Suggested Activities P2

Spread cardboard stars numbered 1 ´ to 30 over an area. Call out 5 numbers within 30 and get the children to bring the correct stars to you. Then, have them state the smallest and biggest numbers. (Suggest using Kids’ Time application to view 3D animations.)

P3

Number some paper cups 1 ´to 35. Mix up the cups. Then, ask the children to arrange the cups in the correct order.

P4

Call out a number from 36 to 40. Let the children count and put that number of toy blocks into a plastic bin.

P5

Label 40 paper bowls 1 ´ to 40. Then, mix up the bowls and have the children arrange them in the correct order. (Suggest using Kids’ Voice application to encourage children to record and listen to their voice for better pronunciation.)

P 6-7

Let the children count and add up the items on 2 trays (e.g. 12´ spoons + 19´ spoons = 3 1 ´ spoons).

P 8-9

Let the children decorate cardboard pizzas with a number of ‘toppings’ (e.g. 35 cut-outs of mushrooms). Then, have them remove a number (e.g. 16) ´ and count the toppings left on the pizza (35 – 16´ = 19). ´

P 10´ 1 ´1 ´ Number 50 paper cups 1 ´ to 50. Have the children cover fifty toy blocks with the paper cups in the correct order. Then, say a number (e.g. “47”). Let the children lift up the correct cup and name the colour of the toy block underneath.

P 12´

Hand out number cards and dot cards for the same numbers (within 1 ´ to 50). Let each child find another child with a number/dot card that matches his/hers. Repeat with other sets of numbers within 50.

P 13´

Let the children stack 10´ plastic rings over a cone. Get them to repeat the activity, counting in tens as they go.

P 14´

Let the children add the number of jigsaw puzzle pieces in two envelopes. Practise adding within 50 and writing the addition sentences on the board (e.g. 24 + 10´ = 34).

P 15´

Let the children drop a number of cotton balls into a paper cup (e.g. 48). Then, let them take out some (e.g. 12) ´ Ask, “How many is 48 minus 12?” ´ and let them count the number of cotton balls still left in the cup (48 – 12´ = 36).

Suggested Activities P 16´

Have the children add the number of stamps/stickers on 3 envelopes/postcards. Guide them in writing the addition sentences (e.g. 2 + 2 + 3 = 7).

P 17´

Get a child to remove a number of flowers from a small bunch. Count the remaining flowers (e.g. 7 – 3 = 4). Then, have another child remove more flowers from the bunch, and count the flowers left after that (e.g. 4 – 2 = 2). Now, guide the children in writing the subtraction sentence: 7 – 3 – 2 = 2.

P 18´ 19´

Show the children how to fold craft paper into one half, then into one quarter. Now, have them cover one half/quarter of a common shape (e.g. circle, square) with ‘half’/‘quarter’ pieces. Then, let the children work together to make repeating patterns with the halves and quarters.

P 20-2 1 ´ Line up 10´ plastic bottles. Let the children fill each with 10´ large paper clips. Count in tens and label the bottles 10, ´ 20, 30, 40, 50, and so on until 100. ´ P 22-26 Make a simple price chart for things to buy; role-play shopping for groceries with 1,´ 2, 5, 10, ´ 20, 50 and 100 ´ baht cut outs.

P 27

Make a storybook about the days of the week. Get the children to talk about the things they do on different days and paste pictures of these activities on the correct pages. (Suggest using Kids’ Voice application to encourage children to record and listen to their voice for better pronunciation.)

P 28

Name the different months of the year on a calendar. Look at some of the special days and celebrations marked on it (e.g. New Year’s Day, Songkran Day).

P 29-30 Role-play situations involving addition using simple props, such as toy pots or pans (e.g. “Mei and Kim are washing 8 pots in the sink. Then, John brings 3 more pots. How many pots do they wash altogether?”). Let the children count and complete the addition sentence (e.g. 8 + 3 = 1 ´1).´

P 3 1-32 ´

Stick 18´ flower cut-outs (each taped to a straw) into some plasticine in a plastic flowerpot. Have the children subtract by taking out some and counting the number of flowers left (e.g. say, “There are 18´ flowers in the pot. Then, 12´ flowers fall off. How many flowers are there now?”).
