in 1928, its architecture was the work of the then leading British architectural firm Swan & McLaren.

Chan Wing is said to have lived with his family there until World War II when the Japanese army occupied the place.

The Al-Khaadem Youth Camp 2011 will run from Dec 7 to 11 and os open to all aged 12 and above. However, children below the required minimum age can still join as exceptions are made on a case to case basis.

Sometime before Merdeka in 1957, the federal government

bought over the palace and turned it into the official palace for the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Rahman Tuanku Muhammad.

Since then, it has been the abode for Malay sultans who took turns every five years to rule the country.

The Istana Negara at Jalan Syed Putra, known as Lornie Road in those days, has 20 function rooms including 'balai mengadap' where dignitaries were received, guest rooms, banquet hall and the throne room Balairong Seri Utama that housed the royal dias.

The throne room came much later, when the earlier coronations were held at Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Jalan Ampang.

The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, had the honour of going through the first coro-

nation ceremony at the palace in 1980.

The smaller throne room — Bilik Singgahsana Kecil — was where the Agongs handed over appointment letters to governors, judges and diplomats.

The new Istana Negara is set to see the coronation of the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong — Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah of Kedah — next month.

The RM800 million palace, grand in design and bigger in size, is a fitting recognition to the unique constitutional monarchy system practiced successfully since independence.

While the new palace will be the seat for future head of states, the old Istana Negara is expected to serve as the museum of royalty illustrating how the constitutional monarchy in the country evolved.

Taman Negara tour firm clears air on grouses A TRIP to Taman Negara in Pahang has turned into a stressful one for a group of friends recently.

SASHIDARAN JAYARAMAN, a 26-year-old software engineer from Sentul, says he and two friends took up a full board and guided package with NKS Hotel & Travel Sdn Bhd. "Their KL staff told us to be at a hotel at 8am sharp for the 8.30am bus ride. Despite arriving at 7.45am, we waited until after 9am."

He says they only left at 9.15am and reached the NKS Jerantut office at 12.15pm.

"The driver was also smoking while we boarded the bus and the tobacco smell had spread throughout the bus."

Upon arrival, SASHIDARAN says they were promised a two-way ferry transfer from Kuala Tembeling to Taman Negara and cave exploration after lunch.

"As we would not be able to enjoy the ferry ride on a full stomach, we asked for a 30minute wait."

He says they were later told only one ferry was available at 2pm and they had to choose between the boat ride or cave trip. "We should have been told this earlier. We already paid for the exploration and were keen on it, despite being offered a refund. We already missed out on one activity."

SASHIDARAN says they complained to the NKS Jerantut office but were told the

director was away and could not compensate them as they had accepted the package from the Kuala Lumpur office.

He says they then found out their local village hotel accommodation was inadequate for the three of them, adding the management only provided them with an extra mattress as the hotel was fully booked.

"We were initially told we could choose rooms. They should have either reduced costs for the small room or given us separate ones."

SASHIDARAN says they instead settled for the Abot Guest House and were assured it was newly-renovated and had hot water. "Instead, we got a room full of insects, windows that couldn't close properly and a frog in the toilet bowl.

"We decided to pay an additional RM60 for another air-conditioned room."

He says their first activity that night was at 8.30pm and NKS told them a representative would hand them the park entry permits and camera licences during dinner.

"We waited, but no one came. Our guide told us the licence was not yet ready and would be provided once it was."

SASHIDARAN says when they finally met with the NKS Jerantut director, he explained the KL office only contacted the hotel back-office staff for

the accommodations.

"He then offered to compensate 50 per cent for the extra RM60 paid for the guest house. We refused."

SASHIDARAN wants a full refund from the company. ● NKS HOTEL & TRAVEL SDN BHD director Melvin Ng clarifies the bus was delayed as it was caught in a bumper-to-bumper crawl in Kuala Lumpur.

"However, our CCTV cameras recorded them arriving in Jerantut at 12.09pm."

On the smoking bus driver claim, he says a cigarette butt was not found near his

seat. "It was a public bus and could have been left by anyone."

Ng claims they delayed the cave exploration, scheduled between 1pm to 1.30pm, after lunch was served at 12.27pm, at SASHIDARAN's request.

On the accommodation issue, he says action has been taken against their Kuala Lumpur staff for misleading the clients over it.

"Although the rooms are satisfactory at flat rates, SASHIDARAN opted for cheaper ones. As the hotels are all run by locals, we can only suggest where they can stay.

"Only standard air-conditioned rooms rooms were newly-renovated with hot water facilities. Perhaps he misunderstood."

He says they were informed rooms were inadequate for three people and were offered a bigger one, but SASHIDARAN was not willing to pay for it.

On the complaint about insects and animals in the room, Ng explains it is a common occurrence at jungle resorts.

"We are not responsible for infrastructure inconveniences, as we only run tours. We recommend he contact the local council or Tourism Ministry on this."

"If the rules are made collectively through agreement and China is a part of it, then China will abide by them. If rules are decided by one or

even several countries, China does not have the obligation to abide by that."

Even as Obama issued the veiled threat of further punitive action against China, it was unclear how much of his tough rhetoric was, at least in part, political posturing aimed at economically weary US voters who will decide next November whether to give him a second term.

Obama insisted that China allow its currency to rise faster in value, saying it was being kept artificially low and was hurting American companies and jobs. "The boys are fit and have had a good rest after the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) and TNB Cup. We have been preparing well and will hopefully come good," said Kelvinder.

"I was looking forward to this tournament but picked up an unfortunate shoulder injury in the league."

Malaysia have been grouped with Argentina, Japan and Canada in Pool B. The 25-year-old KL Ho cke y Club (KLHC) player believes that the national hockey team is enjoying a purple patch currently, dating back to the final appearance at the

Guangzhou Asian Games last year.

"In addition to that, the Project 2013 team won the Sultan of Johor Cup. It's a great step for the national hockey scene but we have to build on these successes," he added.

Kelvinder was looking forward to the MHL season to impress national coach Tai Beng Hai after failing to shine during the fivematch series against Japan in August. However, he injured his shoulder at the end of the season and also had to miss the TNB Cup. He is undergoing physiotherapy and will not be travelling with the rest of the national players to South Africa on Saturday.

Instead, he will be at Kelab Aman on Saturday for the Mainduab Sports Carvinal, where he is the organising chairman for hockey. Besides hockey, the other sports for the carnival are football, netball and futsal.

The carnival is being organised by Kelab Belia Pudu Bersatu, the sports branch of Mainduab Gurdwara.

In the women's 10m platform synchronised, Leong Mun Yee and Traisy Vivien Tukiet put on a superb performance to accumulate 306.66 points after five dives.

BARCELONA midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes Robin van Persie will spend the rest of his career at Arsenal if the Dutchman decides not to move on next summer.

Van Persie has 18 months left on his contract at Emirates Stadium and Fabregas believes that, at 28, the Holland international realistically has only one more move in him.

Storm delay just the ticket for Spaniard

GONZALO FERNANDEZCASTANO revealed he was so sure the Barclays Singapore Open would be held up by storms that he booked his plane home for late yesterday — more than a day after the scheduled finish.

And the foresight proved just the ticket for the Spaniard who claimed the US$1 million (RM3.13m) first prize in an early morning playoff that was held up for some 17 hours by torrential downpour and lightning.

"It's been different. I have played this tournament twice before. I knew what we were going to get," FernandezCastano said. "I booked my departure ticket for yesterday

night knowing the tournament was going into yesterday."

'The Flea' nominated for Time's Person-of-the-Year BARCELONA superstar Lionel Messi is one of the nominees for Time magazine's Person-ofthe-Year.

Messi, 24, is among the 32 candidates for the Person-ofthe-Year 2011. The list includes figures such as Steve Jobs, Angela Merkel, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Silvio Berlusconi, Kate Middleton and Nicolas Sarkozy. The final choice will be

announced next month.

The magazine's website claimed Messi managed to create "a unanimous opinion amongst fans throughout the world" that he is "the best player of his generation''.

Although the magazine points out Messi has yet to win the World Cup, it stresses that "he has won everything with his club Barca and is "on the way

to winning his third World Player-of-the-Year award'', whilst reminding its readers that he recently — in a Champions League game against Viktoria Plzen — chalked up his 200th goal with the Catalan giants.

Time also commented that Messi "has taken the most popular sport in the world to a new commercial level of success, as shown by the fact that so many

north American children go to school in a Barça shirt''.

Meanwhile, Messi believes fellow Argentina international midfielder Javier Pastore can excel at Paris St Germain following his summer move from Serie A club Palermo.

The 22-year-old Pastore moved to Ligue 1 in a reported €42 million (RM180m) deal, and life in France has started

brightly for him, whose PSG side lead the championship race.

Messi, now on international duty along with Pastore or El Flaco (The Thin One), hailed the former Palermo man and said moving to France was a good choice.

"Pastore was wanted by a number of big clubs but PSG are building a great team now and Pastore has great qualities.

I am sure he will progress at that club," Messi told Canal Football Club.

"I think playing in France is difficult but this will help him."

Messi and Pastore will have to play bigger roles for struggling Argentina in their tough away match against formidable Colombia in a World Cup South America qualifying match tomorrow (5am).

Mum’s the word Terry gagged by FA over racism allegations

JOHN TERRY was gagged by the Football Association (FA) yesterday to prevent the England captain answering any questions about allegations he racially abused QPR defender Anton Ferdinand in a recent Premier League match. The FA and London’s Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident.

Terry, who has denied the claims, was asked to speak about the matter yesterday at a Press conference ahead of a friendly against Sweden, but the questions were blocked by a member of the FA’s media team.

Terry would only speak about his current mood, saying: “I’m in a great state of mind and focused on training. From my point of view, nothing’s changed at all.”

England skipper Terry was rested from last weekend’s 1-0 friendly win over Spain, although manager Fabio Capello insisted this had nothing to do with the racism allegations.

Terry, due to play against Sweden at Wembley tomorrow, said: “I think the players have showed we’re united no matter what and put in a very good performance against Spain.”

“I don’t feel undroppable.

“If my form’s not good enough the manager (Capello) is big enough to drop anyone, as we’ve seen.

“I’m in a great state of mind and focused on training. From my point of view, nothing’s changed at all.”

Meanwhile, Capello insisted he had no qualms about Terry’s mood ahead of the Sweden match.

“He’s here. He will be with us. He will be the captain,” Capello said.

The Italian added he planned to make wholesale changes to his side for the Sweden match.

“There will be eight new players,” he explained.

“They are two different games but the experience gained for these players is really important in order to improve for the next match against Holland or for the Euros.”

Asked about young Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge’s possible England debut, Capello added: “One hundred per cent he will start on the bench.

“All of the young players

who come from the U-21’s have been monitored for a long time. I spoke to Stuart (Pearce, England U-21 coach) and the players’ coaches and all of these people told me they are really, really good.

“I checked on them too and have been happy with their performances and their personalities and the confidence they play with. It’s difficult to find such players with the confidence they showed against Spain.” — AFP

Germans to send Euro warning with win over Holland

GERMANY are eager to beat rivals Holland in tomorrow’s friendly and send a clear message to all fellow Euro 2012 contenders that they are ready for their first title since 1996, team manager Oliver Bierhoff (pic) has said.

The Germans, who reached next year’s tournament with 10 wins from 10 qualifiers, will have goalkeeper Manuel Neuer back in the squad as well as strikers Miroslav Klose and Marco Reus after they recovered from injury.
