Police to probe electrocution as criminal matter

THE case of 11-year-old Muhammad Naquiddin Mohd Marzuki (pic) who died after being electrocuted by a faulty lamp-post in Taman Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, on March 19, will be reopened to be investigated as a criminal case. Previously classified as sudden death, the case will be investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code and Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990. Head of the prosecution division at the Attorney-General’s Chambers Datuk Tun Majid Tun Hamzah said the A-G’s Chambers had instructed the police to investigate the case for “causing the death of any person by doing a negligent act” and for “tampering or adjusting any installation on equipment that could cause danger to human life”. “Following the findings of the inquiry by the Energy Commission and after going through them thoroughly, we have instructed the police to carry out the probe under Section 304A of the Penal Code and Section 37 of the

The Malay Mail had highlighted the issue extensively since the incident but there had been no firm stand by the authorities until our reporter visited commission officials, including its chief executive officer Ahmad Fauzi Hasan, at his office in August together with Muhammad Naquiddin father, Mohd Marzuki Muda. Ahmad Fauzi had said the contractor responsible for the shoddy maintenance work at the playground had been suspended. He declined to give details of the contractor or the type of suspension, except to say a copy of the findings would be sent to the Subang Jaya Municipal Council. “The details of the report are not for public consumption,” Ahmad Fauzi had said. Told of the latest development yesterday, Mohd Marzuki, 47, said he was relieved “things are finally moving”. “I’m glad something positive is happening. With the police taking up the case, I hope they nab the culprit responsible for my son’s death,” he said. Transparency International Malaysia (TIM) president Datuk Paul Low (pic) said it was only “responsible” for MACC to inform the public on the result of their investigation as a “reasonable time” had passed since the investigation papers were opened. "It has been a year and in the case of the AG's Report, not everything is the result of mismanagement or mistakes as there are definitely some elements of corruption involved," he said. “It’s good they are taking the initiative to investigate.

How electrocution case developed ON March 19, Muhammad Naquiddin Mohd Marzuki, 11, was playing football with his friends at a playground near his home in Taman Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, when he accidentally fell against a lamp-post and was electrocuted. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The Energy Commission immediately began investigating the death. Electricity to the park was cut off as a precaution. It was clarified in April that the source of the power leakage was from a faulty underground cable joint. On May 5, Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) said it had no record of the contractor hired to carry out maintenance there. The boy's father, Mohd Marzuki Muda (pic), lambasted the council for its carelessness. Council officials went back and forth trying to figure out the contractor's identity. Former MPSJ council-

The 2010 report stated that the national debt had risen by 12.3 per cent to over RM407 billion last year and the government owed 53.1 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) at the end of 2010. MCA objects to proposed Income Tax Act changes MCA has objected against the proposal to amend the Income Tax Act which will give the Inland Revenue Board's (IRB) director-general sole discretion over late or incorrect submissions. Currently, taxpayers may submit their case and bring their appeals to the court or a special commissioner. MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the objection was over the proposed inclusion of the new Section 107D and changes to Section 81. "If the amendments are passed, the new Section 107D will enable the director-general to direct taxpayers to make advance payments if he has reasons to believe that taxpayers have not submitted their returns correctly, even if no assessments were issued," he said when commenting on a newspaper report, quoting sources, that amendments

Dr Chua said the party had discussed the matter during its presidential council meeting on Tuesday and MCA representatives in the Cabinet had been asked to raise the matter at the Cabinet meeting. Zaidah Mohd Zaki, 30, said she expected to deliver the day after Deepavali, but her high blood pressure caused by the pregnancy meant labour had to be induced on Tuesday night. She safely gave birth to a 2.47kg baby girl at 4.05am on the morning of the festival of lights. "Deepavali being a public holiday, it was also easier for friends to visit me at the hospital," said Zaidah, an IT executive who has two other children. Don't be exploited by religious extremists, says cleric MUSLIMS in Malaysia must not be driven by religious extremists willing to exploit Islam for their own political agenda, said influential cleric Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin. The former Perlis mufti stressed the public must protect "non-extreme environments" or risk turning the country into a Taliban State. Taliban was an Islamist political group which governed Afghanistan before it was overthrown after the 2001 Sept 11 terrorist attacks in the US. The Taliban government had close links with terrorist group al-Qaeda and was harbouring the group's leaders, including Osama bin Laden. "We are not a Taliban State, although there are effort by some to apply Taliban-style policy in our country. Fewer than 5,000 people turned up at Stadium Melawati for the rally, supported by 3,000 NGOs, aimed to gather a million Muslims against alleged Christian proselytising. "For me, this is a clear message from the majority of Muslims in Malaysia that religious extremism is not their choice," he said. "Murtad (apostasy) is happening because of weakness or loss of 'iman'. Iman is all about faith. We cannot strengthen or restore faith by blaming others. We should ask why they are weak, have they lost their iman? Where is our dakwah (preaching)? Where is zakat (tithe)? Don't accuse others to cover our weakness." Mohd Asri said Muslims must stop blaming others for their own shortcomings. "It's better for us to improve ourselves rather than point our fingers at others. We are in the era of globalisation. Chapter of hope for deprived students Exam failures and troubled youths benefit from Science of Life Studies

SINCE a Science of Life Studies (SOLS) 24/7 chapter was introduced in Malaysia in 2007, thousands of underprivileged students have benefitted from its motivational talks and free courses in English, maths, science of life, basic accountancy, and basic and advanced computer studies. This United Nations-linked non-governmental, non-religious educational organisation was founded in Cambodia in 2000 to provide new hope to less fortunate youths. Besides Malaysia, chapters have been set up in East Timor, Laos, Japan and Singapore, and over the past 11 years, have trained over 75,000 youths. "Most of our students are troubled youths and those who come from poor backgrounds, including those who failed in their studies," said SOLS 24/7 programme coordinator Danuthca Catriona Singh, 27, a former journalist who has been with this NGO since its inception in Malaysia. "Our centres cater to those aged 16 to their late 20s and we have seen many youths,

internship receive a certificate of completion and are welcomed in our SOLS 24/7 centres as teachers and administrators if so inclined. For those who prefer employment elsewhere, we help them achieve that too." Danuthca said the organisation believed that with proper training, all students can be well-prepared for the life challenges ahead. SOLS 24/7 works with other NGOs to recruit students and is part of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees programme. The Malaysian chapter receives funding mainly from Hong Leong Bank Berhad Foundation, Carrefour Sdn Bhd, and the Vijayaratnam Foundation.

"I thought my future was bleak after failing the Form Five exam. Commuters sweat it out in broken down train while driver kept 'mum' over situation STUCK in a stalled and stuffy train with children crying, UVANESHWARAN wondered why the KTM Komuter driver was keeping 'mum' over the unscheduled stop. Passengers had to call customer service themselves close to half-an-hour later to find out the service provider was aware of the technical glitch and dealing with it. UVANESHWARAN's ordeal began when he took a KTM Komuter service last Saturday from the city to return to his Klang home. He boarded the train at the Kuala Lumpur Station at 11.48am and it reached nearby Kuala Lumpur Sentral about

11.50am. "The train, however, broke down between KL Sentral and the Angkasapuri Station." UVANESHWARAN claims there were no announcement from the driver on the matter. "We then contacted the customer service after 20 minutes and was told help was on its way within 15 minutes. "Without ventilation, children began to cry. The driver only opened the windows and doors after passengers started complaining and that was 40 minutes later!" The driver then informed UVANESHWARAN and other passengers another train would be arriving from

KL Sentral to move the faulty coach in five minutes. "But our train was towed to the Angkasapuri Station more than an hour after it had

stalled. We wonder is this the level of service provided by KTMB? "Was the driver given adequate training?"

● A SPOKESPERSON for Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) says due to a technical problem, the train stopped at 12.24pm between KL Sentral and Angkasapuri Station on Oct 22. She says KTMB Komuter services were badly affected. "These incidents were unexpected and as a result it has created service interruptions." The spokesperson says KTMB's procedure involved making an announcement to passengers on board the affected train and at the stations. "During the incident, however, the announcement system was not function-

ing." She says necessary action will be taken to improve the situation from time to time. "In general, we recognise our various shortcomings and we are continuously striving to improve the KTM Komuter service. "We understand efficient service is essential in today’s fast-paced world, especially for our valued customers like you. Again, please accept our sincere apology for the discomfort experienced. " When contacted, UVANESHWARAN says he is unhappy with KTMB's response, claiming it is not the first such incident.

Pestered over payment TAMAYANTY FELLIDURAI is unhappy with the way a credit company is hounding her over a car loan repayment. The 29-year-old communications executive from Kuala Lumpur claims she has been harassed by AEON Credit Service (M) Bhd's agents through no fault of hers. TAMAYANTY says she earlier settled her re-finance issue in June after taking her almost three months to do so. "AEON then instructed me to subscribe for auto-payment at Jaya Jusco in Mid Valley Megamall to enable them to deduct my monthly payments from my Maybank account."

She says the company later called to request payment, claiming the auto-pay would only be activated once she received a confirmation letter. "Although I received the letter in July, they said a processing error had occurred and promised to fix it, but they continued chasing me for payment." TAMAYANTY says AEON asked her to reapply for the auto-payment and someone would deliver her the form on Sept 30, but she refused as she was unhappy with its conduct. "Even so, their agent failed to turn up. Later, I got a call from another agent demanding to know why I had not yet

Federer gets votes in Swiss election Tennis fans around the world have cheered Roger Federer's talents, but he's most celebrated in his native Switzerland, where some backed him in Sunday's election, even though he wasn't on the ballot. In his home village Wollerau, the former world tennis number one got 132 votes to represent the canton of Schwytz in the Swiss senate. A Facebook appeal urged voters to scratch out listed candidates and write in Federer.

An election official based in Schwytz, near Zurich, said write-in votes are permitted under Swiss law and that had the appeal been more successful, Federer could have won a senate seat. Abu Bakar has sentence cut AN Indonesian court cut the jail term of radical Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, an advocate of violent jihad convicted of funding terrorism, from 15 years to nine, a spokesman said yesterday. Bashir is regarded as a spiritual leader of militant Islam in Indonesia and is an outspoken supporter of al-Qaeda-style jihad but the 73year-old has always denied being a terrorist. AS the global population hits seven billion, experts are warning skewed gender ratios could fuel the emergence of volatile "bachelor nations" driven by an aggressive competition for brides. The precise consequences of what French population expert Christophe Guilmoto calls the "alarming demographic masculinisation" of countries such as India and China as the result of sex-selective abortion remain unclear. But many demographers believe the resulting shortage of adult women over the next 50 years will have as deep and pervasive an impact as climate change. Nature provides an unbending biological standard for the sex ratio at birth of 104-106 males to every 100 females. Any significant divergence from that narrow range can only be explained by abnormal factors. In India and Vietnam, the figure is around 112 boys for every

100 girls. In China it is almost 120 to 100 — and in some places higher than 130. And the trend is spreading to regions like the South Caucasus, where Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia all post birth ratios of more than 115 to 100, and further west to Serbia and Bosnia. Demographers say that figure is now more than 160 million -women selected out of existence by the convergence of traditional preferences for sons, declining fertility and, most crucially, the prevalence of cheap prenatal sex-determination technology. Even if the sex ratio at birth returned to normal in India and China within 10 years, Guilmoto says men in both countries would still face a "marriage squeeze" for decades to come. Futuristic take on how clocks tick

Unique theme and judicious action keep perfectly 'In Time' to tell story By Loong Wai Ting waiting@mmail.com.my AS people always say, time is money. But what if each passing moment has all been calculated, and to survive another day, you have to buy yourself some time — no pun intended. Set in the near future, where time has overruled money, its general population has stopped ageing at the age of 25. And in order to stay alive, its citizens must work to purchase themselves time. But when a young man finds he has been given more than a century to live, instead of wasting his years away, he devices a way to fight injustice and restore order before the time keepers catch up with him. While the concept is quite insane by its standard, In Time works 90% of the time, not because of its glittering cast but the cool idea that goes

behind it. There aren't many stories that are developed from such ideas but director Andrew Niccol makes sure everyone has fun being a time keeper. In Time looks just as good inside as it does on the surface. There is an underlying message that "shouts out" the obvious — that "people shouldn't be afraid of the government", that kind of thing. Remember V for Vendetta? There is sufficient action to keep you at the edge of your seat, but the moment the action stops, so does the movie, or at least the audience’s anticipation for the climax. To keep the movie from "dying", Niccol is lucky to have his cast keeping the ball rolling. Action alone is never enough but good acting from a highly watchable cast gets your eyes glued to the screen. Justin Timberlake, who plays Will Salas, seems to be having a lot fun chasing the rich guys for his time lost. Amanda

What a sensation in the XE! ONE look at the HTC Sensation XE’s slim and sleek, black with red accented body and a subtle Beats logo embellishment, and it’s hard not to be impressed with the phone that undoubtedly makes the list of one of the ruling elite of smartphones, outdoing even it’s predecessor in the original Sensation. The fact that it’s the first to incorporate Beats Audio technology, raises it up a notch, though being one from the masses torn between Blackberry and the iOS platform, the general feeing is skepticism at Android devices — but the Sensation XE’s edgier form was still not enough to impress. Yet. Despite it’s abundance in size, the phone doesn’t feel bulky, and in fact, feels thinner than it’s form but offers ample screen space that moves away from the 5:3 800 x 480 display to a whopping 16:9 960 x 540 with it’s 4.3-inch screen. Instead of having the screen set to a bezel, HTC has chosen to have the back cover wrap around the edges, so you still get that seamless look and feel. The whole build and makeup of the Sensation XE is elegance personified, and weighing in at merely 148g and measuring at 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.3mm, it's compact too. Controls remain the standard

home, menu, back and search while nestled in the sides are the volume buttons and MicroUSB port. At the top, we have the power/standby button and the 3.5mm headphone jack. Switching the phone on, the Sensation XE immediately offers a crisp display, with a slightly higher resolution than the average Android. Not generally a fan of Android smartphones, having tested more than a few, the Sensation XE can most definitely make a believer of a doubting Thomas. One could go on about the wonders of the Sensation XE, but essentially it’s still a HTC Sensation with the addition of Beats audio processing, and a few welcomed upgrades. The biggie is in the battery — now a 1730mAh power pack which should help offset the scandalous power consumption that plagued the original Sensation. Of course, this may be swallowed up by another upgrade in the improved processor, which now comes in as a gigantic 1.5GHz dual core. The main star of the phone, however, is the audio feature, offering a dedicated Beats Audio profile, complete with audio manipulation technology. And yes, the phone, priced at RM1,999, comes with a pair of Beats Audio earphones that

would be pricy on their own. The Sensation XE automatically launches the Beats dedicated audio profile upon earphone connection, with the iconic logo appearing on the notification bar that enables easy access for enabling or disabling. The sounds are crisper, and there’s a thumping bass for music lovers who want that kick in their musical fare. Gone are the tinny sounds especially when you’re catching up on a movie on your Sensation XE, as it does lend the experience and ambience of a cinematic experience — at least in the sound department. Having tested the phone for a few weeks now, it is obvious

that it tends to heat up when the processor is put under serious load as the two cores gulp up energy. Still, the Sensation XE is frugal with power while it's idle or not under heavy use. While the camera is identical to the original Sensation, the XE appears to offer a slightly faster loading for the camera applications. So is HTC Sensation XE worth a buy? To be honest, if this was a virgin Android experience for you as it was for this reviewer — it’s a resounding yes. Yau, being a great admirer of Qiu Jin, a female revolutionary heroine during the Qing dynasty who fought for gender equality and attempted to overthrow the corrupted Qing court, did a good job to showcase a different side of Qiu Jin. Played by Huang Yi through the various fight scenes, the actress showed how sharp the warrior could be whenever she was around men in higher positions. In this regard, Yau has done his job well but in other aspects such as development, flow and editing, the director

Whenever the movie tried to be serious, there were intentional moments slotted in to divert the audiences' attention. And whenever there was an important point GIRL POWER: Huang as the revolutionary heroine, Qiu Jin to make, it would throw in yet another unnecessary kung fu fight scene. All these gratuitous intrusions put a stress on the movie. What could have been a straightforward story about a revolutionary heroine got disrupted because the movie irelied on flashbacks to drive

its point across. And whatever that Yau was trying to say through the plot, just didn't get said, but he made up for the shortfall by throwing in more kung fu scenes. But there were certain moments when the characters shone through. Huang's take on Qiu Jin's character was

most notable. Her composed and calm persona made the actress the right person for the job. She emoted convincingly while putting herself through a myriad of physical actions. If not because of the script which hindered character development, Huang could

have been the only convincing actor here. While The Woman Knight of Mirror Lake may sound just like another boring historical movie, it is not. It may not be one of Yau's better-made films, but it still packs a whole deal of entertainment and fun.

Take jellyfish for example, the mysterious and rather odd creature is beautiful when swimming almost in synchrony with its own kind but come anywhere close to it, and you could be dead meat. At Chinese dinners, jellyfish are sometimes served as appetisers, but that’s probably the only top-of-the-food chain encounter you’ll have with this malicious creature. Don’t underestimate this animal as a nebulous and brainless blob because it could be the world’s worst nightmare. 10 THINGS ABOUT THESE AQUATIC CREATURES 1. Jellyfish digest their food very quickly. They wouldn't be able to float if they had to carry a large, undigested meal around for long periods. 2. Jellyfish stings can be painful to humans and are sometimes lethal. But jellyfish don't deliberately attack humans. Most stings occur when people accidentally touch a jellyfish, but if the sting is from a dangerous species, it can be deadly. The Australian box-like Sea Wasp is the most toxic to humans. Jellyfish has been around for more than 650 million years which means they outdate even dinosaurs and sharks. 3. The world’s largest known jellyfish can reach a diameter of 8ft (2.5m) and its tentacles can grow to half the length of a football field. 4. There are many types of jellyfish in the ocean. These almost transparent creatures pulse along on ocean currents. Inside their bell-shaped body is an opening that is its mouth. They eat and discard waste from this opening. As jellyfish squirt water from their mouths they are propelled forward. Tentacles hang down from the smooth bag-like body and sting their prey.

The Lion's Mane Jellyfish found in the north Atlantic, has a bell which can reach 6ft (2m) in diameter with tentacles as long as 100ft (33m). The poisonous Portuguese man-of-war is found floating on the surface of tropical ocean water and its sting is said to be as toxic as a cobra's bite. 6. Sea turtles relish the taste of jellyfish. Some jellyfish are clear and can look like plastic bags in the water. Others are in vibrant colors such as pink, yellow, blue, and purple, and are often luminescent. 7. The Chinese have fished jellyfish for 1,700 years. They are considered a delicacy and are used in Chinese medicine. 8. Jellyfish are classified as Phylum Coelenterata, a classification that also includes hydras, polyps, sea anemones and so on. 9. Jellyfish are invertebrates and don't have a backbone. 10. Envoy assures safety for Malaysians MALAYSIAN Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin has assured the safety of the Malaysian contingent to the 26th Sea Games in Indonesia next month. He said that in addition to the assurance given by Indonesian authorities on the safety of all contingents to the Games, the Malaysian embassy would also take steps to ensure members of the Malaysian contingent would feel safe and are able to concentrate on their events. "The same goes to the Malaysian supporters," he said. He was speaking to 25

members of the Sportswriters Association Malaysia (SAM) who are currently on a threeday pre-Sea Games tour of the Indonesian capital. The visit, led by SAM president Ahmad Khawari Isa, is to allow association members to get an overview of the host's preparation for the Games, from Nov 11-22, at two main venues — Jakarta and Palembang. Syed Munshe said that although there were demonstrations by Indonesians in front of the Malaysian embassy, they were isolated cases. He said the demonstrations took place only in front of the embassy and that the dem-

onstrators had not disturbed Malaysians in other places. The latest demonstration was on Oct 13 when a group of demonstrators, who called themselves "Laskar Merah Putih'', gathered in front of the embassy purportedly to protest land grabs by Malaysia in West Kalimantan. Both countries had denied the allegation. Severe punishment should be handed out, say umpires MATCH officials are up in arms over players getting away with light sentences for what they regard as serious offences — some are afraid there may come a day there will not be any umpires to officiate. A letter from an anonymous umpire, copied to Mailsport, was sent to the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) Technical C o m m i t t e e a n d Um p i r i n g Committee stating the umpires' disappointment on the lack of urgency in deliberating disciplinary issues. The letter, signed off by the umpires, states they are disappointed with the constant criticism of the umpiring and that umpires are often the first to be blamed. "Umpires are always on the receiving end of all the faults that take place on the pitch. Never once have team officials and/or players been blamed just because they spend hundreds of thousands of

The standard operating procedure when any offence is committed is that the matter will be deliberated by the technical committee. Should they find the offence serious, the matter will be sent to the Disciplinary Board (DB). A senior umpire, who did not want to be named, also questioned the whole process and hopes the umpiring committee will play an active role in their cause. "The whole procedure of disciplinary action is vague. There should be clear guidelines on how to deal with different circumstances," he said. The letter listed four cases in which players were either let off

lightly or disciplinary action was delayed. Umpires believe all this abuse towards them will only stop if the technical committee and the DB mete out immediate and appropriate punishment to players and officials. "Some of us have been umpiring for more than 15 years. We see the same players and officials year in and year out. We have been swallowing a lot of rubbish. We have new, younger umpires coming up the ranks and they too are facing the same problems. "How do you expect the country to produce more umpires when the rot is still there?" questioned the letter. Meanwhile, Umpiring Committee chairman Lt Kol B. Muthukumar acknowledged receiving the letter but refused to comment. "I can't say anything because the committee have not met to discuss the matter," he said.

The following are extracts from the letter 1. Razak Cup 2010 – Kuantan — National player Faisal Saari pulled umpire Ravinderpal Singh's T-shirt for awarding a penalty corner against his team. Faisal was shown a yellow card for the act and then a red for uttering foul words to the umpire. This player was referred to the DB, without the umpire concerned being called. He apparently apologised and got off without any punishment. Being the "blue-eyed-boy" of the hockey team, officials felt they needed his services more. He went on playing for the country and received the same treatment from international umpires for similar behaviour but our officials kept a blind eye. This matter was also brought up in the MHF council meeting and highlighted to the president. The DB head said since there was no physical abuse they could not take any action on the player. Do they expect the umpire to be hit and only then action will be taken? The president asked the umpiring committee to write to the DB to reopen the case but sadly this was never done. 2. MHL Premier League 2010 — Nur Insafi Penang's Keevan Raj approached and pushed umpire K. Lingam when the umpire awarded a penalty corner to Maybank. He said that the umpire had been bought over by Maybank. Lingam gave Keevan a green card, and the player repeatedly abused him with foul language and spat on him. The umpire immediately showed him the red card. He too followed proper procedures by making a report and waited for the outcome. Action was only taken after two to three weeks whereby Keevan was subsequently

Norfadzeli had to be calmed down by his fellow teammates. Once again, a report was made and submitted to MHF but action was not taken immediately. The player played two more matches and in one of those matches, he again approached umpire R. Anbanathan after the match and abused him. Another report was made against this player. This time he was suspended for two matches. 4. MHL Premier League 2011 — Sapura captain S. Kuhan was red carded by umpire Anbanathan for using foul language. After the match, said player approached the technical bench and continued to hurl more foul words on the umpire in the presence of MHF officials and the technical officer of the match. Having received a red card, the player was automatically suspended for one match pending the DB hearing. What baffles us is that, the technical committee did not meet to take further action and/or refer him to the DB. The technical committee, in a Press statement, said that the matter could not be deliberated because a certain person was not available and therefore it would be held on a later date. Kuhan was then given an additional one-match ban. For all the abuse and outburst, Kuhan received only a two-match ban. The Armed Forces player, who did not receive any card but abused the umpires after the match, was also suspended for two matches."

Balotelli was forced to escape a blaze at his rented house after a blaze started when fireworks were let off in the bathroom at 1am on Saturday morning. Fifa open cases against 10 more Caribbean ofﬁcials WORLD football's govering body Fifa opened cases against another 10 officials from the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) yesterday related to the now infamous meeting held in Port of Spain, Trinidad in May. In a statement, Fifa said they were investigating the 10 regarding possible violations of the Fifa Code of Ethics following the meeting which led to the downfall of former Concacaf chief Jack Warner and his Asian Football Confederation counterpart Mohamed Bin Hammam.

They both left their positions and Fifa's executive committee following bribery allegations stemming from the May meeting. They were accused of attempt ing to br ib e CFU officials to vote for Hammam in June's presidential election against Sepp Blatter. Officials get together to stand up against abuse UMPIRES for the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) are tired of being pushed around. In a letter to the MHF, disappointment was conveyed at the delayed disciplinary action taken on players found to have abused them. They also believe that some of these players have been getting away with murder as the punishment handed out did not conform to the severity of the offences.

The letter also questions the standard operating procedure involved when meting out punishment. Many umpires believe the abuse will only stop when immediate disciplinary action is taken and called for a more transparent guideline when dealing with different circumstances — before somebody gets hurt. 
